I will be clocking out of work an hour early on Thursday night to go to a late late showing (10:40 pm - I work nights). I've never been more excited in my life.

Thank you for doing a spoiler-free review. The movie doesn't release here for another two weeks and I'm getting ready to dodge spoilers everywhere. This review just makes me more excited for the moment I finally get to see it.

I love you. Your upbeat and well-reasoned review was exactly what this week needed--and a fantastic break from the selfish, racist, and parasocialized hot takes that people have been providing before they even see the film.

I have booked Friday off work and seeing the first IMAX screening. I just couldn’t wait until the evening! This show was just so special to me in 2006, it triggered my adult life as a fan of all things theatre.

I love this. I agree with a lot of the comments regarding how they portrait Elphaba during the movie but I still loved it, it’s different, it hits you like you’re looking at it for the first time and not just the broadway staged version . I can’t wait to go see it again!

Oscar nom for Ariana for best supporting actress (and win???) for this film, and Erivo for best actress in the next??? This film was Ariana's, the next will be Erivo's. Michelle Yeoh was good, but with horrible vocals...Jeff Goldblum was an old style ham chewing up the scenery in search of a nomination that hopefully will never come....and his vocals made Yeoh's seem wonderful. But the film overall exceeded my expectations. I am a 68 yr old man who hasnt seen a movie in a theater in over a decade...when was the first Magnificent Beasts movie???... anyway, i was hoping to stay awake and not be disappointed...i was blown away and applauding at the credits, and i was not the only one in the theater. I hope this finds a wide audience that allows it to take it back to it's Wizard of Oz childhood, while satisfying the theater geeks out there. I am both of those, and am delighted beyond words!

This was the first time I have ever seen a movie before a review embargo lifted, and what a treat! I thought it was excellent. Any criticisms from me felt really minor overall, which is very rare for me when seeing such a highly anticipated adaptation for the first time. I’m so glad you enjoyed it, too.!

You are the only reviewer so far who has acknowledged overtly the specific layer of race as part of the differing being addressed in this film. I very much appreciate that you noticed the difference in the vibes of an Elphaba who is newly angry with being othered and an Elphaba who has over a lifetime devised survival strategies.

I was able to see it last night & I haven't stopped geeking out about it. I'm just waiting to be able to talk about it more online without spoiling for anyone. What I will say is I LOVE Wicked & I also adore critiquing things to death. I only have 3 critiques & they're super minor. If you like this comment, I'll come after Friday & share my favorite parts. I'll also share the critiques if anyone is interested, but they really are minor compared to how magical the entire experience was. You're totally right about Jeff Goldbloom though. That wasn't even one of my critiques, but now that I think about it, my brain never stopped going "That's Jeff Goldbloom." LOL.

Just saw the movie (it was released today in Brazil). I know I loved it, but I'm still reflecting on what I think of this new take on Elphaba. I wonder if it was Cynthia's decision or John Chu's. The broken window part ended up being so obvious, I don't know why we were confused about it. 😂

I got to see an advance screening too and I agree with everything you said! It's truly a stunning movie to look at, and I love the little creative tweaks the production made, both in the story and the visuals, while still maintaining the spirit and emotional core of the original. I'm dying to see the second one, because I really have faith now that they'll be able to expand on some of the things that make Act II of Wicked a bit weaker than Act I

I haven't forgiven Les Mis: Le Film for Russell Crowe. His behavior during the backstage rehearsal for the Oscars broke my brain. I honest to God think kids learning Hot Cross Buns on the recorder have a better sense of rhythm and musicality. I watched that KZbin video breaking down how bad the music choices were in the movie, and it managed to make me side-eye Hugh Jackman.

I can't tell you one song Ariana Granda has sung...I'm 68...she blew me away!!! She can sing! Operatic vocals! Wonderful comic timing...a best supporting actress Oscar nomination possibility. I was hoping to stay awake for a 2 1/2hr movie at my age in a comfy movie seat...I was enthralled and enchanted and applauded at the credits with tears in my eyes. The Wizard of Oz was a yearly tv event in the 60's and 70's in my youth. I hoped for the best and had that expectation blown out of the water very quickly...suddenly this 68 yr old was a 12 yr old again! The movie and the performances are magnificent.
