Well they still bombed plenty of schools and hospitals. By "accident" of course, the same thing happening in Afghanistan and Syria today. Edit: And while the ground attack aircrafts performed their surgical strike most B52 and other heavy aircraft like the F-111 performed carpet bombing of entire urban population centers with napalm and conventional bombs. Most productions in Northern Vietnam were moved to the mountains by then. So the bombing ended up not affecting the industries much just hitting civilian targets killing hundreds of thousand in the process.

Jana Dar-Ali - Credit Valley PS (1653) Market Garden was British lead, as Montgomery was the main planner for the operation and the brunt of the forces allocated for the ground convoy were British. The 101st and 82nd were our additions to the operation, as there were 3 main bridges to be taken, and they wanted some American involvement for PR reasons and because they knew we’d send our best. Neptune was an operation in Italy I think, which involved the 82nd airborne. Barbarossa was German and I think that was either associated with germanic mythology or history, i’m not sure which, which has little to do with OP’s comment which was joking about British operation names lacking a bit of flair as compared to US operation names. Which granted, the brits always snipe back something about style and unassuming names to throw people off of spying on em.

LMFAO the war was DOOMED from the beginning. South Vietnam could only survive if it had American ground troops and aid. The gov't in the south was extremely unpopular and incompetent and those traits trickled down on the ARVN. He must have been very pleased with himself dropping bombs on civilians. He was lucky that he did not collide in the air with Soviet pilots, they sometimes flew themselves instead of the Vietnamese.

I was told that American pilots usually avoided air battles when they realized that against them not a thin, inexperienced Vietnamese who almost faints with moderate congestion, but an experienced Soviet pilot.

@@neyt9699 yeah taking on a modern jet in combat isn't something to be taken lightly. With guided missiles even a small mistake can see you explode before you have a chance to do anything. Its the reason why many armies banked so hard on stealth and longer range, because even a state of the art fighter cannot be sure to evade guided munitions.

@Martin Luther I doubt it. A lot of my older relatives who lived in Vietnam during the war did listen to western music, but they mostly only listened to songs from the 50s and early 60s. Stuff like Elvis, Buddy Holly, the early works of the Beatles, etc. Songs like Fortunate Son or anything from '67 onwards didn't really reach to Vietnamese civilians until after the war or it wasn't too common.
