I have a very hard time believing that a radio personality doesn't have the free will option to leave a company/station if his/her contract has expired, even if that employer wants to match, or even outbid another offer. Under what legal authority would that occur? They aren't in a union, like the NBA Players' Association, in which a right to match offers to restricted free agents exists. The only way that would be the case is if it was written into the previous contract that had expired, although it is iffy that that could even be enforced if that very contract had expired.

Wow, the irony of that Stern clip that the caller called in with. In the clip he says he doesn't want to be living on his giant ranch doing a radio show from home that he's making his listeners pay for, That's literally what he's doing now, I always notice from when I flip over to his channel now on Sirius XM that he's either on a 3-month vacation or broadcasting from his house. He will be the last broadcaster to go back to the radio station but I have an odd feeling that he never will and this will be the way he ends. He's going to do the show from home, terrified of covet while broadcasting from his house in his '70s. Also what I think is odd, is that once things started opening up and people started going back to work in the seriusXM offices when a gas or a collar would ask Howard when he plans on rejoining the rest of the world or going back to the offices to broadcast he gets angry and calls them stupid or changes the subject, I think this pandemic is going to be the thing that ends him for good. Once his contract is up I think he will retire from satellite and I think part of it will be because he's never going back out into the world again because he's still afraid of catching the flu.
