The name doctor killer was for the v tail bonanzas because doctors were flying into rough imc conditions with out proper training ., the v tail bonanza had a airworthiness directive to enforce the rudder is a beauty to fly always is the plane is properly maintain and in airworthiness conditions I like v tails cool plane to fly also you have to understand the fuel management very well before you fly one or these .

That could be very true as well. But I also have heard there is an issue with the mixture and leaning of the prop. If you weren’t very experienced in those two areas some would run the mixture too rich foul out the plugs and kill the engine. Not a good scenario. But that plane is one of the best looking GA planes of the bunch!

@Night Rider lol. It’s pilot error not airplane error that kills in the majority of crashes. Nothing wrong with bonanzas. The new ‘doctor killer’ cirrus sr22 has nothing wrong with it either and most crashes are pilot error.

Somebody correct me - if it is planned to have one wheel touch down before the other, and course is held with rudder, then by definition the aircraft is out of balance. Ergo there is reduced amount of deflection available for control in turbulence, if needed.

Yeh its a "balance " (hah, see what I did there..) between maximising controllability and avoiding having a gust pick the upwind wingtip up and throw you in the dirt. If that happens, you'll need a LOT of aileron authority to save it, so its generally deemed safer to sacrifice some control authority to keep the upwind wingtip a few degrees low and make damn sure it doesn't catch a gust. The alternative method is crabbing the aeroplane, but you do have to put the boot in right before the mains touch down or you can pull a tyre off the bead or worse damage/collapse the main gear legs. Rather unlikely in a light single, and when I've mistimed the rudder on crabbed crosswind landing it just shoves those onboard around a bit and anyone else on board takes the piss afterwards!

Having done pretty much all that these guys a doing, plus a lot more, including war zones such as Afghanistan, I find the over-dramatizing difficult to deal with.. yes, it's a killer if we get it wrong.. but that's the deal, don't get it wrong. Nature and circumstances are going to get you if you're unable to deal with major, unforeseen issues. I'd like to believe that the editing is clipping out references to the emergency checklist, I'm sure that these guys are much too professional to do that. Someone needs to talk to the boss of the ferry flight company and remind him of the lift equation.... there's nothing in that formula that allows for a customer's urgent requirements, the lease expiry of the aircraft, the financial position of the ferry flight company or a daughter's birthday. If he's unable to accept that, better to find some other line of work. The Bonanza with the gear problem wasn't simply an inconvenience with the gear down and locked, it would hugely affect the fuel burn and range. I never did have a problem saying No when I could see my safety options eaten away beyond a certain point, it's why sitting here in retirement I'm proud to have been thought of as someone who gets the job done.. and safely. I've had more than a fair share of opportunities to screw up.

AT ,,22:45 , no pilot would go on a long flight with a stuck down landing gear ,, the range will be reduced considerably ,, so ferrying a bonanza to Brazil is simple impossible in such conditions .

Aero engines sweat for me because I leave the levers at climb power until I'm as high as my flight planning allows. No point in scudding around at 2kft in all the aeroplane soup trying not to hit everyone else. If you have an engine failure, altitude is the best friend you'll ever have, ESPECIALLY in a single. Ive had a C152 up to FL85+ in Spain. To be honest I got bored thrashing the nuts off the engine for 200fpm climb! It'd probably have cracked FL100 eventually, but I was running out of track miles!

Well, the Monday morning quarterbacks will correctly say they shouldn't have set off if they were in any risk of arriving after the end of civil twilight etc etc etc. You can always trace this sort of issue back to a fault in planning or in airmanship. In practice, shit sometimes happens, and there is plenty of commercial pressure to get the job done (rightly or wrongly) and a 'mayday fuel' would have done the trick if needed. Thing is, that aerodrome will be restricted for safety reasons, so a genuine 'mayday fuel' is still risky.

Horrible. I could probably get past the fake emergencies and mechanical problems. It is after all a t.v. show. The very clear piston engine sound coming from a turbo prop? No excuse from "professionals". It wasn't just a one time mistake either. Every time they showed the " heavily modified souped up" king air with the bigger turboprop engines and propellers it had the sound of a b17. 99% of the people watching I'm sure would have loved to hear the sound of the actual airplane we were looking at. Or even no sound. Oh and if you're going to pretend to be a United states produced show? We use miles or knots per hour and measure hight in feet. Try following some Canadian ferry pilots.
