I was an extra on the set of the 1997 BBC production of Ivanhoe when some foul greasy 3rd AD was treating us like barely sentient dirt. Christopher Lee clocked what was going on, took him aside, and had a little chat with him. I have no idea what he said, but the 3ad came crawling back looking like a chided schoolboy, and from then on it was "Please and thank you" from him - which made the production go much more smoothly. A proper gentleman, was Sir Christopher.

Kind of disappointing hearing Drinker be dismissive of Terrifier when Mauler and him both praised Planet Terror. Terrifier is just a throwback to the low budget indie horror movies of the 70's and 80's like the Troma films or USA Up All Night kind of fare. David Howard Thorton's comedic timing and over the top antics, combined with each successive movie giving him more to work with, made 3 a really fun movie.

@generaIsod It's no worse than cult classics like Dead Alive, Toxic Avenger or any Fullci or Argento films. @KlickorАй бұрын
I think the context matter a lot. If someone go out of the way to race swap it is bad but if you have a bunch of characters in a modern society where the actual race doesn't matter it is a different thing and you have an actor that would otherwise fit the personality of the character. Hermione being black or not have no impact on the story. Unlike Ron and Harry that come from Wizard families Hermione doesn't. She is a muggle born with a background that could as well have been a blank piece of paper. Especially if you make a new HP movie set in the current year and not 3 decades ago it even increases the verisimilitude to swap a few characters for those that haven't read the books. It is one of the few cases where it doesn't really matter one way or the other. Like having Nick Fury played by Samuel L Jackson or Kingpin by Duncan. If they cast someone talented that is. If they do it for political reasons and cast someone like the actor that played OSHA in the Acolyte then it is clearly not ok.

It's not noticeable when the IP is clearly shit like Fallout was and like Star Wars and anything Disney releases is but when something like Penguin or Andor gets called out that everyone in the EFAP circle likes, they will probably never have a discussion about it, which is I doubt they will have Reaper on. Will anybody hire that actress again? I gather that she insisted the official poster have her full face. It's indisputable that the impact of the poster was reduced by that. She's made some sensible statements and some not-so-sensible ones. It doesn't seem especially productive to try and pigeonhole her into one side or the other of the political divide, and maybe that's for the best. It's funny, though. I was in high school back when she made her comments about Dumbledore and Hermione, and I remember most people just kind of rolling their eyes and going on with their days. It probably helped that the Harry Potter story had basically wrapped up by then, but the general response was pretty lukewarm. I don't think it led to any major boycotts or protests or media attacks on fans. All in all, it was pretty tame compared to the way similar controversies tend to flare up now.
@pointeddown2 ай бұрын
politics use to be less extreme. New minds are unwilling to listen to either side and that creates a lot of tension that feels a bit immature and unnecessary. Not agreeing should be ok and a more civil discussion should take place. With the spread of information being so fast these days it starts a snowball or viral effect that triggers a mob mentality and off we go.

regarding the scariest movie I watched as a kid. I would have to say Frankenstein from 1931 with Boris Karloff. I was 5 or 6 years old when it came to Swedish Television in the beginning of the 70's. All kinds of horror movies was banned back in the 60's and it was not until 71 or maybe 72 they started showing a bunch of old scary movies from the 30, 40's and so on. Back then there was nothing modern on Swedish TV you had to go to the movie theaters to see anything new, and at the time I was not old enough. It wasn't until I was 15 (1980) I could start going to the movies to see classics like The Shining, Friday the 13.th and The Fog.

I remember the right hating JK Rowling because of making Dumbledore gay and hinting at making other changes to please the wokies. It's when she didn't agree with the trans narrative that things went off. Everyone villainizes her without realizing all the harassment she's endured. People have tried to cancel her, they've tried to jail her, they tried to destroy her books and legacy, they've called for her death, all because she didn't support the trans side of things and didn't feel safe about having trans people in women's private spaces. She's a monster of their own making, but the mob is fickle and relentless and as a whole, incredibly stupid and lead by base emotions.

Incidentally, I just finished reqwatching the FOX and Disney X-Men movies. I like them well enough, though I tend to think of them as two separate timelines because of how retconning and contradictory they are between the 'McAvoy/Fassbender' and the 'Stewart/McKellen' versions. Bad guys dying in one are good guys and live in the other; people disappear during one and reappear Alexander Trask becomes a tiny white man... I'd completely forgotten the best Daredevil was in for 5 seconds with that "I'm a really good lawyer" line they repurposed (although understandable, all things considering the character) for the upcoming rebott or whatever. I haven't watched Echo nor Shit-Hulk, so I think I'll be fine checking that one out. Jennifer Lawrence was a good Jennifer Lawrence but the worst Mystogue, and that "X-Women" was every definition of nonsense. Firstly, "X-men" means "X-people", as in "human with an additional X-chromosome". Secondly, Who just singlehandedly made sure they COULD rescue that space crew at all? A MAN. Who saved Jean out in space? A MAN. I'm not saying women don't do anything, because that's untrue, but the ironic part is, Mystique here claims something we never get to see, even during all the missions we DO get to see, and even by their latest mission because this point she's proven wrong. Such a laughably inept comment to make.

@sgnox7781Ай бұрын
To be fair he makes a good point he is just awfull at making it. Penguin is fairly bad at portraying mob characters, they are too soft, way too much arguing against each other, very little respect especially to people higher ranked then you, a pretty out of place sidekick character as well. Its a entertaining show with a lot of good aspect but you need to drop your suspension of disbelief for it. Its pretty clear if you watch and compare this to better mob movies/series like sopranos, godfather, scarface etc. I like the show i think it has a lot of things going for it but it fails in that aspect, and is far from masterpiece some panelist make it out to be.
