I have heard a lot of good things about this budget-friendly ultralight fishing rod so I decided to pick one up for myself. In today's video, I catch a bunch of fish on my new Okuma Celilo 6'6 ultralight & share my honest opinion on how good this rod is for ultralight fishing. Stay tuned because I plan to do more ultralight rod videos in the future! Many of you ask me for ultralight rod suggestions so I wanted to keep experimenting and learning about the various options out there. If you ever have a suggestion for a rod to pick up and review, please don't hesitate to ask!
View The Okuma Celilo Ultralight Rod Here: amzn.to/3wspTMt
Overall, the Okuma Celilo is one of the cheapest rods out there for ultralight fishing. I was not sure what to expect, but after several fish, I determined that it is a very solid setup for the price! It certainly performs better than I expected it to. It is pretty "whippy" but not so much that I can't detect bites. I was able to cast a light 1/64oz Mule Jig plenty far as well. The components are clearly low quality but that doesn't necessarily mean they are bad. It simply means that they are not intended for "high performance" fishing usage. Based on all of the reviews and my discussions with other anglers, this rod will last the test of time. I think you can't go wrong if you are looking for a rod that gets you on the water and you don't necessarily care about the aesthetics/appearance of your equipment.

The next rod I will be doing a video on is the Fenwick Eagle. This rod is a bit higher price than the Okuma Celilo so you get a bit more quality built in. Stay tuned for that video :)

I'm glad you chose to do this as Ive been window shopping Ultralights for a bit now. Okuma is on my radar (Plus it's what the guys at Addicted fishing channel primarily use) but I've been eyeballing the Daiwa Presso and the Temple Fork Outfitters Trout & Panfish ultralight. I plan to use it for trout as well as panfish/crappie so it's a dual purpose kinda thing I just have zero idea on the length. I'm thinking 6 ft is the sweet spot, but I just dont know. It's going to be used both in a kayak and from shore. I'd hate to spend the money only to learn after a few trips that I have the totally wrong length with no backbone, ya know? I tend to do my hooksets with a sharp wrist flick than a full pull back. Im buying online so it's sight unseen and im just takin a gamble

I just purchased the Celilo 5'6" UL with Moderate Taper and paired it with the same Daiwa Revros LT 1000 reel and 4# mono based on your recommendations and videos that I have really enjoyed. I like switching to this UL setup when the bass are not biting and I am getting bored on the kayak. I have already caught 8 bluegill on two outings. They are super fun to catch. Using soft plastics on a weedless jighead. Thanks for the great videos. Easy to listen to you as you provide just the right amount of info clearly and with some funny commentary at times.

Ethan , nice that your doing more budget minded rod reviews ! A lot of the Dobbs and St. Croix are just out of my dude with " kids in college" price range🙄. I have the 5'6 ,. 6'0 and 6'6 models of the Celilo. All are great rods all have landed 2 plus pound smallmouth in my local stream. There really is plenty of backbone on them and 4lb test is the sweet spot I think. Nice video 👍

Very informative video. Thank you. This became my first true ultralight rod a few weeks ago. You are spot-on that it feels a bit whippy, but most of my (mainly saltwater) rods are fast action, so I may be biased. Overall, I like it a lot, especially at this price point. It does a fair job of throwing a 1/64 oz. jig, and changing from 6 lb. to 2 lb. line made a noticeable difference in cast distance - I would estimate 20 percent. If anyone is considering a foray into ultralight, this rod looks like a good way to do it without breaking the bank. Thanks!

Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod kzbin.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.

@@FishAnything seeing how everything is budgeted for me the price has a big impact on purchasing. A good balance in a rod mandatory. Backbone is also a must. The Celilo is absolutely good for bobbers. I throw pistol petes behind water bobbers sometimes for trout. I also have some weighted balsa floats that I throw with this rod. Also, on bass, I have one with 10lb braid to 6lb mono that I keep in the car for the urban ponds near my work. a 3.5lb bass is a really good time on these rods. A weird setup that absolutely kills at one of the spots is an 1/8 oz drop shot with a #2 wire hook and a nose hooked Z-Man ned rig worm. I also fish lots of ned rig with these rods so I have those baits anyway.

The Okuma rods are fantastic. I started with Okuma fly rods and reels years ago. The Okuma SLV and Crisium fly rods are my favorite. I just started spin fishing a few years ago. The Okuma Celilo is the best value. I have the 4'6" the 5' and the 6'. I just ordered the 7' and it arrives tomorrow. I usually throw 1/8 oz on the heavy side like mini buzzbaits or micro chatterbait and 3.5" swimbaits but mostly throw 1/32 jigs with soft plastics or 1/16 inline spinners. I run the Daiwa Revros, Regal and Laguna with 6lb braid. Casts a mile with the longer rod. I've caught 18" smallmouth, chain pickerel and 4lb carp. You definitely have to fight longer with these rods as they dont have the backbone to horse anything in but I am never worried about breaking these rods and letting the fish pull that drag is fun.

FYI...the guides are farther away from the rod because when the line is coming off the reel it spins and hits the rod therefore cutting the distance when you whip your line out. The line guide eyes are smaller to keep the spiraling of the line when its peeling off the reel is smaller so your jig when thrown out goes farther as far as distance...aloha🤙😎

@B.A.Bassangler 2 жыл бұрын
@@dzenx9861 A rod specific to a species is a bit of a conundrum imo. You have to make decisions...what do you want 1 rod to do best? Buy a rod for what it does for what you want the lure to do. Every rod will have a sweet spot for (weight) of jig/trebel bait/weedless plastic it throws and hooksets efficiently. You might be throwing a 1/8oz jig on a rod that handles a 3/8oz crankbait just fine.

I bought a revros and coupled it with a light telescopic rod. A big trout hammered my lure and the drag on the revros was screwy at best. The I got another one of 24 inches. The drag was not teliable. It stays home this year. I have my shimano rarenium 2500. That thing really kicks ass. Better to spend the money.

I wonder if those Revros are inconsistent. Mine has landed me big pike, carp, bass, and catfish and the drag never messed up. But I have heard friends tell me they had a Revros drag screw them over on a big fish. Bummer if they have quality control issues.

So I just bought a Little Lucy Ultra Light rod for $25. It comes with rod and reel. The reel is surprisingly smooth (clearly cheap) but feels nice. The rod is nice and light / durable too. I caught a 14 inch large mouth on 8lb fire line and the pole and reel held up nicely. Only “reel” complaint is the drag. It’s hard to dial it in just right. For $25 I can’t think of a better value.

@@FishAnything yeah if I am fishing Gills, Perch, Rock Bass and hopefully just bigger, I am not really concerned about sensitivity. I will say, I would not put 8lb line on that real unless it’s threaded line like Fire or Spider line. I put Mr. Croppie line on it first and it bird nested on me.

Imo that rod ur using best suited for river/creek/stream trout fishin or farm pond fishin for large panfish most bass anglers use rods much heavier most like to be able to horse an lift a bass rite outta the water. You try it too many time with that rod you'll probably wind up breaking it. I own 4 of the 5'6 models 2pc been using them religiously for the last 3 yrs cawt thousands of fish on them 915 trout last yr quit in Dec cold bite plus weather too. Averaged 25-30 trout in 2021 went out 30-32 time from Apr-Dec. 15 trout over 17" PB 27" Brown all cawt and released. Inspected the only 2 Celilo rods I used this yr and 2020 corks a little discolored due to heavy use even in pouring rain. The guide inserts are spottless no cuts/Knicks/line grooves. I've retired 6 Ugly Stiks due to guide insert failure they say they are Stainless Steel inserts yet are all cut up big time from what I concider normal use and I don't even use braid and my ugly Stiks they say are braid ready lol what a joke. I use 4lb mono since 10yrs ago used to use 6 but 4's better 4 me lets me cast farther. I've brought in 35plus lb fish on 4lb test. That fish was a grass carp foul hooked using a original Rapala F-5 Chartruese/Silver belly. Bent all the treble hooks but 1. Caught and released unharmed. Pa farm pond 2011. So if any1 thinks these rods are cheap junky rods like my Uglystiks I retired think again only thing is Okuma discontinued them so what's Evers out there out there. Glad I got my 4. My Celilos are paired with Pflueger Summit Xt25 models the entire combo weighs 10.1ozs I can fish all day and night with little to no Fatique.
