Swedish progressive metal legends OPETH will release Garden of the Titans: Live at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on November 2nd via Moderbolaget Records / Nuclear Blast Entertainment. This historic event was captured for the DVD, Blu-Ray and Vinyl formats during their performance May 11th, 2017 at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver, CO. Both the DVD and Blu-ray formats include CDs containing the audio as well.
Video footage for Garden of the Titans was overseen by The Deka Brothers (CARPENTER BRUT, THE PRODIGY) and audio was mixed by David Castillo (KATATONIA, BLOODBATH). All versions feature the masterful artwork of revered artist Travis Smith (NEVERMORE, KATATONIA, TESTAMENT).
Fans can now pre-order various formats at nuclearblast.co....
Garden of the Titans: Live at Red Rocks Amphitheatre track listing:
01. Sorceress (live)
02. Ghost Of Perdition (live)
03. Demon Of The Fall (live)
04. The Wilde Flowers (live)
05. In My Time Of Need (live)
06. The Devil's Orchard (live)
07. Cusp Of Eternity (live)
08. Heir Apparent (live)
09. Era (live)
10. Deliverance (live)
Always an unstoppable force for uniqueness amid a sea of generic swill, OPETH has been setting the rulebook ablaze, and ploughing a uniquely progressive and exploratory furrow for over 25 years now. Neither conforming nor exhibiting any desire to be restricted to a single genre, OPETH, quite simply, has a time honored tradition of blowing our minds with both class and forward thinking. All these years later, nothing and everything has changed once again with their most recent album, Sorceress.
Sorceress was released in September 2016. For the band's first effort for Nuclear Blast via OPETH's imprint label Moderbolaget Records, the group returned to Rockfield Studios in Wales, also home to pivotal releases from QUEEN, RUSH and JUDAS PRIEST, where the Swedes had tracked Pale Communion in 2014 with Tom Dalgety.

@@AntonNidhoggr having listened to both, I agree that sound was superior on Opeth. I am not much of mixing expert but I tried to explain to myself that with DT there's just too much going on on each instrument at some places, that it's impossible to mix properly :)

@@Khazandar if I may chime in at a much later date, I actually live in Denver, CO. and I've been to one or two, or 30... shows up at red rocks amphitheater, and the acoustics are astounding. I mean the sound is unbelievable. Most live recordings at red rocks are taken right through the board and Need little to no post production. I can't describe it to someone who has never seen a show there, but I'm telling you, aside from tweaking out some crowd and background noise, this is pretty much raw audio.

Also, sticking with Prog, I'll recommend Caligulas Horse, they're an Aussie prog band with clean vocals, start with the song Graves and you'll hear the Pink Floyd influence! Added bonus they also opened for Opeth here in Aus!

I don't know man, it's not bad but definitely not anything legendary. This mix has many good points, but I can definitely name a few bad ones. Barely any bass, high notes on the guitars are sloppy, soundscape is imbalanced, no harmony between the instruments. It's as if the sound is organic, but at the same time it neither sounds as if you're standing in the audience, nor as if you're listening to it on record -- maybe the producer couldn't decide where to go with it? It's just not there yet. Performance is great tho. Edit: spelling

Man, always impressed by Mikael's guitar playing. He's no shredder or guitar god, but he's far better than most guitarists and that's still underestimating his playing. He's clean, controlled, his solos suit the pieces and are often very cool. But above all that, his compositions are filled with amazing atmospherics, beautiful chord progressions, often heartbreakingly dark or melancholy...

Video editor more than cinematographer because I think this is not scripted, obviously, so they might have had 100s of videos from different angle. They would've sat down and chose best clips from each angle for each part of the song, synched it with the live audio, then color graded and added simple effects to make it like a movie. The video indeed looks like a movie and they have done a great putting everything together.

to all the people talking about the sound guy...this is a from a Live DVD that Opeth released, not from a musical festival or something like that. The guitars, drums, bass, keys, and vocals were recorded at this show and then brought to a studio and professionally mixed. This isn't the live sound-guy's mix straight off the board like you would hear will festival footage.
