Orange Dark Terror Sounds

This is my new Orange Dark Terror, it goes jun jun jun. Just a quick video of the various sounds. I hope you can see the gain and shape knobs as I change them, I had to keep my iPhone away from the amp. The vibrations were knocking it over. It's on the 15 watt setting and the volume is on full for the first clean bit, and half for crunch/high gain. Enjoy!

@Jack Smith It's very easy, it shows you in the manual how to hook it up to a 4, 8, or 16 ohm cab. I had mine connected using both 8 ohm outputs as this cab was an 8 ohm stereo cab. Almost any cab will connect up just fine.

I'm sure you could, the way I usually dial in a desired setting is to start with the gain at zero, and bring it up slowly while tweaking the eq.

I find it very easy. Just really low gain with more volume. The pickups in this guitar are high output too, and I was really bashing the strings at the start of the video to demonstrate that it can do clean.

@xAllSoClear If you were the only guitarist and your drummer wasn't a heavy hitter I suppose, but almost every venue I play mics up the cab. This amp is astonishingly loud. The clean in this video was shaking the DVDs on the shelves behind.

To me, it does. I took it to practice and it just about made it to the same volume as the other guitarists JVM, but no matter where I set the shape knob, the sound didn't really change that much coz it was dimed, and I couldn't get it to 'stand up straight' in the mix. If I had known that the Jim Root signature model was gonna have a 3 band eq I would have waited. Don't get me wrong, though. This is a cracking amp, I can always throw a boss ge7 in the loop (7 band!!).

My favourite riff to play with this amp is D.O.A from VHII. I like all the bands you mentioned, and this amp in my opinion suits the style perfect. I can't really comment on the OR15 or the regular TT, but I know that the DT was designed for hard rock and heavy metal.

I would personally run a Jim Root terror straight to the house in a gig. The JRT has great clean tones though if you back off the volume, but if I had to go with an A/B I would use a fender amp as my clean tone amp and the JRT as my dirty tone. Split it to the house monitors and you've got your dream rig. Just add in your personal effects that you've collected over the years

It should work with any 4x12, there are two 8ohm speaker outputs and one 16ohm speaker output. The manual shows you which way to hook it up depending on what your cabinet takes.

@mongoose979 Thanks!! Well, I think a 4x12 is better for band situations by far, especially with the dark terror. This cab gets a lot of band use. If I was on my own I'd have a 2x12. 70/80s are amazing. I'd close them over anything else I've heard.

It's 3 pre-amp valves and 2 poweramp valves. I put the amp as clean as I could get it and ran a Fulltone OCD in front of it and it sounded great. I have never used the ml-2 with it so I don't know if that would sound good.

I think it's fine if you are the only guitarist, but if there is a second guitarist and you need a boost to cut through the mix for a solo, you need more watts. Great sounding amp, needs a noise gate if you have it turned up loud. Hisses a lot.

@Elmonsterhombre If you use a pedal for distortion through a clean amp, forget the terror. This amp's volume also depends on how much gain you dial in. If you have the gain on 2, and run a distortion pedal through the clean terror, you will definitely not be heard over a full band. I would say Crush = Versatility, Terror = Tone.

Don't get a high gain amp if you're just going to throw a distortion pedal in front of it and back it up for the cleans. I'd say get a two channel amplifier. Make sure you go into the store and test it out on both clean and dirty with your personal gear, make sure it sounds great on both and then buy an A/B switch. That's the way to go, at least in my opinion.

Oliver Weiss Its essentially an EQ curve knob. So all the way to the right, mids are cut whereas bass and treble are boosted. To the left, mid frequencies are boosted and the bass and treble are cut.
