For structural stuff, even if the OEM panel is so rusted you can't replicate it, the least one can do is put a few breaks and beads in it to get strength out of it. That's why I'm addicted to watching you work sheet metal Steve, your experience, even if stuff is completely gone you've done enough of most of the usually badly rusting makes & cars that you can replicate it anyway. It's the way you put that OEM touch, doesn't matter if it's budget or not, the steel you put in is a match. Structural strength aside, the owner of this Manta is probably very happy with the performance increase too, now that it doesn't have 30 metric tons of filler on it 😁

To be fair that one was in better condition than some of the newer ones I used to see where I grew up, a lad I knew had a new white gte he kept it for 3 years and by the time he sold it there was more brown from rust than white paint. Sorry forgot to add the way you make repair panels is an amazing skill, great work.

Nice job 🙂 I had a 1978 Manta 2.0S Berlina in the same color as this one. I converted it to a 2.0GTE with engine, Tranmision and interior kit. Then I painted it yellow. I've regretted that ever since

This is a good channel. Entertaining, and good commonsense advice. For example, I didn’t know fibreglass bondo was waterproof. That might explain a couple of issues I’ve had with my projects 😂.

Had a yellow caviler coupe with a vinyl roof a 1976 in the 70s then a white gte manta it was a 1984 later on loved the both of them

You got off lucky with that one cars of that day knew how to rust I had a A series 1.9sr and it had had a bad floor repair and used to fill up with water behind the drivers seat
