You are 100% correct in all the examples I've experienced and seen. While my ex got plenty of action, I got a lot myself. Eventually she complained that she couldn't compete with this sort of conglomeration of women I was involved with. She didn't worry that I was going to run off with any single one of them (she ended up leaving me for one of her suitors). But she felt like she couldn't compete with the collective novelty from each woman I was with. What's left in the original relationship is nothing but _work,_ and respect has fallen through the floor. It is _not_ good and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It's a mirage and a lie that it will enhance your relationship past the initial buzz of violating societal norms together.

The only time I’ve ever seen this work long term, was a coworker of mine who married his high school best friend, only to find out that she was asexual and feeling obligated to have sex made her miserable. I mean more than half of all relationships fall apart. I personally think that the main reason for this is that people get bored. Of course you might SAY that you'll be 100% loyal and youll never even glance at someone else. However it is quite literally in our nature to want as many mates as possible. So while yes it is possible for someone to stay 100% loyal I can't imagine they would stay completely happy. Especially young daters since most lack the maturity in order to not get bored of one girl after an amount of time. I think this might be the reason relationships fall apart. This makes me think that if done right, it's possible that an open relationship can save a relationship. I mean, think about it, in this relationship you'll most likely never get bored, you can have as many partners as you want, and everything is consensual so there's no need to really hide anything. I'm aware that things like open relationships are looked down soon by society for being "basically cheating" or because it's "Not what god intended" but I think it's about time that we get rid of these stupid old social norms. They only serve to hurt and judge people for living a different life style. Sorry for ranting about this, my comment started out simple and just kept going. I'm not trying to be rude or anything just giving my opinion.

It’s true, actioning the decision to leave someone after years of them making you feel alone is really hard. Especially when they try to make you feel like they were a necessary part of your life. Amidst other forms of cruelty inflicted by the person, discovering they were disloyal is hardly a surprise. It’s better to be single and know where you stand then in a relationship muddied by betrayal and abuse.

@@GoldFishMuzzle Open relationships are in no way healthy for either party. The only reason you’d have an open relationship is because whoever you’re with isn’t enough to satisfy your wants/ needs. It’s a good way to end a relationship whether you respect one another’s boundaries or not. It’s wrong to be attracted to someone for their body alone. It’s objectifying and manipulative. You’re using the other person for their appearance- purely to sate some insignificant desire to get high off of sex. Going on dates is useless in an open relationship because at the end of the day you only want that person for their body. POLYAMORY however CAN be healthy because ideally it’s full of individuals that love and respect one another equally- instead of one person liking another more than you might. @@zenraloc unfortunately, I have seen this kind of thing firsthand. Whomever is the more attractive/desirable partner (male, female, nby, etc.) has already decided their partner isn't good enough: after deciding this, these dominant partners pushed the other for weeks-months until they agreed to opening their relationship/marriage; one used a threesome as a smart gateway. In the worst case, the couple had been married for around 6 years, with two small girls already born. In fairness, this marriage was doomed to fail since the beginning, as both partners had cheated back and fourth for years, but regardless, it has been a tragedy. I know people who are and have been together for 15 years and still love and care for each other deeply, they just aren't monogamous. I don't know why the possibility of such a relationship is anathema to so many men, that they'd try to tell others that such an arrangement is impossible. Man.. this brings back some memories.. Had this exact thing happen to a great friend of mine. It's really sad how it happened.. he's a software engineer that makes pretty good money (around 90k) a year and she can't keep a job whatsoever and just uses him for his resources. She opened their relationship because she had "needs" but the reality was that she didn't like her boyfriends height (he's around 5'5" tall) and would sleep with around 3-4+ tall men (6'+) a week. She would also constantly talk shit about short guys (often around him), praise tall guys like they were gods, and exclusively slept with tall drug dealers to get her rocks off and actively use marijuana, cocaine, and alcohol on a daily basis while my friend worked constantly, coding for their survival. He wasn't allowed to question her or put any rules into the open relationship either and would often open up about it to me. It got to the point where he eventually broke down and they had a major argument about the entire ordeal that involved her threatening to leave if he didn't allow her "needs" to be met, and she claimed he was abusive and controlling due to the fight, complaining constantly about him for a while to our friend group. After all of this, things changed a lot and he became completely stagnant with the issue and a shell of his former self. I'd point this out to him (just trying to be helpful and get him to reflect on the ongoing issue), but rather than be open about his feelings toward the subject like he used to, he would become defensive and defend her actions even though it was obvious to everyone around him that it was killing him. It got to the point where I eventually had to cut off my relationship to both of them due to how toxic it had become. It's really sad because he's a brilliant guy and deserves better, and she's a literal snake, but I guess that's just life these days for some people, sadly. If you notice this kind of abuse, try your best to save your homies, otherwise they may just end up like my friend did. 😔

Actually I had an ex girlfriend named Julia, and the whole reason why we broke up was because she wanted an open relationship. I fell in love with her and it seemed like a great relationship. I loved her, and she told me she loved me. However, back in May she told me she wanted an open relationship. Being Christian and monogamous, I hated the idea. She told me to choose between her and my religion, I chose my religion. I was heartbroken yeah (and still get sad sometimes, but I know that I'm better) however if I could do it all again I would choose my religion over and over again. I know I made the right decision and I thank God for protecting me. Since then my life has gotten better: I've converted to Eastern Orthodoxy and love my church as well as my family (both church family and real family); I've been doing a lot of world travelling and have been to 7 countries this year alone. Life is difficult, but my advice to anyone who is put in this position is this: don't do it. As hard as the heartbreak of breaking up can be, just know that you will be miserable if you are in an open "relationship" God loves you and you are worth so much more than someone's plaything

@@orangeinthesoup1594 Yes, all open relationships are formed due to lust and commitment issues. Human children aren't born fully developed so two parents are necessary to raise them even in the most basic versions of society. An open relationship is completely impossible to raise high functioning children in if you look at how repetitive parental separations effect their minds. More parents does not mean more stability. Messages conflict and they learn a poor sense of right and wrong. Parents also have a huge influence on identity, and the more people with say the more confused they will be. If we are debating human nature, then naturally such a situation would lead to many children with many fathers, most of whom abandon their children in this singular household. Look up anecdotes of those who spent time in group homes, there are no good stories. This is all assuming they even stick around long enough to register in the children's minds as a parental figure. But think, if a person is bringing random people into the house, that is a safety risk in and of itself. If you spend enough time to know them well enough to trust them then there's only two possibilities: 1. You're not spending enough time at home to take care of your responsibilities. 2. They are around the house long enough that they form a bond with your kids. In summary: perhaps open relationships are good for the individual, but they are not functional. There is no point in engaging in an open relationship and they contribute to the decline of civil society. The core purpose of a relationship is not sex, and that is what arguments in favor of polygamy forget. If you want to bang as many chicks as you want, there's no reason to have a relationship at all, just be a ho.

Oh trust me I've done this and it ended up literally like this. I didn't agree at first because I was brought up by a family which NEVER agreed with this open relationship thing. But after seeing that I "might have been too rough" I agreed to open the relationship up. Felt like garbage for 3 weeks because I had felt there was a HUGE breach in the trust between each other. Saw her being w other ppl as well and after a while I pretty much stopped caring, started treating her like a friend instead of my s/o. A while later I met another girl that was actually super cool and I started going out more often. Fast forward 3 weeks later and she felt bad because "she doesn't see me much anymore". I agreed to close the relationship afterwards but it lasted 2 days before I called it off since all the feelings I had for her had vanished long ago. DON'T EVER PROPOSE AND / OR ACCEPT AN OPEN RELATIONSHIP. IT INSTANTLY KILLS THE RELATIONSHIP, NO MATTER WHAT.

I hate the concept of open realtionahips. My ex boyfriend always tried to convince me to have a threesome with another girl but I never wanted to. It made me feel so uncomftable and I didn't understand why he wanted it so badly. After sometime I found out he was texting girls on tinder without me knowing. I felt so betrayed and heartbroken. Nah BF should've said okay then when he met the other girl; broken up with the old one. Imo if people want open relationships say yes and gather evidence. Then find someone else. Once they see you got game too and their meal ticket is walking away they wanna close it off. Then you flake for the new gf whose a much better well adjusted person. If the ex wants to sue or whatever for anything (property, money, kids, etc.) use the evidence and basically waltz away scott free. Lets face it Open relationship are a ticking time bomb that cannot be defused. At least if you notice it early enough you can better prepare for the fallout afterwards. The time bomb was already planted aka she already cheated or let you go mentally and emotionally and wants to cheat. May as well make a pre-emptive strike before she hits you with "I'm leaving you for X person" "I wanna close it off i don't want you with other girls" "Then break up. You're not mature enough for me or us".

Most open relationships are not created to fullfill equal needs of both partners. Most of the time, they are only the result of one partner selfishly imposing his desires on the other. Most of the time, the one who is at the initiative of the opening knows deep down that her/his partner suffers from it, that she/he and only accepted it out of the fear of breaking up; but the initiator mostly chooses to ignore it to fulfill his/her lust while the partner gets nothing, and progressively loses the only bond he had. The initiator then proceeds to never address the issue and as a result emotionnaly entrap his/her partner, guilt tripping by putting the blame of the issue on the partner in case the latter officialises the break up... Most of the time, it's also women doing it because they don't have any trouble getting attention from men. Most men don't try it because they know fully well they have to work their asses off to date and get laid, so it's out of question for most of them. They'd rather stay with their girl instead of risking to lose everything. There are couples out there who have a quite "open" relationship that works for them, but they are only a tiny minority. Most of them end up tragically because of what I explained. Opening a relationship is possible, but only if you actually CARE about what your partner is experiencing, and only if you SHARE the pleasure of it. Opening a relationship to fuck around BY YOURSELF and live nice social experiences ONLY WITH OTHERS while leaving your partner behind is not being open, it's just unilateraly leaving the couple without notice and without admitting it.

For me and my bf, it's great 😃 Although we usually share via threesomes. Either way, it's not something we do often and our love in bed together is completely different from the swinging sleep overs 😅

I remember my ex said she wanted an open relationship. But not for her, just for me to sleep with other women. She didn't think she could satisfy me and felt bad about it or some such. This is a dream scenario for some dudes. I said no. That our society pushes this so much is going to have disastrous results.

When a woman say she want an open relationship what she really want to say is : " I want to get what you can’t give me from other men and you will still be with me and provide for me even if I get pregnant with an other man child " 🤷‍♂️🗿🙂
