The US and UK versions are so different. The UK version is much more analytical- for example, let's walk through some historic gardens as a metaphor on your life. The US version is like- here are ten tons of beans dumped in front of you- now walk through them with bare feet. lol. Also, the UK version of a show spans four weeks, where the US version spans four DAYS. Again, showing the huge differences in our culture. You can't undo a lifetime of bad eating in four days, although the US participants do a good job of it. I enjoy the UK version a lot more, because it's more thoughtfully put together.

The UK version is better than the US version imo. The psychologist isn't just off the cuff, and they're not trying to get in and get out within like 4 days or a week, regardless of if they've helped the person or not. The psychologist really went deep and asked good and insightful questions, rather than just screaming DENIAL or whatever. They waste just as much food though, it makes me ashamed as a human...
@ivanhozjan71376 жыл бұрын
Also, I somehow get the sense that UK version is more likely to be genuine. As you've already mentioned, 4 weeks vs. 4 days after which these people are supposed to eat a proper meal at a celebration, but also the way that American freaky eaters are surprised by the encounter with JJ and Mike after being exposed to 2 cameras and a microphone for at least a minute without taking a notice, part of the cast never changing the clothes in some episodes...

I have watched over a dozen of these programmes now and I always think of an Australian doctor who once said that.."no toddler with purposely starve themselves". If parents provide a child with food they like and NOTHING ELSE you set them up for life with problematic eating disorders, as is evident in many of the episodes. Parents take note. YOU are the ones who buy, prepare and present food to toddlers and children, so the outcomes are YOUR FAULT.

Sometimes I was at the table for hours. Tough love? Well I have a varied diet and try new things all the time. Different generations maybe. My parents thought wasting food was a crime and my grandparents told stories of the Depression and having NO food. I hate wasting food to this day and HATE having to throw something away.

notice how everyone on these shows isn’t much older than 30... yeah, that’s because their diet kills them

Mum ~ I always made sure to have in the house the food that he would eat ~I would have done exact opposite.

Chips and beans reminds me of school dinners and the getting heartburn and indigestion.

So where did he get the chips and beans to begin? In my house you eat what you're given or starve. Literally. No food until next meal.

Its delicious beans and chips but not eating vegetables its like there is no happiness...But honestly this show is over dramatized.

I’ve been eating baked beans as my main thing for the past week and I seriously feel crazy healthy. Better than when I ate only chicken breast. I go through phases, and I’m always addicted to one food but they change.

It's never a losing battle with a child! You are the grown ups. You don't battle them at the table you tell them to leave the table and when they say they're hungry you give them back their supper cold. Elizabeth MD Ph.D

If my parents had done that with me, I would literally have starved to death. My parents struggled to get me to eat anything at all, even things I liked, because I had (and still have) such severe sensory problems with food thanks to my autism. I've been underweight my entire life; my BMI is currently 19, and a healthy BMI is between 20 and 25. 19 is actually high for me; my average is 17-18.

My father did that to me. Ask me how close my relationship is with him as an adult. Oh never mind, you put your credentials down, you must know everything

The only thing that makes me mad is that they throw away the food. That’s A LOT of food that could feed dozens of homeless/struggling people

It’s so funny how whenever I scroll through the UK version comments, everyone always asks about JJ Virgin and Mike Dow, but not once has anyone on the US version asked where the UK docs are 😂

When you're expecting JJ Virgin (And the other guy who's name I forgot), then realize that this is the UK vision.

They could start him out with baked potatoes and haricot beans, spaghetti with tomato pasta sauce. And then mix in some cooked vegetables with the pasta sauce, like capsicum, zuchinni and extra tomato. And some vegetables to top the baked potato. Like sweetcorn, capsicum, grated carrot, chopped beetroot and green peas.
