I actually found the Hasbro Version at Toys R us for 100 bucks, but my parents couldn't afford it at the time. To this day, I still remember it, especially because for the longest time, this was the peak Optimus Prime and it's still considered a classic. Thank you so much for this. I consider myself a Metal Earth fanatic and needed this so bad because they got the 2 flap things on his back, one on the left and the other on the right of his back's compartment for his gun wrong. in the Metal Earth one, they're wrongly flapped down (an to be consistent with their mistake the outside facing side is even printed with the 8 circle dot design!), when they should have been flapped up. Without your vid i would have NEVER figured it out. I would have went crazy trying to figure out WHAT THE HECK ARE THOSE FLAP THINGS HANGING BELOW HIS GUN COMPARTMENT!!!!!!!. Now i know exactly how to mod them so the flaps correctly to show not only the already printed side with the eight circles, but also the side with the headlights and parts of the bumper. It's a good looking truck, but it is not a Peterbilt FL86. The blue half of this truck is too big, and the front looks too modern to be an '84 semi truck. The most accurate Optimus truck, in my opinion, is the G1 toy. That said, though, this is a very good figure. I just feel they could have been more accurate with the truck. Definitely an improvement from MP-01, but still not too accurate.

***** That's the thing, though. They did the transformation perfectly, in my opinion. Just the truck's aesthetics don't really match the real-life truck. And yes, neither did the cartoon model, but the cartoon model was based off of the toy, and the toy was a (rough but accurate) model of a Peterbilt that turned into an 80s-era fighting robot. All's I'm saying is, this toy is fantastic (and so are your reviews :) ) but the truck mode's aesthetics look more modern to me than an 80's Peterbilt.

great video thanks i have a optimus prime the person i brought it from said he had owned it for 10 yrs. its on a cool talking stand. its similar but not the same as the ones you have shown in this video.it even came with instructions on how to" transform" but i still havent managed to do that. i am going through you tube videos looking for a helpful video about this model but no luck yet. these transformers are incredible real quality build. brilliantly designed.it looks great standing on my table next to my computer.

Thanks for the high production values and detailed review! Agree a lot with your assessments--especially the eyes. I prefer the more muted MP-10 colors myself, but I'd find it difficult to live with those cold, black eyes. Roller is excellent, but I feel the trailer could have used a lot more color and detail (compare to G1 trailer!).

Cartoon roller was sliver, not blue. I don't know why but it seem Takara makes their version more show accurate while Hasbro usually goes with the G1 toy deco. Guess it gives us more tigons which is great. Awesome review.

Great review of MP Optimus Prime, I'm so glad I found this at Toys r us, so happy I don't have to deal with getting it from Ebay and 3 days later I brought the receipt back and got a discount 30% off!!! ok now to my comments. 1) it's to bad he doesn't come with the megatron gun like previous models. 2) Did anyone notice that the front grill in Truck mode is completely different from the front grill in robot mode? I noticed that in the video, not a big deal but kind of interesting.

Since I heard that the T"R"U version was being released in October, I arrived at the store when they opened just about every day, and it payed off. I managed to actually get him and I have to say, I prefer the lighter Hasbro colors over MP-10's. It looks nicer and at $100 bucks, worth every cent. Also, great review.

I think Roller was only silver/grey in the Diaclone series and maybe a handful of early Hasbro Primes. Definitely for the toy catalogue and instruction manual but I'm pretty sure the toys were blue for the most part in Transformers.

this version look and transforms really good. better than the original. my only pet peeves about any MP prime is that i hate how you have to spin the legs around to transform. i've always hated transforms that transforms like that. its like when they go to battle they stand up facing the opposite way. its dumb!!! i do like how the back wheels now have a cover in robot mode. i was glad that they finally added that. i hope in the next version, some toy company will be brave enough to fix the spinning torso tranformation and transform frontward like the OG 1984 optimus prime.

Hello, You mention in this video that you were wondering what was going on with that area just a bit above the knee. From what I can see here, it looks like it was intended to open up in some way in Japan & perhaps it had to do with some kind of missile launchers that would not be OK for sale here in the States. So, they did not put that part in & just sealed it shut for the American market. It was cheaper then re-tooling the entire mold.

Semi trucks can actually turn into their trailers to the point that the cab smashes into the side of the trailer, which is called a jackknife. The fifth wheel of a truck and kingpin of a trailer will never be spaced such that the front of the trailer contacts the rear of the cab. Generally speaking, most trailers have a bit of tape on the side that marks off the point where the trailer is situated at 90° to the cab, so the driver cab spot it in the mirror while backing or maneuvering. All articulated trucks under non-permit loads are capable of at least 180° of articulation, or 90° to each side, and most can achieve around 100° before jackknifing. Tl;dr: Optimus' turning radius is not indicative of real-world articulated trucks. It's a minor design oversight that kind of irks me personally, as a professional truck driver (trucker to you four-wheelers), but isn't terribly significant to most people. I can overlook it, though, considering how otherwise well designed he is.

with a little skill in paint application, one could actually make their own version of nemesis prime from the takara version.... for those who don't know, nemesis prime was basically the evil clone of optimus, they often do this gimmick a lot in the 80's and 90's. but every other version of nemesis was another kind of truck. in this it would make a bit more sense if he were an exact double. soo yeah, just my fan thoughts on this toy set

I can't believe I gave away a nearmint condition of the full G1 Optimus Prime with trailer and roller to a kid that almost smashed everything up, like 20 years ago. My shelf has never forgiven me since then.

You’re wrong on Roller. The original toy came with a blue Roller. The cartoon featured a gray/silver Roller.

I'm in Omaha Nebraska. The reason they had so many is because he was still boxed up on top of a shelf that was 12 feet up. I wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't called them first.
