Totally Not Mark episode 105 is one of the most emotional episodes of this tournament and one of the best. The episode after have been meh so the fact that you liked those more and talk about story boarding and telling is weird. But hey if you found it amazing then so be it but it is just odd that so many people have called the episode you said was bad to be an amazing episode. Not only did we get development, fan service, good animation, logic and to top it off the emotional ending we also got roshi being a bad ass old fucker. I am sorry but I think you need to rewatch that episode my friend.

I'm so glad someone else was super impressed by episode 107. The whole time I was watching, I was genuinely surprised that the pacing and storyboarding was from an episode of super and not a theatrical film. Frost's flashback to the conversation with champa, the transition back to the tournament, the tension with the mafuba, and the explanation of how many fighters are left all gave off a professional and high budget vibe that made the episode one of my favourites so far.

Another fantastic video you have put up here. While I still don't like Super when it comes to actual storytelling, I 100% think that it has grown into its own when it comes to animation. It look consistently great now and its storyboarding has improved significantly. When I watch Super now, it's mostly to see how the people at Toei (or whoever they're outsourcing it too) go about bringing their own styles and animation quirks into the show. Seeing Shimanuki is always great, even though he hasn't gotten that many interesting cuts recently, I'm hoping he comes back and come back strong. Maybe he'll pop up in the special next week. Who knows. Also I love seeing animators break from Yamamuro's designs, and not even because they're visually uninteresting and stale, but because whenever they do, they're usually able to go the extra mile when it comes to incredibly clean looking animation. I miss the days of Nakatsuru and his time as a character designer so much but I'll be able to live with it as long as these animators flex their muscles and try to go around Yamamuro's designs from time to time. Anyways great video, can't wait for your next one!.. Whenever that happens lmao

As usual, great animation breakdown. Up to now the ToP has been decent, with some remarkable animation flashes. The biggest disappointment was Karasawa's entry, which looked rushed.

Comments: 3:09 I detested this moment plot-wise, but I loved the amount of choreography packed into that small cut. You have to watch it half a dozen times to catch everything that happens in that small frame of time. It's the kind of scene that's pure CHAOS and I love that about it. 5:57 I LOVE that cut! It gives me the eerie Future 17 vibe. It's so unsettling in the best way. 14:27 The opening for the episode was fantastic. Theatrical, even. 16:23 This is why the two-shaded characters work SO much better than three-shaded. They can look just as good while being easier to animate. Plus, they don't run the risk of looking too "artificial" or "plastic-ish". 16:47 Seeing Goku with only two shades in his hair instead of three (for some god-forsaken reason) is a breath of fresh air.

Great breakdown once again. I love how you don't just do technical/stylistic breakdowns but also touch on overall composition and atmosphere. There have been a lot of shots and stills that have been singularly striking in this arc. Just curious, what about episode 100 was so egregious that it killed your interest completely? I understand one could view the episode cynically, but I wasn't really *disgusted* by the Broly homages and the somewhat nonsensical plot of the episode, per se. I'm just curious how one episode, however bad it admittedly was, caused your investment to tank like that.

The odd Uchiyama episode aside, the actual drawing quality in GT is far more consistent than DB, Z, and Super by a pretty large margin. Its actual animation (and storyboards by extension) are quite bad, though. I can think of maybe one or two fights that are actually interestingly framed or animated above average. Everything is just... blah. Super's far beyond that, that's for sure.

Super is lasting longer than GT and so is it's cuts, is it fair to compare?

GT only had the Seigasha trio and Shida as reliable animation source. Super has Tate, Higashide, Manabe, Tu, Miuma, Shimanuki, Otsuka, Ono's team, Nikaido, Takahashi and Shida. So higher possibility of producing better animation and choreographies.

AnimeAjay One thing GT definitely has over Super though (that has nothing to do with animation but I guess something to do with art) is interesting locations where the fights actually take place. GT has the turbine field where Vegeta fought Baby Gohan and Goten, that mountain region where Baby Goten fought Gohan, the amusement park where Goku fought Yi Xing Long, that mountain area where Goku fought Super 17. Heck even that highway where 17 and 18 fought. Planet Tuffle was pretty cool too. Super only has like 1 or 2 interesting locations where these fights take place. That mountainous area where Future Trunks Galick Gunned Goku Black into that mountain is definitely one of them. It may just be me but even though the fights themselves were pretty bland the interesting areas they fought in definitely stick in my mind years after watching GT. I find it pretty interesting how something as seemingly insignificant as where a fight takes place can leave such a lasting impact on me.

I think it's because of the art quality whiplash. While Tate's character movement is fantastic and he's been getting better over time thanks to Super's scheduling loosening up, his earlier Super work tended to be VERY rough. For a viewer who isn't familiar with different animation styles, Tate's style tends to jump out. I'd even say it sometimes jumps out more than Uchiyama and Ebisawa since Super is in a higher quality than Z. I suppose that's why it's easier to notice. I also really disliked his early battle damage. It would just be spots on someones face and body, and just made me go, "seriously, Super?" I like how he handled the Buu and 17 episodes a lot better in this regard (and art-wise).

For me, it just felt like Super jumped the shark. There's subtly rehashing ideas and then there's literally bringing Broli into Super, right down to repeating Goku's name over and over. Absolutely could not stand it. Felt like such blatant pandering, especially since we'd just had an interview that literally said, "We know Broli is really popular in the west!". Horrendous. The last thing I ever wanted to see in Super. Totally destroyed my faith in the show for quite a while.

For me, as someone whose never seen any DBZ movie besides BoG and Resurrection 'F (I literally just became a fan through Kai in January), I more enjoyed the episode for what I thought was fun spectacle, but I can see why the whole Broly pandering would severely anger some one.
