Most vocal coaches agree that she has the best mixed voice ever. Many also believe, and I do as well, that this woman is the best singer on the planet. Just everything she does and all of the many techniques that you and vocal coaches hear and tell us mere mortals. I have been around 60 years, and have heard all those that came before her, and to me, SoHyang is the best female vocalist on the planet. I am afraid that due to her not seeking fame, that she will not get the recognition she deserves. I do thank you for your super detailed critique of her.

I believe she does her own arrangements in addition to her fantastic singing. That allows her to meld her vocal and the instruments to evoke whatever atmosphere she wants. I also believe she's incorporating her faith into this presentation, with the "He" in the English part "He said" referring to God or Christ. This performance is like a sung testimony, and at least to me, seems intensely personal to her.

Her input, with the cooperation of the conductor and her accompanying musicians, all very high-level professionals, is what results in these exceptional performances. If you took the time to find and watch full episodes of these shows, you will realize that arrangements of other singers/competitors on these shows are rather pedestrian. They don't vary significantly from the original compositions. With So-Hyang's it's a whole new dimension that opens up. And, it's not just a matter of making it "different." Her arrangements are so tasteful. They enhance, tremendously. They don't detract. Like her runs. They are tasteful, exquisite, enhancing.

Somehow this video got by me! I discovered Sohyang back in May of 2021 when I was fresh out of major surgery for Crohn's disease and wondering how my life would change. Your comments serve as Virgil's explanation in Dante's Inferno (if we can ignore the depressive setting for now - apologies) that lends context to the experience and articulate the basis for appreciation of the work. Sohyang mentioned that this song was the hardest for her to prepare at one point. You laid out some of the reasons why the song is demanding beyond the obvious. It's also the first time I heard someone pointed out Sohyang's stiffened tongue on the word "when" during the performance. This observation again revealed your attention and focus on the execution of the performance. Sohyang vocal gift is rare and to be cherished. There, now you know what her mother in law looks like, ha, ha! Actually, So Hyang says she is her best friend in the whole wide world. You do realise that she doesn't just perform all her songs, shes responsible for all her own arrangements, she is her own musical director, she puts everything together right down to her backing singers 🇬🇧🔥👌❤️.
