There will never be another AALIYAH...it's so sad.

This is why when other people try to sing an Aaliyah song or do her choreography it never comes off the same just shows her talent. That being said I'd be interested in seeing you react to her live ballad performances such as the One I gave my heart to or Journey to past live.

Hi Jess! Omg SO happy u did an Aaliyah analysis. I, like you, was obsessed with her. Her voice was so different (at the time), so talented at such a young age. When u said nobody could tell u nothing about Jazmine, that’s how I felt about Aaliyah lol. Had every album, saw both her movies opening day. Was shocked & DEVASTATED at her passing. Happened a day before my bday. 😔 Such a beautiful, humble, sweet soul. Only 22. Imagine her catalog today had she lived. I know exactly what u mean about singing & dancing. Tried it. Yeah no. Lol. I remember reading how Beyonce’s parents had her jog & sing at the same time when she was young so she could perform live on stage & dance. Obviously paid off for her. Anyway, great analysis as always! Have a wonderful day. 😊

Hi D! SO happy to meet another Aaliyah fan! Even though her life was short-lived, I am grateful for all she did while she was making music. Hope you have a great rest of the weekend! ☺

Did you know Aaliyah would sing opera to warm up? This is coming from Daryl Simmons. And Micheal J Powell said Aaliyah sung in a powerful voice that was like Whitney Houston before she came out with debut album. He also said that he heard Aaliyah do things that public never heard her do. It was also said by Kidada Jones that Quincy Jones thought Aaliyah was Christina Aguilera when she sung to him over the phone. I think the soft singing was just her style to set herself apart from the others. She made the right choice to do that. Can you do a reaction on her Oscars performance?

Omg! Jess hey!! So, as someone who was in a song and dance troupe/show choir in high school, I can attest that it is not easy to sing and dance at the same time. And we had the luxury of being a group so we had breaks in singing depending on the part. To practice singing and dancing well together, our director would have us jog and sing through the park in my hometown. And it’s the second largest metro park, the first being Central Park in NYC. So yeah, it’s a lot harder than most people realize and Aaliyah did it so masterfully while making it look so effortless and easy. She was truly special and a true performer. I was one of the people who learned the choreo and would dance and sing right along with her whenever I could in my room or when I was home alone 😂

I guarantee if Aaliyah were still alive she would've done the Super Bowl halftime show. She would've been awesome! I can picture her singing "Try Again" on the football field with the marching band behind her. She's so missed.

I never thought how much effort when into singing and dancing at the same time. I knew dancing can be a workout and I am learning through you and from watching a video done by Floor Janson talking about her concerts the effort of singing. But Aaliyah makes it look so effortless, I forget. 😅 Thank you. 😊

This was fun to watch. I think Aaliyah had an underrated voice because her highs were really beautiful (think "At Your Best"..the beginning before music kicks in)...and then her lows on "I care for you" "Giving up" (Donny Hathaway/Sparkle)or for live performance, her radio acapella of "I refuse" are so affecting. I think as she got older she would've mastered transitioning from her highs and lows or head to chest voice more. I feel a lot of the lighter voice girls and airy voice girls of today are not defined and emotive in it like Aaliyah... I dont think them doing that opening of "At Your Best" would sound as good. Except for like Jhene Aiko. I think she really understands how to make her voice emotive and runs specific to showcase her vocal talent
