I earned my Ph.D. over twenty years ago and still remember one of my professors telling me the first year that earning a Ph.D. is similar to ten years of intense psychotherapy due to how much time you spend in your head doubting yourself, trying to dig deep and encourage yourself, and figure out who you really are in this world. I'm so glad actual therapy is a part of the conversation as well. I have been enjoying watching your journey and rooting for you. You are going to get through this, and this random "internet auntie" is very proud of you!

I’m so sorry! I know it feels like the end of the world but it does get better. I applied to several schools in undergrad and got rejected from all my top choices but that led me to a great school that was perfect for me and I didn’t even know it at the time. Fast forward a few years later when I applied for my phd I got into the same schools I was rejected from. All that to say is that admissions are weird and not a true reflection of your worth. You will get in somewhere and everything will work out in the long run!
