I was fortunate to be a member of Dr. Doug's program, and I have to say, his team is absolutely wonderful. However, the program is quite expensive, with costs for blood tests, supplements, and monthly fees adding up quickly. After spending several thousand dollars, I unfortunately had to make the difficult decision to stop. I truly wish I could have continued, as I believe in the value of the program and the results it offers.

I just started doing heel droops and do not find them difficult. Would adding hand weights be even more beneficial?
@donnaryan718 күн бұрын
I'm not Dr Doug obvs but think I can answer this. Any time you add load, it stresses the muscle/bones/tendons which is what you want to stimulate growth. However the key is to go slowly and very gradually; loading too quickly can cause more problems than it solves. So the answer is yes, adding more weight would be beneficial, but be very conservative, I would start small with fractional weights in your pockets; in the beginning it should still feel easy and maybe spend about a week on each weight, going up in small increments - smaller than you would like to. The reason why is stress is cumulative - that is, on day one you might be able to do 50 drops with 2 x 250 gram plates in your pockets, but by day 7, your body has accumulated stress from this increased load over time. This then makes it slightly more susceptible to injury. Over time is the key. You do not then want to suddenly jump to 1kg hand held weights because the former was so easy. You want to be cautious because you need to take into account the effect of cumulative exercise stress. There will come a point where you can move up more quickly because you will have a base-line of muscle/tendon/bone strength and resilience, but for the first few weeks/months, take it really slow but just trust the process. If you have had any kind of fractures it would be best to talk to a doctor or a physio who specialises in bone health. Did I do good Dr Doug?

I can't follow my osteoporosis with bone density because of osteophytes of severe osteoarthritis. I felt awful on synthetic thyroid replacement. I finally take a natural product, NP thyroid . It's important to understand that carnivores often have a decrease in T3. It's so hard to find docs who understand this! I went to some doctors and they told me just to supplement vitamin D and that they cant really do anything about it because i am too young for medication. Would you agree with them or is there a medication that suits younger patients? They told me that medication could harm me because in my age there is too much rebuilding going on in the bones. They said that they would only do something about it in case i have fractures. Thats really frustrating... Best wishes from austria

I'm doing better without drugs...don't have all the markers and "proof" because I'm having to piece meal my program, but I watched all of Dr Doug's videos, read comments on osteoporosis pages, and did not listen to my doctors (who I'm now afraid to see, because they think I'm crazy (if they care enough to think about me/my situation at all, but you know what I mean,) and basically I'm doing everything I can afford to do. Was diagnosed in January 2023, age 61, almost 62. My spine came in at -4.6, hip -3.3, femoral head -3 5. I didn't have any documented fractures at that time but after discovering I was two inches shorter, and because back injuries were my reason for getting a DEXA (we asked for it,) I figured fractures had already occured. After diagnosis, I acquired two that we did find, and in-between, a more precise x-ray found two I believe I've probably had for years. In January 2024 I had a repeat DEXA at my request. My spine came in at -3.9, femoral head at-3.4, and hip at -3.1. Same machine, different tech. He seemed to think this was a great showing! He showed me the images (obviously I don't know but even before he told me the score, I thought I could see that my bones looked more dense,) and gave me the percentage change. He didn't act like there "must be some error," but why would he? A new "functional medicine" doctor I saw after this DEXA sadly burst my bubble by saying the DEXA machine isn't calibrated for scores "in the polar regions" and there was no way my scores improved that much, though he granted that it was a positive that they didn't get worse. I've no idea if he would have said they were wrong had I been on drugs-- didn't think to ask-- but I have a feeling he would have still taken them as evidence the drugs were working even if we couldn't trust the score itself. Still, I don't think my hip is in "the polar region" and by my calculation, it improved by 6%. I read that it has to be at least 5% to be "significant" so--there you go. Whether I'm actually building bone or not losing it so quickly or not, I haven't fractured in over a year despite falls (we had an ice storm!) and a car accident that slammed me into my door ribs first. I've also improved some other markers though (I am working with a naturopath.) Maybe the biggest improvement is in thyroid antibodies. I know doctors don't think that means anything either but it makes sense to me that you're going to feel better if antibody counts aren't off the charts. Probably the biggest reason for this is that I've gone mostly gluten-free and have gotten serious about other aspects of gut health. I'm also much stronger. It is unquestionably difficult to find the right way to exercise/bear weight/build strength once you've had fractures. The two post-diagnosis fractures appeared during efforts to strengthen my core, so clearly, I have to learn the hard way. But I have found that I can wear a weighted backpack (I use trekking poles, too,) at 10% of my body weight without issue. Weighted vest, not so much. That does feel like it's crushing me. I can do farmer's carry, currently at about 84 pounds (42 in each hand,) but I was up to 100 pounds before the accident. (I overdid things, had to back off.) I can use the machines at the gym (if I go,) and if I need to get my heart rate up, the stairclimber is very effective. I use the vibration plate I got at a pre-run vendor fair about 6 years ago, lift light weights while I'm on it (it eliminates any temptation to twist.) Intermittently I'll do heel drops and other suggested exercises but this is what I do consistently (oh, and dead hang.) I wish I could get a DEXA again this January but really, the best proof is in quality of life. I still have more pain "for nothing" than I ever dreamed I'd have at this age, but last year I was thinking about getting on disability. This year, that seems stupid. I'm doing much, much better.

I'm very glad this patient improved her bones but I've heard many stories of people improving their bones on a carnivore or meat heavy diet but I don't want to eat that way, can we please hear stories of improving their bones without having to eat a lot of meat?? Even if a carnivore diet can cure osteoporosis I don't want to eat that way not only because I can't afford it but I just don't want to,, I'll be miserable eating a high meat diet, I barely tolerate eggs and fish, I like dairy dairy is okay but I don't know if having dairy alone would help reverse osteoporosis it seems like everyone glorifies meat as being the cure All
@donnaryan718 күн бұрын
if it's not a diet you want to eat , then you're not going to stick to it, it's not going to work for you, is it? I too would be miserable eating a high meat diet; I don't particularly like meat, never have but I'm not vegan, either. I've not seen any osteoporosis expert claim that we must eat a carnivore diet to improve bone health. I'm sure they are out there but I'm not getting the general impression that a carnivore diet is what they all recommend as an 'eat this or die ' rubric. Meat as a cure-all was glorified in the 1800's...then it went to grains and rice in the late 70s-80s, then it went to fat free, then it went back to Atkins....now it's vegan vs carnivore..live long enough and you get to see these trends come and go. And you can watch a gazillion side by side YT videos with people arguing either way vegan vs carnivore, low fat vs high fat, and they will all have compelling arguments and 'research' to back them. Pick a side. Be careful of your sources. The 'everyone glorifies meat' feeling is because that's likely what the algorithm is throwing your way or that's what's predominantly grabbing your attention. I don't have a horse in this race so I don't claim to know, but I do know extremes come and go and that ultimately you need to find a diet you can live with. Personally I think eating highly processed food and fizzy drinks is far more damaging to bones than any diet of food that grows in the ground or had a mother. Perhaps talking to a dietician who works with people with osteoporosis would help reassure you and design a program that works for you.
@MariaBrinks258 күн бұрын
@donnaryan71 , speaking of extreme diets there's a KZbin channel called "Living on chocolate pudding". Even though this lady on this KZbin channel doesn't eat any meat I would never eat her die either I think it's a diet that will lead to osteoporosis But if I had to pick and choose between a carnivore diet or a vegan diet I would be so much happier eating a vegan diet But I know the importance of having some animal foods, it's not that the KZbin channel is dedicated to osteoporosis are saying you have to eat a carnivore diet to improve your bones but it does seem to be the main message, it's mostly been patients and I've seen too many comments claiming "eating a meat heavy keto or carnivore diet improved my bones". And although I'm happy for them I don't want to do that diet even if it was the number one cure because I will be so unhappy angry and miserable Plus it's very expensive too, but even if I could afford to eat meet every day I wouldn't do it! That's why I want to see stories of people saying they improve their bone health and they ate a regular but healthy balanced diet, my diet is basically a balanced diet of whole foods I try to get enough protein but from both plants and animal sources and I just hope that this is good enough to improve my bones It's a lot better than the diet I was eating before that's for sure
