Opel Manta A '71 - Exciting Cooperation for Paint and Protection | Paint Preperation Series

Hi everyone! Protecting and painting a car is notan easy task so I wanted to expand my knowledge and give you guys more content to help you with your projects. I am happy to announce a cooperation with acompany Forum Colorum based in Slovenia that offered to help me ensure my Manta is going to get the best protection with the best results - working together with companies like Standox and Mirka. Their technical advisor has helped me with tips and tricks, explaning to me different approaches and I'd like to pass this information to you because we all want our projects to be as good as possible. In the future we will deal with the selection of the right type of primer for your project, filler and techniques, sealer and basically preparing the car for a respray.
In the future we will make a whole series of videos with stripping the paint of and protecting bare metal all the way to preparing for paint. If you'd like to see something specific or have questions please leave a comment so we can get as much answers as we can and help each others projects. The car is progressing a bit faster than I can put out videos and I have put the shell in primer and did videos on it. For seam sealing and stuff that comes later, leave questions or tips so we can make better videos.

Just remember.....If the paint has any problems, it is not the end of the world. Let it dry several days, wet sand it down and try again. I wish you luck and have fun. I love the whole process of doing the body work and painting it. Then you put every thing back in place and you can stand back and tell people you did it yourself.

Exactly! Paint correction is always possible but I will aim at the best result possible but some will probably be needed anyways. Glad you are enjoying the series!

Hi there! You will use epoxy primer on whole body shell? Which color you chose? Flame Red or Cardinal Red? Did you use zinc in spray on some areas? Iam restoring two Mantas A.

I used 2K epoxy on fuel tank and axle components, the body will be (is) covered in wash primer then 2K etch primer for better adhesion since itnwas stripped to bare metal so I could make a foundation that bites into the metal and dodn't have to build on existing layers - in that case I'd absolutely use epoxy! ☺️ I decited to go with original color - Cardinal red 508. I have used zinc spray and weld through primer from Invento AG since the primer color in spray is resistant to 600°C and that is more than a lot of zinc sprays. I have noticed it welds better with it as well, zinc spray tend to make welding a bit more messy. Hope this helps! Thanks for following the project 🙂 have a nice weekend!

Take a look at Opels catalogues od the paint they have offered with Kadetts, Rekords and Mantas. I am sure you'll be able to coose a suitable for you. Perhaps even ask to mix a spray can and try it on a piece of primered metal and see it in the sun. 🙂
