@@BellWifi Well, they were sometimes fake in the sense of the person definitely has the weird fetish/whatever it is they're addicted to, but a lot of the in public shenanigans and things were staged or exaggerated. While your sentiment is still true, the people were still real people who did have a baseline of whatever the weird topic was, not just like auditioned actors for a COMPLETELY fake topic. (Think like as an example the lovedoll guys who open their home to owning 100's of lovedolls worth 10k+ each filling the entire place. Less feasible for TLC to have invested all that and made it that real for a bit, but they may make him bring it to the family dinner which he normally wouldn't do.)

Cake Boss is the worst. Met him at a baking convention in vegas and he showed up hung over to a decorating demonstration he was supposed to perform. He did absolutely nothing edifying. Talked about his restaurant opening in Caesar's Palace or something, put a cupcake on a stick and that was it before wandering off, probably to nurse his hangover. I bought a copy of his book to give to my professional baking professor as a joke. He's a joke.

About Dr. Pimple popper: I have DEBILITATING OCD that presents itself as severe skin picking. To the point where if I give in to urges I can spend 5-6 pulling myself apart in the bathroom. Dr. Sandra Lee was one of my first exposures to skin afflictions and such, and was one of the first to to make me realize that I don’t look like a monster and that the skin doesn’t make the human being. That it’s okay to not be okay with your skin. That it’s acceptable to be uncomfy with it. That I’m not a freak, it’s common to have issues with grooming behaviors like it, and that it’s not my fault. Love her much. I healed a lot emotionally and physically watching her Snapchat stories. Nowadays, I have only 2 active sites on my whole entire body and access to a dermatologist who reminds me A LOT of her in attitude and cadence. The first doctor of any kind to have helped me improve noticeably. I have relapses, but I no longer experience excruciating pain from trying to go about basic daily activities.

i like the idea of having a fun funeral to help families cope with the grief. My family always have happy funerals that are more like a celebration of life than a sad depressing one (I'm from mexico) . It really helps you not be as sad tbh

For years now I've stopped referring to it as TLC and instead, THEC: The Human Exploitation Channel. Side shows may have been outlawed decades ago, but "reality tv" is the loophole, and TLC absolutely dominates the market

I think it's quite possible that the people working for TLC may have actually forgotten what TLC stands for. They also don't understand its traditional meaning of tender loving care considering how they happily treat people just to get and episode ie series to contain as much drama as possible.

the funeral ones 😭 they just do way too much. like my grandma’s funeral was ‘normal’ in a sense but we tied in a lot of her native american heritage (she was 3/4 registered active Ponca, we had a native pastor, passages read in Ponca and a Ponca song). Otherwise it was just kinda ‘normal’, in a lovely funeral home with so many flowers, pictures and a beautiful casket; just an overall wonderful ceremony which i think celebrated her life amazingly.

As someone planning to go into mortuary science I figured with how quickly they do these funerals and how they handled empty caskets that the remains were not handled with care. Also in the game show one I can not imagine standing that close to a casket for more then a bit as while embalming stops the decomp smell and the decomp process, it has its own unique smell that may be a bit different to people who have never smelt it.

To be fair TLC hasn’t actually stood for the learning channel for more than two decades. It stared pivoting away from educational content in the late 90’s. They dropped the learning channel as their moniker and are just TLC. I don’t even know if TLC stands for anything anymore.
