He was good for the sport of professional football, & the NFL as we know it would not exist without him. Al Davis was not the greatest owner of all time, but he transformed the sport as well: a key player in the merger of the NFL-AFL. The Hall of Fame is NOT just for individual achievement/excellence: many deserving players are voted in posthumously

I met Joe Namath when I was in day camp and he was still playing for the Jets. He knew exactly how to act around a bunch of adoring little kids. Best memory from that Summer by far. Especially since that was the summer I was bitten by two bees on the last day of camp between my fingers. Cried all the way home.
