That question about why the writers don't get paid more reminded me of a scene from a movie that was all about the early days of cinema; if I remember rightly, it starred Ryan O'Neil as the writer/producer/director and Burt Reynolds as his star. When a bunch of fans turned up they asked O'Neil which films he'd been in and he told them he wrote them, they wandered off to find someone actually famous. I think that pretty much says it all.

Just wondering how you choose which movies to review. Also glad that you had a review of The Crow as it's my favorite comic book movie. If you are looking for animes to watch I recommend Ghost in the Shell (1992), Akira, Ninja Scrolls, and Patlabor 2. I noticed there wasn't a review of The Boys s3. While it leaned left vs being neutral, i.e. poking fun at everyone, I thought it was still fun. Just wondering what you would like to see from s4 to get it back to a drinker's recommend. Huge fan of your reviews and keep doing great work. Congrats on the KS movie and can't wait to see it.

When I noticed him I tried to search my phone to take a selfie with him but when I found it Drinker had already been lost in the crowd and then the wedding was over and I was cleaning up a place with my co-workers. That sucked but atleast I got a chance to yell "Fuck you!" and show a middle finger to a co-worker who I hate so that was nice.

35:28 Sadly, I think the reliability factor of a good film now hinges on the Producer. Not to say there aren't amazing directors out there, it's just that most Producers prefer to take the reigns themselves and refuse to give directors the room they need to actually direct. These days, you can't have a good movie without a good producer, but you can have bad movies with good directors.

I think that's because Rory McCann is Scottish. People of Scottish and/or Irish descent can swear better than anyone because they put such feeling into it. Funny that you brought up Jurassic Park. I was thinking about it the other day. I have been very irritated lately by movies that do not follow the books, but for some reason I gave this one a pass. It is very different than the book. It may have been because I saw the movie first, but I think it's a good example of how forgiving fans can be if you still make a Greta, fun to watch film.

As a Dune fan I accepted long ago that changes will need to be made when adapting it to film. but I think that fans will accept massive changes to the source material IF and ONLY IF the adaptation stays true to the *spirit* of the source material. That's not a quantitative statement but I think it's true none the less.

@@genmaicha.lapsang As someone who's read the Dune books I hold no illusions of it being faithfully adapted to the big screen. You'd need to have a movie for each book and even then that'd be pushing it. As for JP, it's a common theme that's been around for decades to make little changes that only book readers would spot. Hell, Rambo was guilty of this since in the book he died, but in the movie he lived.

It would be good for you guys to get to watch something *good* on occasion, and obviously you can't watch everything, but I am really curious what you would make of some of the stories, coming from a writer's perspective. I hated Jurassic Park - yes, I know I am in the minority - because I read the book right before I saw it. The book just had so much more meat than the movie! It probably wasn't fair to judge the movie that way since I realize there is so much more you can put into a book. But I felt that the whole point of the novel - the sheer horror of the dinosaurs getting out and procreating - and also the sense of systems of chaos getting out of control and the hubris of humans thinking we can control them - was totally lost in the movie. I think I would have been happy if some of those themes had been in Jurassic park. Of course I haven't seen Jurassic world but it seems those movies are much worse than Jurassic park so I guess I haven't missed anything.
