Always a pleasure to see more people talking about Wiimmfi, and a cool video about the history of it all, too! Wii users without a Homebrew Channel or SD card can also get onto Wiimmfi simply by editing their existing Wii Internet connection and setting the primary DNS to 95.217.77.151, then attempt to view the license agreement for the Wii Shop and WiiConnect24 (to do this, go to Wii Options -> Wii Settings -> Page 2 -> Internet -> 3rd button (Agreement/Contact or User Agreements) -> Yes -> Next) and then wait 2 minutes without pressing anything. The Nintendo DS also has Wiimmfi that can be accessed via a DNS trick as well, but you need a WEP/unsecured connection for the DS which makes this slightly less practical. Nevertheless, if you have one, set primary DNS to 164.132.44.106 and then just try to play online. Due to a bug in Nintendo's handling of https on DS, no game patching is required. I think we'd all much rather have the original Nintendo WFC still alive for the sheer size of the player base, but Wiimmfi has its perks too, cheaters in games are actively banned if reported, the service is a bit faster overall at matchmaking, and certainly in Mario Kart Wii's case, some game-breaking glitches have been patched (such as the Grumble Volcano lap skipping shortcut). Mario Kart Wii also shows no signs whatsoever of dying off, actually slowly increasing in popularity over time rather than decreasing. I wonder how long it'll go?

I like the single player, the controls, and many of the tracks. However my experience with LOCAL multiplayer felt pretty broken. It always seemed like the bots would get unfair and overpowered power ups too often. Also I found that there were too many power ups that disrupted the flow of the game. And to state this again, the bots would get these and use these power ups so often that no matter how brilliantly you would drive power ups being used against you could cause you to get taken out every few p seconds making the finish feel random. Even if the other human player were in last they may not get the OP power ups making it difficult to move up. What's weird is that I didn't experience any of this in single player. The bots didn't get the same level of game breaking power ups and it felt like your driving actually made a difference in your finish.

Thanks for the tip on this service. I got inspired by your previous video about the Wii, now I suddenly own 4 of them... (Two black, one red and one white.) The Wii is such a great system for emulating retro games. Pair it with a classic (pro) controller and you're golden. The Wii is under appreciated and sells used for dirt cheap these days. Most people are not aware of its potential with homebrew. Why pay two or three times more for a classic NES/SNES when you can hack the Wii so easily, and have access to a huge library of games: NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii and so much more. Keep the great videos coming. I really like your channel. Cheers!

You can also use ISOs. You just need to download the image patcher (should be somewhere on wii.guide/wiimmfi as well) and patch the image file. You can also play AC and visit other towns.

Why are there never any towns to visit? I invited some people but never see any of them online. How do I know if they got my invite? I patched Animal crossings and it connects to wiimmfi server but there are never any towns to visit on the list necause the list is empty.

Do a video on riiconnect24. Seperate from wiimmfi, riiconnect24 is the homebrew service that brings back the wii news channel, weather channel, wii message board/console friendcodes, and other game functions (like sending brawl content) to friends via wii message board. Also, riiconnect24's DNS/IP re-routes to wiimmfi's site IP for the actual online gameplay, so it's pretty much an extension of this

Do a video on how to install The Weather Channel on the Wii in 2019

With no video help, it took me less than 5 minutes to get the Weather Channel, the News Channel, the Everybody Votes Channel, the Internet Channel, and Wii Mail up and running again. Go to github.com/RiiConnect24/IOS-Patcher/releases and down load the batch file, put your SD card from you Wii into your PC, and run the batch file. You will answer a few questions, then the batch file will put every file you need onto your SD card. Put the SD back into your Will, load up the Homebrew channel, then load Whatever wad manager you use and navigate to the new WAD folder and install all the wads from the batch file. Then navigate to your Apps folder and install the Will Mail IOS patcher. Then exit back to the main Wii menu. And theres one more step to take before any of this will work.......You have to change your Wii`s DNS to the DNS of RiiConnect24 settings which only takes about 30 seconds. Go to wii.guide/riiconnect24.html and scroll down a little and you will see a step by step guide with pictures to show you what to do.

no, cod and bf on ps3 is full of hackers. the pc versions of cod and battlefield (the older ones) have dedicated server browsers and do not rely on playstation matchmaking servers. your ps3 servers will eventually shut down, but the pc servers will remain until the host shuts the server down.

COD fanbase on xb360/ps3 is very huge, twice larger than PC. Last time i was on cod bo1 stream (2017-2018), it had 100k players active. I doubt they will just shut ps3 so easily.

Really a great video. I remember back in 2007 when I would go out of town I would lock my Wii away so it would not get stolen if the house was broken into! Those were hard to find back then! Because many other developers especially the ones of antiquated Windows games didn't acknowledge that GameSpy was closing, IGN never needed permission from the game developers who used GameSpy to close down many people don't realize that

Thank you for posting this video & the links to stuff. It inspired me to dust off my Wii & perform these additional mods that I wasn't aware of to restore most it's lost functionality. I know things aren't 100% perfect, but it's better than nothing.

The Gamespy multiplayer gaming holocaust was the worst thing to ever happen to gaming, imo. Overnight about a thousand titles multiplayer across PC and multiple consoles, such as Wii and DS, all went dark. The saddest bit is the servers were sold to GLU, a shitty mobile skinner-box company that makes schlock like the Kardashian game. Why would they buy the servers and Gamespy just to completely destroy it a few short years later? Like buying the library of Alexandria just to burn it.

I agree, I'm pretty sure if it wasn't for that Nintendo probably wouldn't have closed wiiconnect24, although I do still think they would have closed the shop channel because having a digital distribution system without online accounts for tracking purchases is a liability hazard, especially for refunds and chargebacks

Fascinating as usual! I was expecting this to be about the usual suspect: tunneling tools to exploit the system’s LAN play functionality, I had no idea somebody actually went and reverse engineered the Nintendo WFC to implement their own version of it. Retro gaming is going to be interesting going forward

AltWFC is the closest you can come, because it's open source and self-hostable. I know people hate this answer because it is a competitor to Wiimmfi but if you want the equivalent xlink Kai for Nintendo WFC that's as close as you're going to come
