This is a great video. I am about to make outdoor box cushions for my patio and I was debating on whether to do piping or not but you’ve made it look pretty easy. Is there a reason why you didn’t cut your piping on the bias (45°) for a stretch and better wear?
@rogerpepin90508 ай бұрын
Same concern i have. Why no bias cut?

You only showed how to stitch one side of the corded panels and you don't show how to line up the second one so they match.

Next time try cutting the piping fabric a bit wider and on a bias for a neater appearance and smoother corners.:)

Do I need to used the wrapping around the cushion for my patio set that may get wet but not soaked? The sofa and chairs are in a screened porch and somewhat protected by rain. I plan to make a boxed cover. With zippers but like the Velcro idea! Do I need to make/sew on some piping?
@onlinefabricstore3 жыл бұрын
You don't need to! I would recommend using an outdoor foam (www.onlinefabricstore.com/product-group-foam-and-padding.aspx?characteristic=outdoor) because even though it will not get soaked by the rain you do want to protect it against mildew. Also, the piping it totally personal preference, you do not have to include it!

Great tutorial. I wouldn't have attempted to do this on my own but after watching your video, I think I can. I have already purchased batting. Can I use that instead of the dacron fabric, or are they one and the same?
@onlinefabricstore2 жыл бұрын
You got this! You can use batting. It is a little trickier to work with than dacron but by that I mean that you will just need a little extra finessing to get it to lay down properly. Best of luck with your project! We are here to help if anything comes up!

What size piping do you recommend for patio cushions? Is 1/4 inch too large?

Why do you have to wrap the foam? Is there a certain type of foam and wrap recommended for outdoor use? Thanks a lot!
@onlinefabricstore2 жыл бұрын
It will soften the edges. For outdoor cushions, I actually don't use the cushion wrap. The less material the better with outdoor cushions, drying is of the upmost importance. Without the wrap, the edges are going to look a little more sharp, but if you don't like that look you can round them out a bit by cutting the edge on top slightly (I would say but off 1/8" at a 45 degree angle.)
@ivel382 жыл бұрын
Great video, what kind of adhesive did you attach the leftover pieces of foam together ? Thanks.
@onlinefabricstore2 жыл бұрын
It is called pro stick. It is on backorder right now, but you can find it here - www.onlinefabricstore.com/pro-stick-65-hi-strength-web-spray-adhesive-.htm

Can I just ask, you said cut the fabric to size of foam plus 1 inch, is that the size of foam plus the Dacron padding or the original foam dimensions so that it is plumper? Great video btw. Thank you. Chris
@onlinefabricstore3 жыл бұрын
You are going to want it to use the size of the original dimensions of the foam. When you are making cushions or pillows, you want the cover to be a little smaller than what you think you need so they look nice and plump.

I loved this tutorial and constructed my cushions but noticed my Velcro sticks to the Dacron when I was stuffing the cushion. I noticed a thin gauze-like fabric that you wrapped around the Dacron. What is that called? Or do you have any suggestions to avoid the Velcro sticking to the Dacron?
@onlinefabricstore2 жыл бұрын
The dacron cushion wrap we used comes with that thin material already attached. www.onlinefabricstore.com/cushion-dacron-wrap-fabric-.htm But you could probably use any thin material to wrap it, or try to cover the hook side of the velcro when putting in the cushion. Maybe with masking tape or painters tape.

I am the point of sewing the panel to the top and bottom piece. My question is, what foot do you recommend for this step? I cannot get close enough to the piping with my standard foot.
