As a mom, I raised my children to appreciate all food. When they first started eating solids, I made sure they ate veggies. The rule in our house was “two bites”. You had to had to eat two bites of everything. If you didn’t like it, quietly set it aside and always be respectful. Someone took the time to prepare it, the least they could do was show respect. Now as they are adults, I’m proud to say they are adventurous eaters who have a healthy respect for food and the cultures in which they are consumed. Well done to this young man. He’s able to see that he was headed down a road of misery with his chips habit and made the right changes.

I've seen a woman in an episode of 'Supersize vs. Superskinny' who was actually so obsessed with healthy food she was malnourished because she lacked the good nutrients from the "bad" foods she never ate. I say "bad" because, those foods are what we still need, but in moderation. That's the issue in general, people overdo it. Like Dave thinking at first he would never be allowed to eat chips at all now. You can, just keep it in moderation.

He doesn't. I'd wager it's a borderline hallucination; he's mentally associating the colour green with one particular smell/taste, and it's become so powerful that he's actually convincing himself he CAN smell/taste it... even when it's not actually there. If I had to guess, probably broccoli because that was what kickstarted the whole issue.

As a child, I always hated tomatoes. But when I became a teen/young adult, there were situations and groups of people that I felt would judge me or do an eye roll if I picked the tomato out of my sandwich or what have you. I learned to at least tolerate them in mixed company, but years later, still prefer to avoid them!

It's fine to have certain things you don't like. It's weird to only like one, two or three things. With tomatoes, ask for them not to be on there in the first place. I like tomatoes but I hate ketchup. So for anything that normally has ketchup, I request "no ketchup please". No big deal.

What's striking is how healthy they do look after years upon years of exactly same food. I mean, if i don't eat say vegetables for a shorter period i get itchy all over my body and having noticeable negative health swings. It was a period in my student life where fast food was a substantial part of my diet, and when thinking back then i realize how bad it was. How can all those people, eating one single type of food, chips or whateva, for years upon years, without having any visible health syndromes? I don't get it.

They start at a young age so their body adapts to it. If you are older your body is already accustomed to a certain way of eating. Not to say it can’t be changed but it will be harder. Humans know very little about nutrition. Even so-called nutritionists. The reason for this is that everyone is unique. We can’t tell people what is best for them. What works best for them. That is up for us to decide because we know ourselves best.

It's because he's young. If he were 10-15 years older on the same diet, he may already have health issues. And certainly by the time he’s 40 or 50, that's when most peoples bad diets catch up to them. I'm sure he's already feeling some ill effects from this terrible diet like lethargy, poor immune system, bloating, digestive issues

I used to have trouble with green food but I got over it when I grew up. I got a best mate who still struggles with it and refuses to eat peas or beans but he will take broccoli as a third part of cauliflower and broccoli cheese so that's something.

His bad behavior at the table as a child caused him to become an attention seeker. This is the purpose of the hair color, piercings, tattoos, and the reason he put the pasta with pesto in his mouth, even chewing it, and did not respond to it until his partner began to draw attention to it.

They needed to show him how to make air fries. Potato chips baked in the oven are actually very tasty, and nutritious! Potatoes, without all that oil & salt, are actually very healthy. He needs to eat other vegetables too, but air fries could go along with that.

That's not how it works. A lot of these people won't EAT cooked foods if you try to introduce them straight away, especially when they don't have a full understanding of what's in them. You forget that this isn't actually ABOUT the food; it's a conditioned fear response, and fear responses get significantly worse when you don't understand something. They have to start slowly with single, raw ingredients so that the victim's brain goes "ah ha, I know what this is" and then slowly build from there. It's called exposure therapy, and it's what you use for pretty much every phobia.

Because those are not processed calorie dense foods. Humans are genetically programmed to naturally prefer the most calorie dense food in their environment, even if it’s unhealthy. We evolved in an environment of scarcity, and still behave as though we live in scarcity.
