Hi everyone, there's an awkward jump cut now that remove a very important part out of the music section of this retrospective. The section covering Takashi Niigaki (The Real Composer of Warlords) was removed for copywrite. I'm not happy about it but I was asked to remove it. If you enjoyed this video check out my pal Beggy. She helped me with the Cultural and historical stuff near the end. She also makes videos and has a great voice! kzbin.info

It's interesting because back then it was used because of hardware limitations. But nowadays it would be very expensive to make due to how much resolution an image can handle; you'd have to hire an artist specialized in detailed environments. In addition you would also need a very good director in order to make sure that the camera placement makes sense.

Reason why I think Nobunaga is portrayed as a villain in stories is how he and by extension his successor Hideyoshi not only drove Japan to unite but seek territorial expansion in other people's lands and its something that pretty much forms the darkest chapters in Japan's history.

so awesome to see you break down and dive into the Onimusha series! it’s sooo slept on and is overdue for a much deserved revival. Onimusha has a special place in my heart and i want the rest of the world to experience this masterpiece just as a i did! Onimusha 2 is probably my favorite installment of the whole series but they’re all so much fun. i can’t wait for you to cover the rest of the series :)

Awesome work Suz! Onimusha was a formative series for me growing up and I really felt the love and care in this vid. While Sekiro and Nioh have been great games in a similar vein, nothing quite beats the structure of exploration and leveling in Onimusha games, and yes the horror absolutely elevates it all. Capcom fans absolutely are always left waiting on its mountain of unutilized IP to finally be resurrected, but I personally think the Oni series deserves one more shot the most. Cheers!

THANK YOU so much for making this video, Suzi! 😄👏💯 Great review and respective as always, perfect down to the last detail and I liked your “dramatic opening” during the first 10 minutes. I’ve been waiting for this review for a couple of years and I was so happy to watch it. Great kudos for granting additional facts about Onimusha’s lore and Japanese history and mythology overall. I only knew half of the facts you gave us all. Onimusha is criminally underrated at this point, I especially love Warlords and Demon Sieges, just everything about those two games I love. Music, gameplay, characters, and whatnot. Though I never got to play Genma Onimusha and honestly at this point, I’m afraid to do so. Plus I never had an Xbox growing up. I’m a Playstation gamer at heart. Plus I never played Dawn of Dreams sadly, I’ve been thinking of trying it out or watching a bit of gameplay of it but I don’t know. To this day, I get so bitter, angry and crushed knowing that Kaede got the short end of the stick cuz she’s my favorite character in the series. When a video like this is in an hour-long, you know it’s gonna be good. Honestly disappointed about the composer and I miss the old soundtrack even if the new one grew on me after a bit. That damn water puzzle just pissed me off so much that I never finished the game until I was 13. Hell I never even knew the game had sequels til I was 13 and wanted to play them. The Netflix series is alright but it has very little connection to the series beyond the Oni gauntlet in my honest opinion but it’s decent and the animation is solid. Gorgeous thumbnail along with the well… “TV set” you got where it’s like a traditional Japanese room by the way. 👌🏼 Lastly, nice little setup about being stuck in a TV for as a skit. I miss this series so much and I hope to God this game will get the Remake treatment Resident Evil’s been getting. Everyone wants a Dino Crisis remake but I just want an Onimusha remake. One where Kaede gets a happily ever after too. Hope you’ll be cover the other games in the future and as always, keep up the good work. Two fun facts about Onimusha: Number 1: Did you know as a launch title for the Playstation 2, it was the very first PS2 game to sell one million copies in Japan alone? That’s how awesome the game was. Number 2: The gameplay and upgrading system for this game inspired the developers of God of War to make that series since in their words. “They wanted to make that but with Greek Mythology.” So cool that Onimusha inspired God of War of all franchises. 🤩

Great video. Brought back so many memories of playing the game in ps2 era. I played these games out of order, starting with onimusha 2. After beating that game I decided to play Onimusha. That puzzle gauntlet part totally threw me off because there wasn’t anything like that in onimusha 2.

Onimusha was the first major game franchise I fell in love with. It's part of a big reason why I got so into the sengoku Era and its many historical figures. Onimusha had fueled my creative fire as well. It's a series I want to stream and talk about in my own way becuase there's a lot I want to say. Fantastic video as always! Edit: also, I want to add a point to the oda nobunaga legend and *why* he's referred to as the "Dai Rokuten Mao" or Demon King of the 6th realm. The reason why he was seen as demonic, in tandem with everything said in the video, is the burning of mount hiei. Nobunaga hated warrior monks, they were used as extra cavalry and backup in battles with many opponents and betrayers (in the form of the azai clan that nobunaga had married off his sister to) as well as not following the rules of the daimyo and clans (the monks could have their own religious buildings and business in other domains and daimyo could do little to change that). They would often be swayed not by loyalty to a clan, but by coin. You pay them, they fight for you. These monks were a thorn in the oda's side through out his dealings with other daimyo and opposition. After multiple battles and experiences with said monks, nobunaga looked to the close by mount hiei and decided to take men, and set aflame to the warrior monks home. Women and children, men young and old, everyone was slaughtered as they ran. Survivors and first hand accountants claim how oda had a cold expression, and thus the name was thrust upon nobunaga, a Demon on earth, the Demon king was born.
