Avi Kaplan has one of the most underrated singers out there right now. His performances with just him and his guitar feel so unbelievably intimate and raw. I listen to him frequently and I know what I'm getting into but still, his range blows my mind every time! One is that every reaction video pays full attention to both Avi and Tim in their solo verses. And rightly so! What may be getting overlooked (and well deserve repeat listenings, especially with earphones) are the perfect backup doos, which are so so clean, and the backup bass part being sung by the two basses. Excellent writing as well as rendering. This is a masterpiece. And I love the nod to Johnny Cash right at the end where they mimic the trumpet in the original and Avi dons the signature black hat. The thing I love most about this cover is the contrast between the different vocal textures. Avi is so warm and round but Tim's voice is more ribbonlike for lack of better description. It's like fire and ice, you know? And then you have Austin's clear, strident tones over the top... it's a delicious meal for the ears. 😅💍

It helped get me through work today to know I had this waiting for me when I got home and your reaction didn't disappoint, I think I enjoyed this more than any time I've heard it since the first time, I especially had a good chuckle when you were discussing subharmonics and going from G2 to G1 when I knew the G1 was coming. I recall reading that the idea of doing a bit of a calypso beat on this song came out of the Sing Off and wanting to do something different with it. Wonderful job, Magee Renee, thank you. I might recommend How Great Thou Art for your next Home Free reaction. No beatboxing, just five part harmony and hearing Adam Rupp sing a duet lead for a couple of bars.💍(I liked, so naturally had to put a ring on it).

We were so thankful they came to Hawaii in 2018 and we spent quite a bit of our savings to island hop to see them in Honolulu. No regrets. My mom is really sick now but I hope one day I can take her again so she can hear her new favorite song, “Children, Go where I send thee”. If you haven’t heard it you should. Whoaaaa, where in the world did you learn what subharmonics is? Lol that's a very, very obscure vocal register, I'm always surprised when I come across a person who's familiar with it. Avi and Tim do not sing in subharmonics, but actually, the _a cappella_ group *VoicePlay* has a bass singer who does sing in subharmonics. I recommend you check out VoicePlay's cover of the "Ooogie Boogie Song"-that's their most popular song featuring subharmonic singing. It's incredible!
@paulgoers2204 жыл бұрын
Tim uses a growl technique rather than a subharmonic to hit the low note in this song.
@chrismartinez1444 жыл бұрын
@@paulgoers220, yeah, the low note here is growled. Tim Foust does growls but does not do any subharmonics I wonder if Maggie knows what growling is? (I would have thought that it would have been more likely she were familiar with growling than subharmonics… hmm)

But all the songs they did on the Sing Off was amazing, as did Pentatonix. 💍If you want some old school accapella, find Rockapella they are the ones that did the theme for Where in the world is Carmen SanDiego? And I suggest finding their earlier work with the original bass, just a personal opinion. The group with the new members is still a great group.
