I’m new to all this and will be attempting my first top shot connection. So pre knot there is still approximately 2.5’ of mono in the braid. The knot takes place where the mono just enters the braid. Does that unknotted braid on the opposite end move around on the mono.

What I really want to know is how you were able to drill that 2nd hole in your Irwin clamps? That material is seriously hardened and my cobalt bits don't even leave a mark.

Most serves do loose wraps on the braid /spliced mono, then tight whip to rizzuto on mono. You're opposite. Any reason?

I didn't see where you tightened that PR bobbin knot so that the wraps bit in to the mono/fluoro. Basically, that knot just keeps the end of the hollow core braid from unraveling, right? But I don't think it serves to do anything except support the chinese-finger-style connection between the braid and the leader served into it. Is that correct? Or does that PR bobbin knot actually serve more of a purpose?

As he mentioned, the PR knot is a 100 % knot as well, and is commonly used on non-hollow braid to mono. Although he didn't make super thight, so in this case its more to keep the leader from slipping should you lose tension on the line for some reason. Yes! This is a good way to connect your mainline (hallowcore) to your flouro leader. This allows the line to freely move through your guides while casting big game lures!

We for gaint blue fin go 2 fathoms up inside ur braid then wipe splice every 3 ft from top to bottom ,half hitches with 3 inches long ,an we never lose any fish up to 126 inch 860 lb ,,I don't know about this guy's method,if it pulls through ull have a birds nest an if it gets in ur top roller guide ,you'll lose ur fish ,,,I've seen a 💩ton of so called experts ,no disrespect to the video guy ,just my experience,I had to learn ftom guys that have caught giants for years an for our live ing ,great video though

I agree with going in deeper if it's a direct splice. I usually go about 10 feet. Takes maybe two minutes to go ten feet. Why not at that point. When it's a wind on leader that you're casting, going ten feet isn't a great idea. Having that long a section really impacts casting. I have realized if you go about a foot shorter than the rod, casting isn't impacted so I'll go anywhere from 6-8 feet. You don't want to ever have the full splice in your guides casting. I fish giant bluefin in the winter in North Carolina and we'll straight inline the full ten feet. Not sure about the need for that many whip serves but I'm sure it works. What we do is actually tie two nail knots on the mono under the spectra sleeve. We then serve the last 4-5" of the spectra with 20lb solid spectra. Haven't caught an 800+ pounder but hopefully soon. Plenty of 5-600 pound fish though and the splice has yet to cost us one. Tight lines!

When tellingbpeople how to chose like sized or test lines to build the wind on rig, please remind people that not all lines in the same test are of equal diameter. That is due to line manufacturer and quality. Monofilament and florocarbon technology has improved greately over the years where line strength have increased while reducing the line diameter. So you have to chose carefully which line to match with whi h hollowcore by line thickness, stre gth, quality and as per the target species, so as to make the right decision to ensure not only a hookup but a successful landing.
