so ‪@amsoiladam‬ hooked me up with a amazing upgrade to my 2022 Harley Davidson road glide. Adam sent me over a lithium battery from banshee. the stock lead acid battery on my road glide weighed in at 26 pounds and the new banshee lithium battery weighed in at only 4 pounds. this will be a awesome upgrade to my motorcycle. power to weight ratio, fuel economy, and performance.

I did essentially the same as you. i bought my Lithium Ion battery and charger from Advanblack. It spins over like crazy and fires right up. Just a reminder, you MUST use a charger specifically designed for Lithium Ion batteries.

I bought a lithium battery for a Harley 2015 ULTA LIMITED ITS a ? Lithium ATX-30 880 Cranking Amps they also have a new one out ATX30-HD 970. I installed mine in 7/21/2020 works great on weather below 35 degrees you must turn in knob and wait sever mins before starting to warm up battery. 3 years for Power sport Batteries Warranty. Keep your Original Receipt Good luck with your new battery. oh and yes they are much lighter. I use a Battery Lithium maintainer that cycles on and off when time for battery to charge up. I ALSO installed a Hi-Torque Starter Polished.

I just can't believe how light that was! I'm anxious to see how the starter works once you get Mad Max back together again because tell you the truth I can't believe the weight difference! Like you said it felt like an empty plastic cube !

I bought a lithium battery from Harley for my 2014 Heritage and it was 1/2 the size and the battery came with a filler compartment to make up the difference. The only thing is when the bike sits for any length of time it goes into a sleep mode, so you have to try starting it and if it don’t start the first time you have to let it sit for about 30 seconds before trying it again. All and all I like the battery.

Talk to Adam about the charger. You don’t leave a lithium battery on a charger like you do a regular battery. Adam told me you rarely have to charge a lithium battery and, if you do, it’s for a very brief period of time. I have the same battery as you that Adam installed in Octoberfest.

Check your regulator rectifier will charge it correctly also. Most harley charging systems will overcharge and eventually destroy lithium ion batteries.

The weight savings is huge! I just hope that you don't have an issue like I had with an optima battery. The charging system on the bike never fully charged the battery. If I remember correctly the battery was fully charged at 15v. Needless to say it gave me a slow crank in cold weather. Obviously the manufacturer of the battery doesn't tell you this when you buy it. Only after some research was this found out. Best of luck & I'm sure you will keep us posted as to the results after some time of using the new battery.

It is crazy how lithium batteries weigh less that the standard. Need to do more research on those before I switch. Good thing you pointed out you need a lithium trickle charger and not your regular trickle charger. Can’t wait to get your long term thoughts on battery. Proper battery care consists of: not over idling your bike, not using too much accessories connected to the battery, Taking the battery out during winter storing in the house. everything will be fine in my opinion.

More than the 10-12 lbs saved, my bike turned over faster with the lithium. Also has self preservation that prevents it from draining below what’s needed to crank the bike.

I bought a HD lithium batt two years ago for my low rider 103 ho 17 year , piece of garbage they quit selling them, mine would not crank starter after a couple short runs 300 bucks down the drain.

The reason that it feels like a plastic box with nothing inside is simple. Inside that giant Harley sized box there isn't any lead or acid, but there is a nice little lithium battery box with a whole lot of air or foam around it.

Not exactly true. Yes, there are manufacturers out there that make the battery smaller because they are only building the batteries to match the OEM capacity. Which with lithium is obviously a smaller package and then you have the wasted space that they filled with a filler. The great thing about Banshee, instead of the others is that instead of the empty space, they put larger cells with more capacity and that’s why that battery puts out over 600 cranking amps? and as an additional advantage, it fits without any adapters.

Thinking about your Fork seals. I operated shipboard cranes in cold environments and seal leaks were not uncommon MC forks basically being a hydraulic system can experience weeping and viscosity thickening. I would imagine in the temps you ride in and the wind chill at 80 miles per hour could easily cause expansion and contraction that could lead to leaks. My two cents.

Weight difference is one thing, but price and length of service is another. A Regular battery is about $100 less and it may last a little over two years, maybe. The lithium battery last about 3 years. Bottom line, I'm paying about $100 a year for a battery regardless of which one I use. Plus, I'd have to buy a special battery tender. Are there any concerns about jumping one of these if it dies? So other than losing 20 lbs. of weight and another year for another $100, what have I gained? No battery hassle for another year? Pay now or pay later, seems almost the same, just 20 lbs. less. Did I miss something?
