I'm now over 60 years old. I have owned 19 bikes so far. I still have my 2010 Dorsoduro (bought new), it is easily the best bike I have ever owned. In the twisties, nothing keep up with it. It has a 14 front sprocket, Leo Vince exhaust & mid-pipe, Fat Duck, Shorai battery, Wilbers Rear Shock and Healtech shifter indicator. With all the lost weight as well as upgrades, it's a very different bike.

Still feel the same about it? I really like super moto bikes but want something that can keep up on highways better so been trying decide on a dorsoduro 750, a hyper motard 821 or the 900cc version, or the KTM 690 smc. It's incredibly hard to decide bc I wish I could have all 3 but I can only get one for now 😂😂

@@josephlilley9249 Hi! Yup, I still feel the same about my DD. It is the bike where I always turn around to look at it when I park it in any place! If you don't turn around to look at it when you leave it, that is not your bike... Mine just got a new pair of shoes this past weekend. As for the models you're looking for, bear in mind that these are not the most indicated to run on highways, they are not built for wind protection. But in town, they're the best. Super easy to ride and make tight maneuvers. I use mine almost everyday for the past months. If I had the chance, I would go for the DD 900. It's more recent, comes with a new dash and has a more robust engine. In your case, I would reccomend to ride each one of the models that you have in mind to choose from, that is the best way for you to decide ;)

Its rare i totally agree with a review. My 750 Dorsoduro is a great bike for the most part. Very well built, a strong (when fueled correctly) engine although not economical. There is also another fault I found on mine that is not so well documented. If the battery becomes weak the ECU can go into a lockout when the starter is pressed. The engine cranks fine and all sounds well. But the engine will not start. I found this a few years ago when I needed the bike one winter morning. Tried several attempts to start it but nothing. No error messages on the dash, fuel pump primed fine just on start. Guessing the engine had no spark. When I jumped the battery from my car the engine started straight away although cranking was no faster . Connecting an oscilloscope to the ECU showed on first press of the start button the battery voltage dropped to 8.3 V causing the ECU to lock out in an undervoltage crash. With a normal voltmeter all looks fine. So if your Aprilia won't start in the winter check battery connections and battery condition. It took me a while to sus this out.

Hi Simon, Problem is the long mass cable running from battery to the front starter motor, giving too much drop of voltage for rest of system while starting. I made an extra mass connection directly on the frame next to the (-) pole of the battery and the problem was solved. Starting is if you had a new battery after the mod. At least it worked for me. Also check the power connections bolts on the starter motor, here some corrotion can buildup on the contacts because it's a bit exposed to the elements.
@SoddingaboutSi
@SoddingaboutSi Жыл бұрын
@@infokanaal Not on mine. Cranking speed is fine. The problem is on initial crank there is a brief voltage drop that locks out the EHU resulting in no spark or fail injector actuation.

I bought an 09 750 Dorso new, at mile 50 it died. The nearest Aprilia dealer refused to work on it under warranty. Trucked it back to the place where I bought it, turns out the ignition switch wire was pinched from the factory by the gas tank. Other than that it was a fun bike to ride, owned it a few years, slightly heavy bike, a little under powered, fuel tank was too small, but it put a smile on my face when I rode 'er!

An 08 shiver 750 was my first bike. One of my peeves with it is the catalytic converter that ran under the seat made it a very hot bike to ride when the weather is warm. I didn't realize how underpowered they are until I moved on to other bikes. I enjoyed it while I had it. Put around 12k miles on it for the 5 years I had it. I'm on the shorter side too and it sits high. Slow riding and maneuvering is pretty tricky as well. The reason I ultimately sold it was the complete lack of aftermarket availability in the US. Anything you could get was horrendously expensive.

Still have my 2008 Shiver 750. Used the O2 dongle to improve low end throttle response (was on for 6 months) but all I got was O2 sensor errors which eventually clogged up my ECU. I just got used to riding slow in Sport mode with small throttle inputs which fixed the problem. And they are cold frogs. They have a rock solid chassis which in turn makes it a sweet handler and suspension which can handle poor roads. Front forks are a bit lacking.

I have a 2016 750 ABS Dorsoduro and added Arrow exhaust with re-MAP, forged wheels and 520 chain and sprockets. This combination of mods greatly improved everything that is complained about in this video. I would prefer an extra 25 horsepower but doubt it could be done practically with a 750 but easily done if it was a 1200. I doubt the 1200 could corner as good at the 750. The 750 is a great bike and I would buy it again. I hope Aprilia keeps making Dorsoduros.

Had an all black Dorsoduro 750 2009 bike, kept it for 3 years and had to sale it due to a back injury. Should never have sold it, I’ve owned 20 plus bikes and by far this is the one I miss. Good low owner / mileage bikes still sale for the same money today as I sold mine for. Only going to be collectible in the future, buy one now if you find a clean one. Did a novice track day and took out bike sports bikes on braking and cornering but obviously couldn’t match straight line power.

I have a 2010 750 Dorso Factory. Quality, leftfield bike that gets heaps of attention. Downsides - too heavy and utterly state of shite fuelling as standard. Seriously - in sport mode the fuelling is so bad and snatchy it is pretty close to dangerous in stop go traffic. Also - tank is hilariously small. Putting akaras and a lithium battery on it saves around 10kg from up high which is very noticable. Putting a 'fatduc' on it as mentioned in the vid is a must - $50 to transform your bike. Now runs super smooth. Fantastic bike - not the hooligan it looks like but sounds mega and goes really well. Reliable, characterful well made machine that is an utter bargain. Just need to convince myself that the 5kg weight saving by going to RSV4 factory wheels is worth the cost now...

I briefly owned a 2012 shiver 750 abs. It definitely had that Italian flair/flaw. It was a damn pretty bike (pearl white with red frame) you felt like you were riding something a little special. It had a nice amount of character with a few vibrations here & there & a great decel pop around town. I really did enjoy owning it, but ultimately I moved it on in favour of an MT09 tracer. The tiny fuel range & lack of/high price of aftermarket accessories ment that it just didn't suit my needs. On one hand I don't miss it, on the other it would have been nice to have it parked in the shed between my monster & tracer

Specs sheet shopping killed the Shiver and Dorsoduro, and can't blame buyers either. Who buys an old design bike fitted with an engine that makes less power than their competition? The Aprilia's were stuck in a niche market, only bought by people who knew what they were getting into and loved the character of those bikes in spite of their shortcomings in the peak power and weight department. In the cruiser market that sounds like a deal, but the standard/naked market is too aggressive and number driven for bikes like these. Aprilia had to move on and I can't blame them for that. But that didn't stop me from buying a Dorsoduro 900.

It was always a shame that these models had piddly little fuel tanks. Riders just don’t want to have to be looking for fuel every hundred miles. My SL1000 Falco had a 21l tank and was good for 180 miles on a run. That’s what the Shiver needed....and to get rid of the high level cans...stupid idea on a sports bike. The bike struggles to crank a bit with her stock battery, and I hope lithium will help her out on that, even just a bit. I have Shiver 900. After 2 years i think about to sell it and...2 years later i did't sell it. Why? I try many new bikes and from handling, breake power and just fun factor i did't find any other new bike which give me the same level of satisfaction so...Maybe i try sell it in this year but...I'm still not sure i want do this for sure :D Only when someone give me proper price, that i have no traume after sell this bike :D It will be hard :D I dont agree with fuel economy failure...If I ride Shiver on SPort mode realle agresiv it still stays on 5,5l/100km. When i ride daily trips sinks even to 3,8l/100km, mostly 4,2l/100km. You can search another 900cc bike with same fuel economy and I sure You, You did't find. And from service costs stays between regular Japanese bikes and Ducati. So, it's in some areas not cvheap but also not in highest level of payment what You must to consider.

Hope you enjoy it! The Shiver is a really good bike made better with some mods. It doesn't have the outright power and is a little bit heavier than the opposition, but it is a nice unique package. The MT07/09 are more hoon bikes, the Z750's from the time are OK but nothing special. The Street Triples are probably the best opposition for them at the time, they are top bikes. I also had the 2012 Brutale 675 which was a lot of fun. but not perfect

I've owned my 2012 Shiver 750 since new (bought late in 2013). I've put more than 120,000 km on it since then. Fun bike. It's comfortable, handles well, brakes well, fast enough for most riding especially around suburbia. The torque of the v-twin makes it effortless to ride and get away from traffic at the lights. Looks and sounds great. It's a blast in the twisties. I've changed my stock exhaust to a RoadsItalia exhaust and installed a lithium battery which has shaved some weight off. The lithium battery weighs just under 1kg compared to 4kg for the stock battery. The specs of the bike don't do it justice if you're looking for a street bike. Before I bought the Shiver I test rode a Honda Blackbird which has heaps more power and is a silky smooth ride. I was bored within minutes of sitting on it. You have to be doing close to 100km/h in first gear to get some excitement out of the motor and although it's not slow slow before then it just feels lifeless. The Shiver lets you rip through the gears a bit and is way more fun to ride despite having less power.
