Oprah & Fantasia Have Emotional Full-Circle Moment with Jennifer Hudson | The Color Purple

Jennifer Hudson welcomes Fantasia Barrino Taylor, Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, and Phylicia Pearl Mpasi from “The Color Purple” movie to the show. Producer Oprah Winfrey joins the cast as she recalls interviewing Jennifer on her own show when she was promoting “Dreamgirls.” Fantasia and JHud reflect on their “American Idol” journey, plus Danielle Brooks talks about stepping into Jennifer’s shoes on Broadway. The new musical adaptation of “The Color Purple” will open in theaters on December 25.

She’s had opportunities and with her talent, she’ll have several more. JHud is great but the casting couldn’t be more perfect for this movie! Sure, there may be better actors, singers, etc out there… but you can’t recreate the bond/family that they have. It’s almost magical. JHud is exactly where she’s supposed to be and the rest of them are too. That’s how life works.💜✨

I agree. I feel like Sherri spun that whole moment and tried to trap Oprah into making it seem like it was meant for her specifically. She took that soundbite and ran with it for clout. I think Oprah really meant it for all the ladies she's inspired in Daytime TV. I doubt that she would've singled out Sherri or any host in particular so publically, knowing that there are other women, esp Black women in the talk show space, who are holding their own and doing well. Either way, Jen doesn't have to concern herself with such desperate measures. She'll be fine.

I love this but I kinda wish it had just been Tasia as there’s so much that connects them. The fact that they both got their start on Idol as two do the “three divas”, both went on to successful Grammy winning artists ( they even have a duet on Jennifer’s debut album), both got made their Hollywood debuts on projects produced by Oprah, both were close with Queen Aretha and sang at her funeral and they been compared at various points of their careers and have never dissed each other. It would have been great to see them chop it up as girlfriends.
