guys i am LOVING your sprout/micros tray kit (5) the bigger size that comes with your reusable grow medium. i am having way more success with it than with coco in my 10x20's. idk why! maybe the smaller trays maintain a more consistent grow environment? i am also using them to sprout of my alfalfa and clover seeds vertically. so pretty and i love how much cleaner it is using the reusable silicone. total game changer not dealing with coco, soil, various mats that always gave me mold, etc. very happy and SO affordable!!! i am obsessed

I'm so glad to see these newer videos. I bought your silicone medium and that's all I know. most all of your videos are from years ago when you didn't have the silicone yet. I'm interested to know if there are other differences using the mat vs the free chart I downloaded fromyour site, ie. weighted days, blackout days, etc.
@OnTheGrow Жыл бұрын
Glad you are enjoying them! Yes, most of our older videos are focused on Coco Coir, so we're trying to get some more out on the reusable medium to help others understand how to use it better. Plus, we primarily use it our selves now! There can be differences! The main thing is the guide is more of a general guide to give people an idea of what to do, but not to the T in all cases. Everyone's grow environment differs, which means grow times & germination times can too.

Thank you! We also sell them in 4.5in x 7.825in, but they can be cut down further - we just don't except returns on altered product so keep that in mind! We also haven't tested it in 5x5 trays, yet, so I'm not sure if it would work as well or not! Curious though!

Could you tell me what kind of prophylactic spray you use ?
How you grow them without having mold. So nice microgreens
@tamasjuhasz63312 ай бұрын
As a fellow grower who had issues with mold, IMO the key factors are: Try not to overwater your grow medium and avoid pooling. A too wet environment is a breeding ground for mold and bacteria. Don't use too much seeds on your trays. Overstuffed trays are the most likely to get mold in my experience. This also connected to the next tip: Make sure you have good air ventilation. Using a small ventilator can be a huge help, and using less seeds also supports good air ventilation. Make sure you clean your equipment and grow space properly. You don't need a sterile environment, but a good cleaning routine helps a lot with avoiding contamination. +1: it's totally optional, but I found a small amount of food grade H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) really helpful with my grows. I use 3% H2O2 in water with a ratio of 1:9 or 1:19. I can't really tell how to use it properly in a single comment, so I suggest doing a little research on the topic to better understand when and how to use this solution. Too much H2O2 can damage the seeds/crops, but when used properly, it's an environmentally friendly way of keeping your water and trays clean. It breaks down to water an oxygen, so not only the plants won't absorb any chemicals, the extra oxygen also helps your grow.

Can you do a video on the top 5 underrated microgreens? Your videos are amazing and I fell down a rabbit hole. I enjoyed you growing things like Chia, but didn’t seem like it was your favorite. Hello, I can see the difference in the weight you put on the black no hole tray. Is it because of the grow medium vs cocopeat? What is the science behind the weights on top? And help on this topic would be highly appreciated. Thank you Sahil
@OnTheGrow Жыл бұрын
7 to 15lbs is best for sunflower, 7lbs is great for most other crops, and then the delicate crops do best with just the weight of the tray. Here's our video on this topic kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYWmo5p8i6-IeKc

Completey off vid topic but a question for sunflower microgreens… is it recommended to remove seed hulls that have tiny weevil holes in them or can i leave em in and expect them not to grow? I ask because i ordered a lot of sunflower seeds from both True Leaf market and a microgreens tik toker in different times and like a BIGGGGG ratio of them like every 2 seeds theres one or two with tiny bug holes in them. Thats a lot. And i dont want to spend an hr picking out every seed with a hole in it which is like almost every other seed. Hopefully yall see this which is the reason I commented on ur most recent vids lol. Anyways thx for yalls content for sure yall have been my reference point since i started growing
@OnTheGrow Жыл бұрын
Really glad you reached out on this topic! If we were you, we would contact both people we bought the seeds from and ask for a refund or exchange for a new batch and provide them with photos of the holes. There shouldn't be a TON of weevil holes, however sometimes you might come across just a few. To us, that sounds like you got a bad batch, and if you were to grow them out, most would grow still. However, the ones with the holes likely wont grow, and will be more likely to cause issues with mold and/or fungus gnats. Also, its likely that the tik toker is buying the seeds from true leaf, re-branding them, and selling them, since they both seem to have the same issue. Maybe try buying from johnnyseeds.com - they can sometimes be a bit pricier, but their seeds are usually great too. Hope this helps! If you have other questions, reach out to us on Instagram or through our email. Most comments on KZbin get lost because we get so many now a days. - Mandi

@@OnTheGrow Thanks for your reply - I'm excited with this silicone mat. I admit - I get tired of fussin' with dirt and all it entails! :)
@MorrisandApril8 ай бұрын
So do you have to keep your seed density this low for the mesh?
@OnTheGrow8 ай бұрын
It's the same seeding density we do for soil & Coco coir. Personally, we don't like to over-seed our trays. Also, the inner dimensions of BSF 1020 trays slightly changed when they switched to a US manufacturer. Meaning there is slightly less seeding room.
@OnTheGrow8 ай бұрын
The best thing to do is play around with different densities and see what works best for you in your space! 😊

Can we use normal filtered water instead of ocean solution?
@OnTheGrow Жыл бұрын
Yes, you absolutely can. However, you'll generally have better results with growth & harvest weight when using nutrients with this medium type.
@davidkirby273 ай бұрын
Curious to know why you utilise a nutrient solution - my understanding with plants biology is that the possess enough 'energy' within the the seed itself to generate growth up until the first set of 'true leaves'. Considering a 'microgreen' by definition is harvested with only the cotyledon leaves, I am at a loss in understanding the nutrient requirements.

Can u pls show how to grow SWISS CHARD using the water method? I tried it ... not successful. According to my seed vendor, it grows best in soil. How about collard greens or kohlrabi? Whenever I try germinating without soaking, my seeds don't do well.
@OnTheGrow Жыл бұрын
Hello! Swiss chard will not work with this medium type, and is on our list of crops that don't work with it. Due to the seed type, it prefers coco coir or soil mediums. As for collards & kohlrabi, we grow them all the time with the silicone reusable grow medium using the same method in this video! If your seeds are not germinating well, you may not be watering them enough and/or trapping in enough humidity. Watering is key with this medium type. Also, over watering can cause the same issue. If you can send us an email with a photo of the issue, we'd be able to better help you. info@onthegrow.net

Why the microgreen grow on silicone mesh medium not plump as grow on soil medium?
@OnTheGrow Жыл бұрын
They are plump? Also, you have to think about how the medium sits in the tray too. The silicone is lower on the tray, whereas soil & coco coir raise everything up by about 1 to 2 inches and can make the tray look fuller, even if its the same harvest weight. That and it greatly depends on how much seed you are using, what lights, and even nutrients added.
