Open carry is generally frowned upon even amongst many in the firearms communuty, it serves no purpose other than to make yourself a target in a bad scenario, and in every other scenario make those around you uncomfortable.
@bear36632 жыл бұрын
Open Carry does have it's purposes though. There are areas where I would rather have a rifle. In a big city, your chance to be attacked by an animal is much lower than in rural areas. However, it is much harder to protect your rights in rural areas, which is why these need to take place in cities until officers stop illegally detaining and arresting people for lawfully open carrying. Once that stops, I think we would have less of these open carry events taking place. At least for the first group. The second group is using their 2nd amendment rights, but they are protesting police. That will require different actions. 1. The media needs to stop spinning stories of cops killing "unarmed" black people. Sure, it gets ratings, but it is bad for our country to lie to the people. I am not referring to cases where cops actually do shoot unarmed black people without cause. Those should be shown. However, lawful uses of force shouldn't have the facts changed to fit a false narrative. If an officer does shoot someone without reason, that should be shown, regardless of race. Someone shouldn't be considered a victim JUST because of their race though. It takes away from those who are actually victimized. Which brings us to part 2. Bad cops need to be held accountable for their actions. There are instances where cops do actually commit murder, and they get away with it. This creates distrust.
@KevinHartstem Жыл бұрын
@@bear3663 There have been many instances where the bodycam video comes out and justifies a shooting of a black person, however almost EVERY instance where the shooting wasn't justified the cops start by saying "the killing was justified", etc, until the video came out and proved them wrong. All police officers should be wearing body cams and there should be community review of uses of force. If these two things were implemented across the board I would pretty much more on your side, but over and over again cops have shown that they can't be trusted to be good reporters of fact against other cops.

@@bear3663 I've lived in rural areas. You don't need a rifle at the locally owned grocery store in case a cougar comes in, but you may need it on your property or in the woods where having guns is already well allowed. I mean I've lived in a town of 3000 where the nearest Wal Mart was 3 hours away and the closest town had less than 500 people and was 45 minutes out. And in those tiny tiny towns, it's less like "public" and more like a village. These guys wanna walk into a Wal Mart that has the same amount of customers as these towns have people but all packed into one, easy to mow down and that's just not gonna fly. You don't need to protect yourself at every Wal Mart and establishment. Especially because they're getting bulletproof armor now that even police can't shoot through so you'll most likely end up shooting his vest and someone's kid who happened to be too close to the crossfire. I'm a minority, I am female and I have been harassed and assaulted by men in public. In my family one of us is Jewish and another is a mixed race woman, even with us being visible minorities, and me going through trauma, I don't feel the need to carry a rifle for protection. (Although that is more nuanced so I'd have a different conversation about gun rights as they are now in relation to minorities but that's another day.) Also unfortunately nearly every gun owner I've met that's said they were responsible has pointed a gun at me or my family on accident or on purpose. (My husband's mom has undiagnosed schizophrenia and would answer the door with a pistol and has nearly shot both of her kids as well as their partners.) And the amount of time I'd have to spend to debunk your view of police would be too long and I've already typed so much. That's only because we fundamentally disagree about the police and I'm very talkative so I have no clue how much I'd run my little thumb bones down typing but yeah. Tldr: lived in a very small, in the boonies, Idaho town, and I still don't wanna see a rifle at the local Saveway (because we can't afford actual Safeway) also police suck but there's plenty of videos out there explaining that and police reform tactics so 👍
@bear3663 Жыл бұрын
@@abarbienamedken3334 1. I agree that your chance to be attacked at a public store vs the woods is low, even in rural areas. 2. If Walmart wants to restrict rifles in their stores, they have that right to do so. You speak of instances of criminals doing harm, but that is going to happen regardless of what law abiding citizens do. I would argue that it would happen less if more law abiding citizens were armed. 3. That's great that you feel safe enough where you don't feel like you need a rifle. There are still instances where one would want a rifle, such as rural areas that are not near public stores that would help keep away wildlife. They are exercising their rights here as their voices won't be heard in the woods or country roads. 4. I suggest that you don't associate with people who don't respect gun safety. No one that I know would even consider aiming a gun in another person's direction even if the gun was checked to be unloaded. This is very important. Schizos shouldn't carry, family members should step up and take action on that before it is too late. 5. I don't know what part of my view of the police that you wish to debunk. I am pro police, but anti criminal. I stand by the statement that the media portrays the police as criminals even if that isn't true, although there are instances where the police do actually commit crimes, which should be shown. There are still many instances of the police violating our gun rights. Until that changes, these open carry movements should continue to happen. Good police officers should be given respect, bad officers need to lose their jobs and/or go to jail.

Cops point guns at each other all the time, they are way too caress with safe muzzle direction. I have been on 4H skeet shooting teams where as young as 8 year old girls were doing very commendable (and extremely safe practice). So I will say I felt 100x safer when I was last skeet shooting with my boss and his 12-13 year old daughter was shooting skeet for the first time than I was with the police officer he also invited that day. The young girl showed extreme muzzle control and though she was struggling to lift the barrel or hit most of the targets, she did a commendable job keeping it pointed in a safe direction at all times, not once did anyone have to correct her on safety. I cannot say the same for “trained” police, I’m guessing complacency with the firearm and not paying attention to their surroundings nor it’s muzzle direction is just something they are used too (personally I wouldn’t wear a belt holster, because when you sit down to eat lunch your firearm is pointing directly at your partner across the table, think about that... Boot holster keeps it aimed at the ground at all times, away from people). Kids should learn to use tools at a young age, it becomes very apparent when adults are new to ownership and you really want safety engraved at a young age. That kid in this video simply needed someone to teach and show him, to instruct and guide him.

Obviously training is always key, but shockingly he wasn’t on the phone whilst operating the device (that’s even more impressive showing that he’s at least somewhat responsible, I mean a 13 year old NOT on their phone? That’s exceptional). I feel that even though extremely he’s under qualified, this adolescent is showing more self control than adults do that text and drive (sheesh, I know a lot that will drive right after drinking...) that might be a severely low bar, but it does show he’s probably not super impulsive. He should definitely get some guidance (I was able to give my mom a 10 minute quick training and she well outshoots my dad and very safe intuitively, she’s naturally gifted as a learner. I’ve also thought some people the rules of chess in 5 minutes, so I will say find a good teacher in whatever area you want to learn because it can help a lot). Always be familiar with your exact tool, just like I may have done 500+ shots every Saturday during High School, so a decent amount, but that doesn’t mean I can just pick up something I’ve never used and be confident at all in my usage of the new tool, practice practice practice, it’s important.

Jake Garrett I’m not talking about death toll statistics. I’m talking about the responsibility of being an open carry gun owner. I’m saying until he’s had the proper training to operate a firearm, he shouldn’t be walking around in public with it. The guy that Kleeper was interviewing said “the kids probably a better shot then me.” But he’s just “making an assumption” about a kid that he doesn’t even know. Sure the kid seems like he’s acting responsible with the gun in his hands, but when a real threat does pop up like idk a block down the road, you can’t just assume that the child knows how to hold, aim and fire the gun let alone discharge the magazine. That’s all I’m saying. If he wants to be an open carry gun owner that’s fine, but the parents of this child are completely irresponsible for not teaching him how to properly operate it. And it’s parents like that that give responsible gun owners a bad name
@blameitoncartman4 жыл бұрын
Jake Garrett the age is irrelevant btw. If any gun owner of any age says they don’t have the proper training of the firearm that they’re openly carrying around then that’s extremely irresponsible of them. 2nd amendment or not you should know how a gun operates before you start flashing it around publicly. I’m not saying you can’t have it. I’m just saying it puts more people at ease if the kid could have explained the AR-15 to Kleeper. That would have helped put my mind at ease while he’s carrying it around openly

Lightning strikes twice you carry it and hope you don’t need to use it. In 07 a man approached me at a gas station with a knife asking me for everything on me. I gave him everything. Then he started to look through my truck and my friend pulled out his gun and scared his ass off. He made off with all my shit but not my friends. All he had to do was see that gun and the situation was over. I now open carry every day, it’s not always that gun owners want to cause trouble or be cool. The mere presence of a gun can stop most people but for some unfortunate people to stop them it needs to be used. The kid with the gun was idiotic. No one should be in possession of a firearm unless they know safety proper measures, not to mention shoot it.
@drev484 жыл бұрын
@@nihilist6806 I always figured open carry was kinda silly. If there were "bad guys" with guns, they would know who to shoot in the head first (the people with the guns on their backs/waist). Conceal carry for protection makes more sense to me. "Normalizing" the sight of guns also makes it more difficult to know who is the bad guy with the gun is when shit hits the roof just because there's a lot more around people carrying guns (and I'd assume more shots since they'd likely be trying to shoot or find the "bad guy"). If there has to be guns, concealed carry just seems to make more sense, but that's just how I see it.
@landzhark38234 жыл бұрын
@@drev48 The majority of "bad guy with a gun" situations luckily aren't that tricky. Unless you're dealing with a professional killer, which is highly unlikely, they won't have the awareness or ability to pick out someone open carrying in a crowd. This is for the average store robber, shooter, or general thief. They'll be worked up and disoriented from adrenaline and anxiety. In situations like that a concealed carry can be worse as the movement of drawing a concealed carry is much more noticeable than that of an open carry. This is of course disregarding the fact that, as said above, open carry often prevents the issue in the first place by deterring the majority of scared and desperate criminals. Especially if multiple individuals do it.

They are far more capable of mass death than the typical lone wolf male. Polls taken by Saudi owned Al Arabiya and Gallup suggested moderate support for the September 11 terrorist attacks within the Arab world, with 36% of Arabs polled by Al Arabiya saying the 9/11 attacks were morally justified. 26% were UNSURE?! Apply that percentage to 1.8 billion muslims worldwide and then maybe you'll see who is the larger threat. How many Christians support a mass extermination of Muslims? chironapolonio Frankly most people who’ve had to defend themselves have used pretty much everything but a gun of any sort! Recently a young boy was locked in a closet by a home intruder and he broke out but he didn’t use a gun...He used a machete!! The few cases that have used a gun it wasn’t readily available, in those cases they picked up the gun when the person using it dropped it! They weren’t armed originally! As you’ll note a Caucasian man is more likely to kill himself and his family not a home intruder! And let’s talk about the mistakes made when a person hears a noise at the door and responses with a gun ending up killing a relative coming home late!

Robert counter-counter point: there have been multiple times where “good guys with guns” have been shot and killed by the police after being mistaken for the assailant. i’m thinking of 3 that happened in 2018 or more recent, and they were all african american. So at that point why not leave it to the trained police who’s job it is to protect us, rather than an untrained man with a gun who can now be mistakenly shot by both sides
@russetwolf135 жыл бұрын
@@construct8295 that's actually more likely bad training and a touch of institutional racism on the cops part. Also since so few people actually attempt to engage a mass shooter most departments have no protocol for sorting friendlies from hostiles. There's also no protocol for the armed citizen, they aren't taught how to act to avoid getting shot by police, they have no way to signal. It's a common problem in the military, but their solutions are code phrases and signalling devices. Things which only work when not widely available, defeating the purpose. It's ironic because when you think about it an armed citizen is best equipped to stop a shooting, but then they're highly likely to be mistaken for a shooter.

Nobody would try to run you off the road passing within 2 inches of your handlebars if you had one on your back, they’d pass at a much safer distance! It’s not like I go slow, even on pedal bikes I usually pass roughly 8x more people than I get passed by in towns, like they should really get out of my way and blocking lanes. On motorized bikes where I’m doing nearly double the speed limit so I don’t hold up the single car on that otherwise empty road, there is absolutely no reason to try to run me off into the curb while passing, just leave a few feet if you wanna pass, it’s not a big deal... I'm in high school. I'm sitting in a class with several students who are known troublemakers. Suddenly, the students start acting up in class. Me, I'm just sitting there. The teacher says, "since this class can't behave you all have extra homework tonight." What people like you either don't get or don't want to get is that your average black person has never been in any trouble their entire lives, CERTAINLY not anything violent. Yet, many police, and in fact many in society, lump the average in with the troublemakers. This doesn't happen in white society. People understand that the crazy mass shooter doesn't represent white america as a whole, but here you are doing what many people like you always do, justify the targeting of the innocent because you can't tell us apart from the guilty. That is YOUR problem. MY problem as a black man is that many people like you who can't tell us apart happen to wear police uniforms, and so now my life is potentially in danger even though I did nothing to cause that. If you're okay with innocent, unarmed people being murdered, then you're what's wrong with this country.

I love the guy saying "They used to draft 13 year olds" as if that's soime sort of brilliant argument for giving 13 year olds guns. Yeah, they *_USED_* to draft 13 year olds..... and then they STOPPED! Because children aren't real well known for their cool heads and good decision making under pressure. I mean, let me ask you this - Would you take *_medical_* advice from a 13 year old? No...? But you're absolutely fine with giving them an assault rifle?!? 🤣

@@firestream93 I'm sorry, are you defending giving 13 year olds guns...? Because let's forget assault rifles, I don't think 13 year olds should be allowed ANY kind of gun, even the smallest caliber handgun. 13 year olds are hormone fueled morons. I'm serious, what are you trying to argue?!? Because nothing in my comment was about the definition of what an "assault rifle" is, it was about not giving guns to literal children.

If I remember it correctly the Second Amendment says because a Militia is important, people have the right to keep and bear arms. Since the equivalent to a Militia today would be the National Guard should guardsmen be the only people to bare arms. Secondly an AR15 is many many times more destructive than a late 1700s musket so should the term arms have a modern restriction, a weapon sufficient for defence.

Personally I don't open carry, but I have to wonder if people who are afraid of firearms are also afraid of chain saws, electricity, gasoline and other potentially lethal inanimate objects that have no will of their own? The solution to fear of firearms, like any irrational fear of the unknown, is simply education. I have yet to meet anyone who has been taken shooting on numerous occasions who is still afraid of firearms - and why would they be after coming to realize they are nothing but simple mechanical devices, like a power drill. Parents who don't teach their children how to competently handle firearms (or have them taught by someone competent to do so) should reflect on their parenting decisions. Additionally, the pubic schools should be ensuring well-behaving responsible youth have an opportunity to learn how to handle firearms safely and responsibly.
