@17:33 Kids movies, last film I went to the cinema to see was Iron man 1, before that Madagascar 2. After a month in the jungle while in the legion it was lunch and planteur cocktails on Place de palmistes in Cayenne, we all decided to go to the cinema and catch the next one. Six legionnaires, highly trained killers for the French state, in the middle of a cinema full of kids and their mothers for a Sunday matinee. We laughed the whole way through, but the crash scene still cracks me up. 'Rico! Manual!'. Kids movies, when they're great they're awesome lol

Usually my biggest issue with most zombie stories is similar... Within 1 year, 95% of all survivors would be military units. I was serving on Fort Hood TX the morning of September 11th. Within 30 mins, the largest military post in the US was FULLY locked down. Also worth mentioning that that MASSIVE post was an "open post" on September 10th. Literally no security checks to get on or off. THIRTY MINUTES ... No one on. No one off. By noon, troops, weapons, ammo, food, gear, vehicles and everything else you need to fight a war of any kind, were fully mobilized. A viral outbreak would be treated the same way. This whole idea that most survivors would be house wives, convenient store clerks and ol Ray Ray from the corner is one of the worst tropes in movies. If anything survived for any period of time, it would be military installations and anyone lucky to be on one.

Shooting is a highly perishable skill. I imagine consistent shooting practice isn't feasible, both due to limited ammo and the fact that infected and/or FEDRA would hear if he did do a lot of shooting, depending on where he did it. The people I know who can consistently make solid hits on a moving target's head while also moving while affected by the adrenaline of their life being in danger ALL shoot well over 1k rounds a month. That's a skill very few people have and consistently maintain. Doing so as a smuggler in a QZ is not feasible.
@johnleonard9102

This is spot on. I'm in the Navy right now, and we don't really get trained on how to use handguns. They just have us go to the range and test how good we are without any incentive to get us to improve. We only use the M9 pistol, we stand in one spot, and our targets don't move; plenty of people still fail the test and have to come back within a week to try it again. Now factor in all of the things you mentioned like adrenaline and movement, and you'll find that hitting your target is extremely difficult.
@samwallaceart288
@samwallaceart288 Жыл бұрын
I remember something about how in active combat they don't think in terms of hitting individual targets; they think in terms of covering fire over general areas to strategically push the enemy back. I like Joel being a mixed aim when flustered, so long as they stay consistent with it. If Joel spontaneously does a quickdraw trick-shot with just a pistol that singlehandedly gets them out of a pinch,it'll retroactively hurt this scene. The way I see it, Joel missing the first shot is just then keeping consistent with how all the enemies in the game have a flubbed "warning shot" that gives you a chance to take cover before the real damage happens.

Joel was a hard man who had been through a lot and his journey with Ellie had developed, slowly, into a paternal unspoken love. Knowing what happens to Joel and how it affected people that adored the game, what would making him more appealing to the new audience achieve? With this in mind I think it's far more likely they'll try to undermine Joel's character in some way to make it easier to accept what eventually happens, otherwise they risk history repeating itself.

A great “Zombie Infection” idea is the Flood from Halo. Highly regenerative, very difficult to kill, can spread across a planet in 48 hours. Plus when infected, the host slowly loses their memories and sense of self over a period of time while they’re body is being controlled by the Flood Spore, including using weapons, ships, vehicles, etc. It’s horrifying in the novels getting the perspective of those infected. And a truly spooky concept.

To make Zombies work from a narrative perspective: 1) as you said have the humans win. "Fido" did this also a lot of "Resident Evil" games do this too. 2) The spread of infection has to be fast and they have to turn fast...the zombies themselves don't have to actually be fast though. 3) Set it in historical periods like "Kingdom" (1600 Korea) and "La Revolution," (1700s France) did 4) Use more unique zombies "La Revolution" has them retain all of their sentients but they regenerate, have heightened senses and crave human flesh.

7:28 Not sure a grenade would set anything on fire. Afaik normal explosive does a non-fire-based chemical reaction to create a shtload of gas and do a blast, but that's all there is to it, it's a strong blast of air. No flames. It would do jack to fuel on the ground, you need a source of flames or sparks. So a flare or whatever fire starting equipment
@malthael966
@malthael966 Жыл бұрын
No sir. There is a detonator, and explosive powder inside a frag grenade to create the boom that rockets all the shrapnel around it. But there would still be sparks and flame at were it detonated. @malthael966

@marcogenovesi8570
@marcogenovesi8570 Жыл бұрын
@@malthael966 The detonator is not fire-based, it is usually pressure-based and the explosive is usually TNT which does not do sparks or flames as the reaction is too fast. Zombies wouldn't stand a chance against a real military. We have so perfected the art of killing, tactics and technology that today's armies have powers beyond how the Vikings would have pictured the gods. If there's one thing militaries are good at, it's building a highly complex structure in the middle of nowhere in a few hours; they'd decimate the hoards from the safety of their barricades.

@@Durzo1259 Meanwhile Johnny gets taken to the infirmary with a bite and everything goes to hell behind the barricades. I can believe that soldiers who had never seen a zombie movie before would be completely unprepared for that

@@mknightshaman3636 I can imagine the modern military would brief everybody about what happens when you're bitten and what to do about it. The game used spores as a way for the infection to spread, and that makes much more sense that it would bring the world to a grinding halt because you would have to stop nature itself in order for the wind to not blow the spores around. But now if the only way to get infected is by a bite mark, I'm currently scratching my head on how the military really couldn't buckle this down when all you need to do is kill the host who isn't any more durable than any other human.

@@mknightshaman3636 If a soldier gets bitten and turns, they're no stronger and far less good at fighting than a bunch of strong and well-trained soldiers. It's not that hard to restrain one guy trying to bite everyone.

To be fair to Pedro's 36 y.o. Joel - I'm 36 now and I've seen construction workers my age and younger. I don't know what it is, but that job does something to people, ages them up pretty damn quick. Or maybe it's all the after-hours booze.

i think that's one of the biggest problems. a lot of show runners say they don't want to do the exact same as the source material for exactly what drinker said. uve seen it before, it's not impactful the 2nd time around. but then a lot of people say show runners should stick to the source material. it's kind of a damned if u do, damned if u don't kind of thing.

So about Joel's age, I dug around a bit and found out that at the start of the first game in the intro scene with him and his daughter, Joel is only 27, at most. His daughter is half his age. Joel got someone pregnant when he was stupid fucking young.

You're war discussion really depends on context. WWII vets are proud for their sacrifices because they knew they were fighting for a genuine cause. That was almost universal. Vietnam vets have a more varied response because that war was so different than WWII.

If I had to change the Tess death. Have her slowly turning and losing control of her will. She is fumbling with the lighter trying to set herself on fire. When that fails due to muscle spasms have her grab a grenade and slide one finger under the pin and grip the grenade with the other hand. Have her turn, and have her do the pull her arms back away from her with zombie scream and that act pulls the pin.
