@@Overseer2579 Playful Kiss is a story originally from a manga that has been adapted to anime and also countless live action drama adaptations. It centers around the "love story" of a girl who ends up having to live with the guy she has a huge crush on. Her grades are not good while he's a genius. But he literally never shows any emotions and constantly steps on her feelings for him. Eventually they get married and even when she's pregnant, he shows 0 concern for her whatsoever, doesn't care about her feelings or well being. Whenever she mentions that she has many other better options than him, he tells her that it doesn't matter bc he's the one she likes so she will never really be able to get out of this relationship even if she tries. So yeah, a "love story". The guy looks likterally dead inside and doesn't give a crap abt her feelings, but hey he's the male lead so ofc we as an audience should like him! Lol

I think the weird thing about the "men should show emotions" vs "men shouldn't show emotions" nonsense is that it always seems to get pigeon-holed into being about CRYING on both sides. Men don't cry a lot and rarely feel like crying, so equating "showing emotions" to "crying" will make men feel like it's reasonable. On the flipside, when people who want men to show emotions always talk about crying or "breaking down", that sounds WEIRD to most men (and a little like fetishizing rather than concern). Like why do you want to see them CRY so badly?? It's just a really bad way to get into the topic and can make women have a false sense that her guy is NOT "opening up" when he actually is just because he isn't weepy. I think it's likely that "showing emotions" or "sharing emotions" is different for men than women and that it's worth exploring, but weight needs to be taken off "crying". There are many ways to express one's emotions that aren't crying and if those other ways are preferable for men, it seems more worthwhile to look into them IF men's mental health is really the concern.
@TinyCloud902 жыл бұрын
@@vlo4829 i mean there are more emotions than sadness, right? But i would like to know if my partner is upset or sad, angry about a situation, as much as i like him to know what makes me the same way. its about getting to know the other person, and understanding. It shows that i care about his well being, as i want him to care about mine. And even if, god forbid, he is crying because shit hurts sometimes, he shouldnt feel weak, he should feel safe, because only then, he isn't judged for being himself. I want my partner to feel safe with me, as i want to feel safe with him.
@vlo48292 жыл бұрын
@@TinyCloud90 Sure. It's just whenever I see this "debate" occur, I find that there is too much focus on GRAND expressions of emotions and there are women who seem oddly unsatistifed with men expresing themselves calmly or in milder ways, for example. A discussion about men's emotional expressions should have more focus on how men DO express themselves so that women may understand the signs, because it's almost never going to be "crying" or "breaking down". Some women in these discussions seem to make it about themselves and how they WANT men to express themselves, which is selfish and as I said above, sometimes feels like a weird fetish.
@GubbiGap2 жыл бұрын
Yea and they don't even need to cry to do this - it's more about being able to express your feelings in some way. It doesn't even have to be about his feelings about me - it could be telling me about the shitty co-worker you had to deal with all day or how awesome your new boss is. Opening up and talking about it is so much better and I also agree that it's a very attractive thing.

@zagrych Жыл бұрын
yeah honestly the same thing can go for any generalization. Why is it gender specific, why does it matter its that race, why does it matter its that age person, etc. There are actual conversations and subject matter where it is actually specific to one group. SHE WILL NEVER TRULY BE WET FOR HIM. That was the funniest thing I ever heard
@TiffTiff40772 жыл бұрын
Science nerd time! I really like how Dylan phrased "not every instinct and not every thought needs to be acted upon". It's true that there are a lot of human behaviours that are rooted in basic biology but, generally speaking, these behaviours were selected for evolutionarily during the times of our early ancestors. That means that as societies formed and became more sophistocated, these behaviours were still present genetically but didn't manifest as prominently. They were not as "necessary" and some were phased out socially. For example, behaviours such as preferences for facial symmetry or preferences for partners who are providers, still exist today but are not necessarily the be all, end all in our decision for a partner. So, circling back to Dylan's statement, he's right in saying that not all instincts need to be acted upon since most are artifacts of human biology and evolution that would have previously promoted survival and reproduction in our ancestors. :)

Just think of all those movies (written by men) where unbelievably attractive women has horrible time with equally attractive men and thus learn to go for the goofy ugly guy who was there all along (Like Paul Blart or Superbad). @skayles47162 жыл бұрын
At least for younger women, this is a huge misconception. I mean, it might only apply to hookup culture, but if dating apps taught us one thing, it's that it's pretty much the opposite. Women really _do_ tend to go for the "top percentile" of men, while men in general don't really care what you look like as long as you don't look a total mess. These dynamics tend to shift around in pure "live" settings, as - studies say - men tend to be more visually stimulated, while women tend to be more emotionally stimulated. Except in this day and age, with dating apps being as big as they are, even "live setting" dynamics tend to shift.

I really hate it when these “alpha males” say that females don’t want you to open up to them or be emotional like wtf noooooo!! That’s the absolute worst advise you could give!! We want you to open up to us, we want to know that you feel comfortable with us and trust us enough to be your 100% raw authentic self. If the guy I’m dating doesn’t show his emotional side and doesn’t come to me for support when they need it then it actually really hurts me and damages the relationship, it feels like you don’t trust us and have someone your closer with to go to. Honestly from my personal opinion and from the girls i know, the biggest turn off is all the shit these misogynistic “alpha males” say is the best male and “what we want”. Just be a fucking human being! No gender is better then the other and no person should be made to not have emotions because some assholes view it as “weak”, its actually so much stronger to get the support you need despite society’s sexist standards. Every person is different so obviously people will find different things attractive but that’s exactly why those kind of videos are stupid because there is no “perfect” person that everyone will find attractive, just be yourself and you will find someone that genuinely loves you not this pussy act you put on because you got rejected too many times. It makes me so mad that young guys will watch “alpha males” and believe everything they say and become another misogynistic asshole who is never going to be happy because they suppress normal human emotions and needs. If any guy has read this please don’t take advise from those types of people, just be yourself, be a nice person, treat women like actual people and you’ll meet the right person one day. No matter the gender we are all just humans at the end of the day, there is no reason one gender should be treated any different from the other, we all deserve respect, we all have emotions, we all have different likes and dislikes, just because I’m a female it doesn’t mean I’m the same as every other female and same goes for men, we are all more then our gender so lets stop grouping people into what they should be allowed to do and not do or what they think or don’t think just because of their gender.

I think while this is true, many of the following often leads to men genuinely thinking women don't want men to show feelings. 1. They found bad women. Adding on to this I think it's a case of survivorship bias. Women who are fine with their man expressing themselves and gonna be taken off the dating market sooner, and those who don't will likely have a harder time. 2. Men don't know how to express their vulnerability without overdoing it due to not leveling up that "skill," to say. This leads to the women leaving bc the guy seems emotionally unstable and could possibly be so due to letting it all out but no idea how to contain properly nos 3. All I said matter Jack shit and most women actually don't like it when guys are really vulnerable/weak and bc it's shallow women come to the defense and say it's fine for guys to be vulnerable. I'm more inclined to believe 1 and 2 over 3 but 3 is definitely what many guys in rp spaces think is true
