@plantemor2 ай бұрын
You guys actually get it wrong with the dwarves taking in snow white and her doing a kind thing for them in return. What actually happens is that the animals take her to the cabin and Snow White, out of compassion and humility, decides to clean the cabin for the dwarves in the hopes that they will let her stay AND because she thinks they are little children who have lost their mother and are therefore aimless in life. The dwarves let her stay when they learn that the queen is out to get her and they don't want her to get hurt. The fact that she cleaned the house was just a bonus on top and became how she earned her keep - even though the dwarves didn't think she should do anything because she is a royal princess. She insists because she is a humble person who doesn't think of herself as above anybody. Not even the animals of the forest are above her. She sees everyone as her equal. This is why the old movie is so good. It is these continuous acts of kindness and selflessness from both Snow White, the animals and the dwarves towards one another that makes the story so beautiful. It is why you cry when the dwarves hold Snow White's funeral. Because she stepped into their lives and too the initiative to make their lives better without anyone expecting her to.

In the original cartoon, Snow White assumed the cottage belonged to seven children, based on the size of the chairs. I think that's part of the reason they scrapped having Snow White clean the house for them in the new one--because she was taking on a motherly role for the poor orphaned children she presumed lived there. Even worse than housework, THE MESSAGE will not tolerate women acting motherly. It also serves as an interesting contrast that even though Snow White assumed she was dealing with children, she still respected the fact that it was their house. "I know! We'll clean the house and surprise them! Then maybe they'll let me stay."

Completely ignored the source material "Why did our movie fail?"
@petriew20182 ай бұрын
the weird thing is i don't think they completely ignored the source material.... they just didn't have the 'testicular fortitude' to actually adapt it Everything in this movie feels like an extremely watered down, 'safe for work' version of something out of Borderlands. The characters vaguely have the same motivations, they just never bother to flesh them out or really make them meaningful. The world looks superficially correct, but without any real flair. The body count is high, but there's absolutely no blood. The main villain has the same motivation as Handsome Jack.... though as the most bland, generic movie villain imaginable because Handsome Jack was too edgy.... So you wind up with this weird slurry where the fans of the game are never allowed to forget the source material being imitated, and non-fans just have no idea what's going on, it's just light and noise. It's this bizarre middle ground between being 'it's own thing' and being a straight adaptation, which just leads to failure on two levels and no defense for either. This movie i found legitimately baffling. The casting, the writing, the direction, the action. Every single creative decision is just confounding on the most basic of levels. How does something actually be this safe, but at the same time this utterly repugnant?

The way I interpreted the mirror dynamic between the Queen and Snow White was similar to The Little Platoon. The Queen and Snow White were equally beautiful but the scales tipped toward Snow White because she possessed inner beauty as well while the Queen did not. This aspect is reflected in their deeds and actions as the story progresses. It's also something the Queen can change but doesn't because she's so focused on the looks aspect alone. The way Disney is marketing this movie makes it seem like they've misinterpreted every possible moral in this story and replaced it with nonsensical ones.

Careful. That might remind people of a certain movie that did that, that Disney wanted to memory hole even BEFORE they went off the rails with the politics. ;) But yeah, there are a surprising amount of older movies that used hand drawn animation to basically do the current day "actors + CGI 'actor' that doesn't actually exist" thing except, you know, they used it to tell a story, not to replace it. Who Framed Roger Rabbit is one of my all time favorites. The animated characters really feel like they are part of the world, rather than just something flashy to hide the flaws in the writing. Not to mention that movie somehow managed to get both Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny in the same scene which is quite amazing.

I even mentioned how much I love Who Framed Roger Rabbit, so yes, I do believe people will think of that first. @ereini0n Neither Songs of the South (the memory holed movie I joked about) nor Who Framed Roger Rabbit are recent ones. JJ is gonna make a billion mystery boxes about where the portals lead and we'll never know the answer because he'll get distracted and make a billion more portals. The fact the movie ditches the unofficial beaty contest of the original - in which Snow didn't see herself as part of anyway - to Snow being POWER-HUNGRY in this one, I think says a lot about Trollywood.

The problem with the Simpson's Movie is that while the showrunners were focused on making the movie, their TV show's quality really suffered for a couple seasons. Terminator Salvation could have been awesome, but then Christian Bale arrived with his own writing team and ruined the original script to make it more about him. The original script had the cyborg wearing John Connor's face after he died and becoming the leader of the rebellion, while Connor wasn't very effective as a leader and was mostly a voice on the radio to inspire those still alive. It was almost as bad as Will Smith coming onto the set of Hancock with his own writers to destroy what had been up until then one of the most sought after scripts by studios for years.

I've been on Facebook and Twitter ever since 2007 with the same accounts that I still have now. Somehow, (knocks on wood) I've never been hacked or shut down or anything. Lucky me. I've tried some of the alternative social media platforms, but haven't been that impressed with them. Yeah, we really haven't had any big advancements or changes worth thinking about ever since about 2007. If they want to make old actors look younger, why don't they just film with SD cameras and show it at Standard Definition (not HD). I can't stand it in movies, TV shows, videogames, tabletop games, books, etc. when characters aren't scared or worried about the danger they are supposed to be in. That just ruins the whole thing. Everything else in the thing could be great but if there are supposedly scary scenes but the characters don't seem to be scared by them, and especially when things happen that ought to kill someone but no one dies, not even a background character, or when someone does die but the main characters don't seem to care, it becomes unintentionally funny. SnarkyJay is right. I've seen cosplayers who looked in person like they are cell shaded videogames. Why a Hollywood movie couldn't figure that out with costumes in a movie that cost a ton of money is baffling. In another video, someone said that SnarkyJay might be a better choice for Snow White than Zeleger. I agree. It would be so cool to see a young person I knew was a genuine person with opinions I can agree with actually starring in a movie or TV show these days. Jyn Erso and Rogue One is the only good thing Disney Lucasfilm has done and probably ever will do. I'm actually considering selling my sequel DVDs (which I bought out of a silly idea of wanting to complete the saga set of DVDs I have) but I'll keep my Rogue One DVD and action figures (I still think K2SO and Chriuit Imwe are awesome characters). I grew up a massive Star Wars fan ever since 1977, but Disney has managed to ruin modern Star Wars to the point that I cancelled my Disney+ account after The Mandilorian went to crap in season two and won't buy anything new that is Star Wars, not even drink cups, anymore. I won't even consider watching the next Disney Star Wars movie even if all the reviewers claim it is great. I just feel betrayed by what they've done to Star Wars now. I'm with Lance on adaptations. I just don't understand why showrunners seem to be determined to ignore the really good novels, comics etc. that have come out and decide instead to 'reimagine' the I.P. and change everything. A big part of why I can't stand modern Star Wars. Hey! The Critical Doggo woke up and came to see us! Great moment in an already great video.

Kennedy, after her most recent failure in the Star Wars Universe, was asked to retire in order to save face, rather than being fired.

2007 was the last great year for exceptional movies… No country for old men, Assassination of Jesse James (massively underrated) The Bourne Ultimatum.. list goes on. Seriously the 00s was the last decade that had an actual cultural era to it. After 2010 with the IPhone and social media coming out, EVERYTHING went global. And it’s been stale ever since. Absolute truth.

Lol I typed this about 3 mins into the vid, then Drinker said exactly what I wrote. Confirmed my opinion. *sighs in nostalgia*

It would have been cooler to see 7 little people doing press and the red carpet and showing they are just normal folks.

Being as she's established herseld as "Roy Skoywalka" I suppose the upcoming Rey film is the tenth part of the 9-part "Skoywalka Sawgah"

I remember the first announcement of borderlands in Gameinformer. It was hyper realistic, and they wisely changed it because they felt it would be a terrible fit for the games humor. I guess they didn't pass that note along.

To answer the question of is there any Disney film that could use a modern remake, only one comes to mind: The Black Cauldron. The film is based on a book that is very loosely adapted from the book. Not to mention the Black Cauldron is the 2nd book in the Chronicles of Prydain, so it’s weird they made a film in the middle of a book series as a standalone film. Do the book series justice.

Little Platoon, to help you out, the answer to your question is NO. The Little Mermaid did reach break even at the box office, it's actual production budget plus the marketing meant it missed the mark by a wide margin - it was a box office flop. Between End Game and Inside Out 2 Disney did not have any films that weren't box office flops (even Doctor Strange MoM was a flop and it took 955 million dollars at the box office)

A Studio like "the Asylum" which is known for their comedy takes on big movies, should make a series where they take the piss on big budget Disney movies, pointing out the nonsense they do with their "modern takes" on classic movies. (Like the Dwarves kicking out Snowwhite when she ordered them to clean their own house after a day of work in the mines)
