The award-winning team behind the Boston Globe’s intensive investigation into Catholic church abuses will reunite for this special keynote conversation. The Spotlight team will be joined by moderator and screenwriter Josh Singer as they recount their experiences reporting on the complex story which won the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service in 2003 and showcase clips from “Spotlight,” the upcoming film about the project from Participant Media and Open Road. Singer will talk with the journalists about how the film, starring Liev Schrieber, Mark Ruffalo and Rachel McAdams, compares with real-life reporting as the secrecy and cover-ups unfolded. “Spotlight” is directed and co-written by Thomas McCarthy, who was nominated for an Academy Award(R) for the screenplay for “Up.” It is a co-production of Anonymous Content and Rocklin/Faust, financed by Participant Media, and will be distributed by Open Road Films in the United States and by Entertainment One internationally.

I thought this video would have more views. This talk was fantastic! The real-life Spotlight team have such colorful personalities. I admire how Tom, Josh, and everyone involved gave their every effort to give respect to this issue, its severity, and the difficult work involved for these reporters to tell the story in a way that challenges their community and the Catholic Community. This movie really is a love story to investigative journalism.

Love these interviews! I've seen the movie 5 times already and have started subscribing to the online edition of the Boston Globe. I'm a practicing Catholic yet cannot condone the cover-up of child sexual abuse. It's a tragedy; fortunately, the Spotlight team brought it to light.

It's an awful pity that Cardinal Law and others who put those priests back into communities where they could continue to abuse children were not made to account for their actions under oath in a court of law. To that end I think the battle was only half won.

In any other organization, whether for-profit or non-profit, the CEO would have been fired or forced to resign. Pope John Paul II was the pope from 1978-2005. The Boston Globe broke this story in 2002. There's no way that he and many others in the chain of command didn't know what was going on with these priests. Every Catholic should've demanded that the pope and every person complicit in the cover-up resign and be charged with the crimes they committed. What what did the church do? Declared that pope a "saint." What a farce. Just imagine how all of the priests' victims felt when that occurred. They were betrayed not only by the church hierarchy, but also by every Catholic who looked the other way and said, "oh well, what can we do?"

Agreed. Sexual predators were identified but not punished.

Josh raised some fair points, too, about the state of journalism today. Then, Robby pointed out both points that, today, there are fewer investigative journalists and more accessible information, which I find sad. I agree with Josh that it's easier today for the media to cite vague sources and each other than to build solid documentation.

What aboutADA George Burke who at the start of the movie came to pick up Gagon at the police station the innocent young police officer and the older police man who said what court and what records. Another time a big black police officer said he didn't want to cuff a priest. This shows how it was all over Mass. I knew about this as a child but thought it was local. Donna M. ONeil
