The path seems open now to build Star Wars-level humanoid robots (possibly even better than droids like C-3PO or K-2SO) very soon. With the intelligence of GPT-5 (even GPT-4o would be great)? This unit will translate dozens of languages fluently, converse with you fluently, answer complex questions fluently and at a level you request in terms of complexity. Finally, it will perform complex tasks fluently. I don't understand anyone being jaded about something like this, it's absolutely mind-boggling.

So, as a mom of both human and furry babies, 95% of cleaning is picking crap off the floor because that's where these babies live and you know, gravity leaves things. I find it frustrating that the height of robot technology is that they can precariously bend over half way and pick up an empty backpack. Until they can reach under the couch to retrieve a toy, pick up the 50 Lego pieces off the floor, clean slime out of the carpet or figure out where your toddler left her sippy cup of milk so you don't find it a week later, what's the point? In fact I would take a robot that only took care of the ground to 2 feet only, just to save my poor back. Maybe actually ask potential users of the technology what they need instead of having 25 year grad students make assumptions. I don't need a robot to make me espresso or load the dishwasher. That's the easy stuff.

I'm somewhat skeptical of this one. I keep thinking its a teleoperated robot. There is probably a guy in some exoskeleton suit that controls how the robot moves. Apparently this robot works off of tele-operation (the robot iscontrolled by a human with a headset and hand-held controllers remotely) and that's a core component of how the robot functions, especially for the earlier stages. For anyone interested in learning more, go check out the YT video "I Lived With a Humanoid Robot for 48 Hours" (By S3), there is a lot of talk in the comments about it. I was really hype at first but hearing it was operated by a person makes much more sense, even as cool as it looks lol

I do expect this to continue until we have something like the Star Wars variety of droids for whatever tasks we want them for, including personal care and assistance. It's a good observation that since our environments are designed for humans that a humanoid robot will be able to navigate them well and be better accepted in the environment by humans. Some people will certainly prefer a more utilitarian approach, for example the robot shopping carts for making deliveries and perhaps eventually shopping in stores with/for us. And I'm sure someone will make an R2-D2 style droid if for no other reason than nostalgia although I do expect those droids to be rare because their form factor doesn't work that well.
