My dad was a reasonably quiet man. He chatted with people about subjects that were interesting to him, but was otherwise quiet. After he died (too young) people often said of him, "Louie didn't say a lot, but when he did, it was always wise and worth hearing." That's a great legacy. I miss him. I want to be more like him in that way.

Yes kindness and compassion.... it is soooo hard to find in people. I am kind and compassionate but not many people are drawn to me they mistake my kindness for a weakness and it is horrible. I speak my mind, I stand for what I believe in, but my heart is kind and I feel love for people. I don’t get it other than to accept that most people are harsh and hard.

I have found this to be true for myself. I have been absolutely betrayed by so called friends too many times to count! It's as if they could find loyal people everyday! Almost like a nasty child screwing a good parent! They feel you're always around.!Take advantage? OMG!! That is when they're not stealing from you or stabbing you in the back! Take out the r in FRIENDS and what do you have?

1. Be scarce don't make yourself too available don't always want to be s.een don't always be seen with group 2. Be quiet Don't give opinions too freely your opinions are valuable don't go giving them out for free but when you have an opinion be thoughtful about it 3. Work Hard don't let other person have to pick up slack; be somebody to do your work competently 4. Be mysterious showyour gifts when you rise to the occasion but don't try to "talk teach " people acting like you know more than them 5. Be kind

That is true but just make sure you keep being you and kind this world needs that from you! I have realized that it actually pisses people off when they see you are happy, or if your kind to people. They are so miserable themselves they want to bring you down to their level! That is just sick in my opinion. I have been very depressed before, so sad and miserable... But during that time I know how that feels to feel so bad, why I'm the world would I want any one else to feel the same, it makes no since to me. If anything I was nicer just because I know how it feels. You are definitely doing the right thing, their actions show everything you need to know about them-it's not you. You don't want people like that to be your friend anyways.

Yes, it's true that people who are constantly talking, giving their opinion on everything are not taken as seriously. Even if the information they're giving is valuable, it's viewed as much less valuable when they're always giving it out. When you think about people you know that are like this, you understand it completely.

My notes for this episode. 1. Don't be too available. 2. Zip it. Your words and thoughts are valuable 🎉 don't just give them away. (DAN is a flipping genius) 3. Work hard. Nobody wants to do extra because you are a slacker. Get it together but I'm just talking to myself here. 4. Be mysterious but not in a creepy way. 😂 Use your talents unexpectedly. Show don't tell. Serve. 5. BE kind. 😊❤😊 Show love. Smile. Randomly hug people...no that's my advice, not Dans. Big hugs!!! Remember... Kindness=Desirable And everyone wants to be desirable! I ❤️ Dan.

What a fantastic topic. I always enjoy hearing input on this. Sometimes even simple things help a lot. Be yourself, take time to actually listen. Learn the names of people you work with. Build up others and don't blast out negativity. Own your mistakes and see to it that you resolve them and learn from it. One thing I've really really learned at my job now, don't kill yourself from too much overtime, sleep is such a big deal. Making sure you are rested will dramatically help you to think clearly and make better choices than when you're tired.

I just started a new job (barmaid) and in the beginning everyone was new so everyone was asking each other about each other so it was cool. Ive been here a month now and I haven't been able to connect with anyone. I feel like I'm already doing what you're suggesting but no results. I'm friendly, helpful, quiet, I'm trying to be confident, I ask people about themselves (since that's what they know most about) but nothing. I compliment them regularly on their clothes or hair or something, but no one ever compliments me. I don't need the compliments, but I've noticed they're all super positive with each other but not to me. No one seems to be striking up a conversation with me, but when I strike one up I get 1 answer and that's it. No follow up or conversation. I've also got one co-worker who is super condescending to me at work but not out of work. It makes working with her very stressful. I'm good at my job, I managed the last place I worked at (which I haven't told them because I don't want to sound like I think I'm superior) I know what I'm doing. I'm learning new things here and this girl knows them already and she answers my questions like they should be obvious to me, so now whenever I do anything, I'm doubting myself. I've tried everything I can think of. What do I do?

Hi Dan - I love your vids and find them really helpful, I just subscribed. I’d like to ask how one should handle “delicate” situations, such as when you go out to dinner with new friends or acquaintances and everybody drinks except you, and then the bill comes and someone says, “Should we just split it? Is that okay with everyone?” I find it very difficult to be the douche who says “Um no, that’s not okay with me”, or even “well I didn’t have any drinks so I’ll just put in a few bucks less than you”. It always makes me feel petty so I don’t ever say anything, but then I feel upset about it later because I didn’t speak up lol. Is there a good way for a non-confrontational person to address this without having to take up drinking?! 😉

Hi, I'm not Dan but I wanted to tell you what happened once I went out with a big group. I noticed one girl was not drinking but everyone else was. At the end of the night when the waiter came over with the check I noticed he gave her a separate check and one for all who were drinking. Everyone who drank split the check. I had a beer and had to pay over $20 but the girl that was not drinking paid her own bill. She must have discreetly asked for a separate bill for herself. When she got her check she just smiled and handed in her credit card. Everyone else was still trying to figure out how much they had to pay.

Victoria, you tried, and that's all you can do. You don't want to get fired for going the extra mile, although most bosses would be appreciative of such a thing. It's funny who gets away with slacking and who doesn't. I won't age discriminate because I have seen 1 young person taking duties seriously while another young person is not. Totally agree, LNK. In no way am I advocating that people at work should be your "friends." However--some people find that if they are actively disliked, their work is sabotaged. There is a certain level of "like" that is healthy in the workplace, so that people are comfortable working together. It's all about the work :)

Now, no one wants to face or admit to or even fix errors or failures to deliver good care. Now they want me to keep quiet. From top down, telling me to not notice. To be PC. I can’t do it. It’s to undo what I am and what I stand for. It’s about looking good on paper blaming patients for being non compliant. I’m struggling.

Hi great video! I really loved it. I loved how you said to be a hard worker, competent, scarce, and most importantly, kind. But I was confused what you meant about people not working hard driving Nissans, Toyota’s or Honda’s and wearing black, navy or gray? I don’t understand that? A lot of suits are black or navy? I know really hard workers who drive Hondas, for example? I found the comment to be a little hurtful, unless it was a joke? Thanks!

Some humor there, GG. I was referring to one of my personality-type videos. Having said that, please know that I drive a Honda and wear whatever color suits my mood. And my favorite go-to shirt is black; my favorite suit is black; and . . . need I go on?

@@TheWizardOfWords Thank you Dan! I’m just revising my comment here. I didn’t know the reference that you were referring to in another one of your videos. Thanks for clarifying that. I will have to see if I can find the video. Thanks for posting the examples of what you personally drive and like to wear as well. You don’t have to go on, I just wasn’t sure of the initial reference so I thought that you were stereotyping people who drove or wore certain things. Thanks for telling me that that’s not what you meant. God bless you! 🙏

The advice in this video is oversimplified. I learned that you cannot make people like you. People are not going to like you just because you work hard. Sometimes when you work hard, employers push you even harder now. Then coworkers are to going to hate your guts because they have to harder now. Some jobs that I had, I worked hard for nothing. The employer still found a way and reason to get rid of me. I learned that people in general are lazy. They do not like working. Most of my coworkers were lazy bastards. Now about being nice. Being kind and nice does not make people like you. Being nice just makes life more pleasing, avoids conflicts, and helps make people get along with each other. People getting along with each other depends upon mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation. You can throw in good manners, courtesy, and being considerate. Those things must exist or else you will not get along. Notice that I said 'get along' and not 'people are going to like you', 'people are going to want to be with you' or 'somebody will want to marry you.' There were many times in my past, I did huge favors for people, gave them gifts for certain occasions, and extended every possible courtesy and they still did not think of me as a friend. They did not reciprocate. They were not there for me in my darkest moments. They were not even that nice to me. That's the thanks I get? That means all my good actions got me absolutely nowhere. I saw a case on Judge Judy that a lot of people can learn a lesson from. It was a case of a guy who had a house for rent. He rented the house to this woman. He liked her, so he gave her cheap rent and bought her two big-screen TVs for her to enjoy while living there. He started hitting on her and she rebuffed him. Then she found a boyfriend and the boyfriend moved in with her. That made the landlord very angry. Now, he jacked up the rent. Soon afterwards, she moved out and took the two TVs with her. He was suing her because the TVs were not gifts. They were just there for her to enjoy while living there. Look what happened. He gave her cheap and two big-screen TVs and she still was not interested in him. I do not believe in love. I believe all relationships are simply personal investments. I think everybody should read the book, How To Win Friends And Influence People by Dale Carnegie. There is a lot of valuable information in there about human nature. Unfortunately, life is not like those children's fairy tales or those stupid Hollywood sitcoms. Life is cruel to a lot of people and a lot of people have to learn to live with life's disappointments. The more I get to know people, the more I come to the realization that being alone is not so bad after all.

It's living in the moment. Finding out what they actually need not want! Most importantly listen and look for patterns. Don't do shit to always release tension between you another. It escalates a situation and it's normal to feel negative from time to time. Stress can be healthy. It's not always being right but doing the right thing.

A slacker is not someone who tries and sometimes comes up short. A slacker is someone who does not try, and who is lazy. A slacker CHOOSES not to carry his/her weight. It is more about effort than about attitude. Having said that, if you are NOT competent at your job, despite trying, you are perhaps in the wrong field and should consider a change.

OneironauticalOne I find listening to the Chiefs full daily activities and full speeches, he is quite kind and funny. The White House --on you tube basically shows his activities of the day. He is not a polished communicator, but is gets things done and a lot of people that actually know him, like him. Again, listening to his full activities, instead of the clips on mainstream media, may change your opinion of him. He has a good sense of humor. He is not perfect. But he is our president and deserves respect.

Don't get me wrong he knows how to work a crowd. However there is a difference between inspiring people and working them into a fervor. He constantly speaks purposefully with disgust inducing triggers like "swamp, coward, rapists, murderers". He uses this and many other tactics to make his base act on emotion rather than logic. This is a common tactic of dictators and other fascist governments to bolster fear and action. Even if we make it out of his presidency without World War 3, I despise his rhetoric.

Dan, a couple of things. Love your videos and have learned a lot however I have to point out a few disturbing things. First of all, you say that you are not political, yet you bring up world leaders and clearly have a liberal slant in your opinions that are not necessarily shared. If the opposite of strength is love, then our current leader who you are clearly referring to has been strong enough to withstand lies, cheating and slander and still is the voice of unborn babies and the American people. No matter what is thrown at him, he comes back swinging in defense of his mission. Just look at the unemployment rate. Look at the lines and any Trump rally that has ever been held as people wrap around the block and stadiums are packed to the rafters. Secondly, I think you should save the word crucifixion for someone who’s actually been crucified, on a cross. None of the people in your audience have been anything close to crucified and, out of respect, that word should be reserved for those who have suffered crucifixion.
@TheWizardOfWords
@TheWizardOfWords 5 жыл бұрын
Jamie, the fact that I am not political does not mean I won't comment on public individuals whose communication and personal style I view as destructive and divisive. The fact that I am not political means simply that I don't care what party such people represent. "Party" is irrelevant to me, but "people" are relevant. Reprehensible is reprehensible, and I don't alter my presentations based on whether or not my views will be popular or will either win or lose subscribers. In my work I make no attempt to walk down the middle of the road. There are enough people in this world back-peddling and equivocating to gain popularity, and I don't want to walk with them. As I've stated before, Jamie, I am neither political nor religious (defined as being a member of a particular religion). This is not to say I don't espouse spirituality; I do. As to crucifixion, it is a word that immediately evokes suffering and I use it for its power, not for its religious implications. If you can come up with a more powerful word, I'll consider using it going forward. I hope I've answered your questions, Jamie, if not your concerns. Dan

Thanks for your response:) your awesome overall body of work is certainly worth a few cringy comments and certainly pretty common place considering the media (and Hollywood) has a big voice, despite being in the minority compared with American citizens who chose this man to be our leader in the first place, just as he is, and continue to support him to this day. Thanks for all your do😁
