To be fair, the reason John Wick didn't kill Winston was out of loyalty or friendship. It wasn't that he "changed his mind." I never believed he was going to kill Winston in the first place, even when he initially agreed to it. John is an assassin, but he still has a code. At that point in the movies, Winston had been very fair to him and had even given him time to escape. It seemed perfectly believable to me that John wouldn't want to kill him.

That's what I've been saying. John Wick is John Anderson in one of those other Matrix's. In this world Neo takes the blue pill and wakes up as John Wick but somehow manages to keep some of his powers. Even Morpheus takes a blue pill after Neo.
