Fun fact, when going behind enemy lines to kill the General, not only was he never spotted, but he was also crawling for four days from what I can recall from his book. He talked about how as he was crawling the scariest part was him hearing the sound of a snake nearby him only to realize it was one of the most venomous snakes in the world (i’m not sure which type). It’s funny because he said if he was to go out by being bit by a snake, after everything he’s been through, it would of been incredibly embarrassing.

Before the airstrike is even in - your shot in the head calling the headquarter or hours has passed and he is likely gone. at 7:40 where Hathcock was going to snipe the general he actually took a few days of slowly crawling through the area. He did an interview explaining this and said he was almost stepped on by patrols a couple of times. He definitely had the patience to crawl through the thick foliage for days to get the perfect shot off. He then had to crawl back out of the area without being seen which took just half as long, if I'm not mistaken. The efforts this man went through to do his job was badass.

Carlos Hathcock aka 'White Feather' would eventually be credited with an official confirmed total of 93 sniper kills. But the true total was probably several hundreds more as the system for acknowledging confirmed kills was stringent in the extreme, as it required an officer and a spotter to be present when the kill was made. Notable kills: "Cobra" A sniper duel where Carlos shot through Cobra's scope and killed the sniper "Apache" who had a reputation for torturing captive U.S. Marines A NVA General at close range with out a spotter Killing a Vietcong Guerilla with a M2 .50 Cal Browning at a range of 2,500 yd, setting the record for the longest sniper kill at the time

Having personally met Carlos Hathcock in the Late 1980s when he was a guest speaker at a convention I was at, and having read both of the books written about him, Can tell you that there is a glaring error in the 1st part of the video. He did not go through basic training at Camp Perry, Ohio. That is where the national rifle championship matches are held. He was a nationally-ranked rifle shooter and won the Wimbledon Cup in 1965. Likr everyMarine, he went to basic training at either Paris Island, South Carolina or Camp Pendleton, California. When he spoke at the convention I attended, you could hear a pin drop in that auditorium. Especially when he told the story about killing the Apache Woman sniper. The man was definitely a legend we will probably not see his likes again any time soon. SEMPER FI, Carlos!

Not a single mention of LCpl John Burke, his spotter, who was indispensable to Carlos and a very fine shooter and qualified sniper himself. And it was not just Carlos who had a price on his head. Capt Jim Land, the CO of the sniper company, also had the same bounty on his head as did Carlos. The Vietnamese disseminated thousands of flyers with both Carlos and Jim's picture and a bounty of several thousand dollars. ANY sniper brought a bounty of about $8 dollars, which was a sizeable amount of money to someone in those days.

Yah but back then almost no one knew about Carlos's incredible shot, so the legend of it reaching Spielberg, and the only example was known through pop culture, that film Saving Pvt Ryan, and then before people came aware of that real shot, there was a brief period of debate, argument if this was even actually possible, including mythbusters, because the hearsay about the real incident was still spreading now that it was a hot topic

Problem was that it kinda defies physics He’s shooting upward in the rain, the target is in a bell tower that is almost 3 stories up The shot movie wise is very Fucking impressive I’ll give it that, but I doubt it being through the scope instead of hitting on top of it
