When the novel crowbars in a moral relativistic message into a preexisting story Maguire didn't even write, turns all the previously heroic characters into idiots or psychopaths even more evil than the original Wicked Witch ever was, terrible movies like Maleficent or Cruella are easily downstream from such a source.

I am so tired of Chris’s rose-tinted glasses analysis of films today. He has been wrong on so many occasions because “X film/franchise in the past was so integral to my childhood” he thought it was great. And yet, he always manages to be wrong. I grew up in the same context as him: movie nights with the family because TV aired films like Wizard of Oz every so often. I first saw Wizard of Oz in the same venue as him, and yet it was never something that has or will get me to go see Wicked.

Look at the pictures of the crew of game developers who created the world of video games in the late 80s and 90s: the geekiest and nerdiest game players you could find around. They made the games they wanted to play, and everyone wanted to play them. I remember the jokes about Hollywood producers who had screening rooms built next to their offices and spent a third of their working time watching movies and another third reading about the world of cinema: they knew everything there was to know about the history of cinema and some. Nowadays the statements of the equivalents are disarming: "I don't like video games" and "I don't like cinema"

I thought Dune Prophecy episode 1 was fine. Nothing special. But I disagree that the show should be about the Butlerian Jihad. While that was a very original concept when Herbert wrote the first book, bringing it to screen now would ironically seem like a re-hash of countless sci-fi stories where humanity is battling an evil AI. The Bene-Geserit are actually a much more compelling thing to chronicle given how big of a role they play in the Dune-verse. I just wonder if this series will suffer from the fact that there’s not going to be any masculine hero archetypes, and probably very few people you want to root for in general.

After Gladiator, it is implied that they rebuild the dream that was Rome. Continuing the story in any way that doesn’t have this ruins the first film. I love Rome and I’d love to see a film dramatizing the lives of Caracalla and Geta, but if that is a Gladiator sequel, it sucks because it ruins the first one. If Maximus died to restore the republic, Caracalla and Geta would not be emperors. This movie should not exist and I won’t watch it.

I don't really get the hate for Generations. I've been a Star Trek fan since I was a kid in the 70s, and I thought it was a decent handover to Next Gen. Plus, Kirk got to die heroically TWICE. The only thing I really hated was Picard's weird 17th century family, they were nauseating. Kirk outplays Picard in every scene, because he's a fucking Chad and I love him. The Klingon sisters were fun as usual, I love Malcolm McDowell. The Nexus was an interesting sci-fi concept, and the Enterprise crash was phenomenal, as was the research station being obliterated. I didn't know anyone hated it until I saw comments online. Oh well, people are entitled to their opinions.

Mike was 100% holding back. Sure Jake may have more stamina because of his youth but Tyson is definitely the stronger fighter and he's legit crazy from growing up on the streets. He may not be in his prime but there's still some strength there and you could tell he was pulling his punches. If this was a real fight Mike Tyson is demolishing him. The only way Joke Paul would have a chance is if Tyson lost his balance or he kept dodging and avoiding to the point of wearing him out. Mike just wanted a bag though so he played nice.
