Thank you so much for posting that. I just ordered a black 01 and I am so looking forward to it, especially after seeing your video. I, too, chose the blind 102mm burrs.

Looks good. I saw an EG-1 in person and was a little shocked at how large it was...then i heard the 01 is even larger on counter 😟 Had an MC4 which had nice slim form factor and workflow. I really want to buy into the 01 experience, but boy oh boy that thing is CHONKY...
@conoryoutubing10 ай бұрын
Even larger on the counter? Where did you hear that? It's almost 4 inches (96mm) shorter, 2.95 inches (75mm) thinner and only 0.8 inches (30mm) deeper. Might even be shallower as the Weber measurements only account for the base depth, not how far back the top goes. From the pictures that I've seen, it reasonably fits under counter top cabinets. Its a big one, that's for sure... not quite EG1 Chonky territory though. 😃

how have you found the retention on this grinder? i’m looking for a true zero retention grinder ideally with no RDT, would you say it can do that?
@FerchoVallese4 ай бұрын
Zero retention, no need for RDT. It has an ion generator so static is eliminated.

I absolutely love the workflow and build quality of this grinder but wonder if it would be madness to get it for someone who favors medium and sometimes dark roasts and favors body and sweetness over clarity and acidity. I know large flat burrs are “supposed” to be used for the latter… but I really like this grinder design. And your shot had nice viscosity and crema… thoughts?
@FerchoVallese10 ай бұрын
Bodywise it’s been great. Better body than the key while keeping high clarity. Haven’t tried with dark roasts so can’t comment there, but medium and light roasts work great. Very happy so far.

Still looks top-heavy and out of balance, but overall, much better aesthetics that the P100. I highly doubt 99.9% of people could tell any difference between the output of this grinder relative to the p64, but if you have money to burn, why not?

@FerchoVallese10 ай бұрын
Hi! So did some tests and have the following observations. 1) 01 is easier to dial than both the key and atom 2) workflow is nicer than key and atom. 3) Taste: high clarity without losing body. 4) had to run some beans a bit hotter than usual to get the same flavour I was used to. Need more tests. 5) I like the cup workflow more than the portafiler + dosing funnel. Although it’s very nice they included both options. 6) retention is basically non existent. Atom had tons of retentions unless you do a lot of modifications to make it a proper single dose grinder. Key is also nice workflow and no retention but the “funnel” is small and you have to be careful when dropping beans. 7) all in all I prefer the taste of 01. Can’t give a final review as I have only tested with espresso, not pour over or another method.

Very clear taste, amazing separation of notes. At the same time, any defect in roast or bean quality will show. No stalling at all. Motor seems plenty strong.

Did a few V60 and Moccamaster brews with it. Amazing clarity, would say even better than the Key. Very easy to dial and the grind distribution is really tight.

is it able to grind fine enough for slayer style shots with light roasts? and do you think this style of shot works well with the grinder?

Yes, great shots using the decent and slayer style profiles. I'm particularly enjoying the advanced lever profile lately with the 01.
@chrisg163111 ай бұрын
how does the shot thickness and clarity compare to the key grinder?

Better in both aspects! Easier to dial in too (with the key I had to break in with about 5kg before I got good and consistent shots).

The Motor ist soo loud! Wow
@FerchoVallese11 ай бұрын
It's louder than the key and atom, which I find one of the quietest grinders I've tried. However, I don't think is too bad (shouldn't wake a kid sleeping in another room).

@@jeffm6789 yes, it’s louder in the video. Also, the noise goes way down when placing a plate on top. I think I’ll design a 3D printable lid to dampen the sound.
