I'm swedish, but had to take a few minutes to adjust to the awkwardness of hearing, and actually understanding, Opeth in swedish. Swedish lyrics works quite well, I even prefer them, and I see why you might like them because they appear exotic and mystical to non-swedish speakers. Both versions are absolutely great though! Så Opeth, fortsätt med fler svenska texter, tack!

You know. All these complaints about the growls are gone on different social media places. Personally, yes, I do miss them. But I love his clean vocals, and I'm ok if he never does them again on a studio album. The only thing I really missed, was riffage. Metal riffage. And this new song definitely has everything I love. Heavy riffage, awesome songwriting, beautiful acoustic parts, tasty leads. The whole package. Amen.

For a long period of time opeth was my absolute favorite band. I saw them for the first time in 1999 at a little tiny venue in Detroit called the i-rock night club, touring black water park. I got to enter the club really early because I know the owners and soon found myself sitting at the bar with all 4 of them. Drinking Budweiser, smoking cigarettes and watching americas funniest home videos on a shitty little TV set mounted up in the corner. They were all laughing, I will never forget that. Got to talk to them for a good half hour. This is when Peter was still with them on guitar, and Martin on drums. The real deal line up there... I have a vhs copy of that show that someone had shot and I some how got ahold of a copy. But I believe you can actually view that show here on youtube if I’m not mistaken. I discovered them a few years earlier, I think ‘96 or ‘97 and they changed my life. Especially the first couple releases. Orchid and Morningrise are masterpieces. I’m sad to say that I started to loose interest around the watershed period. I love all sorts of music, but I got lost when they’re transition to prog came into play. Not that I’m being negative, but it just doesn’t feel the same inside. Nonetheless, some of the most talented and inspirational musicians ever to pick up instruments. Mikael is a musical genius. The earlier stuff will always hold a special place in my heart. *Black Rose Immortal...

I don't think he can physically muster the same vocal strength to do death metal vocals anymore. Not too much anyway. It wrecks the voice after a while.

I swear it's like I can hear the growling vocals during the instrumental parts. I think Mikael recorded them and took them out just to torture us.

I've heard both opinions... The old vs. The new... I personally love them both. Ive learned several songs on guitar and drums from all their albums, and I have to say, bad ass and talented on both fronts. Keep up the solid work fellas

if you need to believe in something, Opeth gave us a new God with 5 heads and scorpion body. El Bosch it's insanely proud

I'm new to this band, liking them better by the day, but I like the newer stuff better because the dude can flat-out sing; probably one of the better rock vocalists out there today

Brings me back in the early seventies, where such hypnotic rock with jazz-rock elements and breaks was popular. As a fan of Blue Effect ( Modry Efect ) from Checheslovakia I see many similarities. Listen to "Amageddon", "Clara" or "Boty".

@@lordoflightning7506 Hi again ! The last weeks I was very focused on my nowadays favourite group, and that is BAND-MAID from Japan, but now I got another group from my youth: Brand X was another favourite of mine (I have nearly all LP´s) . Interesting group formed from studio musicians around the mid 70´s. Here is their wonderful Livestock album kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6rFp2eGfM12gdE. Enjoy.

@@lordoflightning7506 Óh, I forgot ! A little time bevore Brand X, my sister had an Italian boyfriend and she got a LP from him, L´Isola di Niente from Premiata Forneria Marconi (PFM) kzbin.info?search_query=pfm+l%27isola+di+niente that gripped me enormously. This mixture of classic, a very smooth lovesong, free Jazz or something like that and "normal" Jazzrock all that played with such technical and musical virtuosity let me buy some more albums... And now I switch over to my BAND-MAIDs, who are touring through the USA, to look after some new fancams. In spite of my pleasure, to listen to old stuff, I´ve been always interested in new bands around tha world, and now I landed in Japan, with that huge Rock Music Scene and lots of groups. I come back, when I find some rare stuff in my LP shelves. Many regards from Joki.

When I was young So, so much younger than today It seemed easier to lead your life There was no time to surrender And no reason to perceive The burden of pain As it passed through our lives every year somehow And it never (really) went away Yet behind my door Was a kingdom A secret outline showed the way To treasures of clay And beads made of glass
