The New Culture Forum

Күн бұрын

Amid the ideological madness and hysteria currently besieging the West, many conservatives view Hungary as a land of sanity and common sense. Hungary's measured approach to immigration, its patriotic cultural policies and its promotion of the traditional family have angered much of the establishment in Britain and the EU. But for traditionalists and conservatives, Hungary reminds them of how the West used to be.
Why is Hungary so unfairly demonised? And how has it managed to remain steadfast in the face of such widespread international opposition? How successful are its policies? And what, if anything, can we in Western Europe and America learn from Hungary in restoring our own culture, institutions and politics?
In this special documentary recorded in Hungary, the New Culture Forum explores the real Hungary. Presented by Peter Whittle.

I'm Australian, and considered by world standards to live in a democracy. In most of the country it is impossible to work in any field unless you are medically experimented upon every three months or so. In at least one territory you can be forcibly, vaccinated and/ or removed from your home and kept in solitary confinement in the purpose built concentration camps our taxes paid for, in which one lady has already died. You can be arrested and even jailed, for reading the Bible aloud as the Bible is recognised as hate speech towards gay and trans people. All this happened under a conservative government, whose Prime Minister was publically praised for using covid to advance the WEFs goals for the Reset. Our opposition party opposes nothing, so we have no effective democratic solution. Our first plane load of Ukrainian refugees were sent straight to a concentration camp for solitary confinement for covid breaches. When 500 000 Australians peacefully protested the way we are being treated, they were fired upon with sonic weapons, causing radiation burns and other injuries. Now tell me again about democracies, and authoritive governments.

@@lani6647 Hardly a fair or realistic comparison. Hungary (and Orban) always stand firm for their national principles, their residents and their shared identity - even in the face of international criticism. India has no discernible national principles, other than the preservation of wealth among the decadent ruling elite - whether that be in terms of international dealings, or the ongoing premeditated repression of its own underclass. The completely different atmosphere and ambience between the two countries, entirely reflects this difference in priorities and attitudes amongst those in power. If India had been the first example of a Capitalist Democracy, it is not certain that any others would ever have wished to emulate and recreate that model elsewhere in the world.

We got captured by international finance in 1945. International finance has been the bulwark for Liberalism and open borders Globalisation. The Right went for Capitalism not Nationalism. We failed to use the power of the nation state to control international finance, now international finance controls the nation state. We need to focus on localism. Long-term bulkanization coming.

As a schoolboy in the fifties and sixties, I recall how Hungarian children would appear in my Catholic school and devour the education on offer. Children of the post-war wave of Polish immigration did the same. Where did they go? Nowhere, of course. They became model citizens, conspicuous only by their absence from headlines. I have every faith in the Hungarians' capacity to put the decadent nations to shame.

@@mariahewitt9787 What conditions? Every major political views is represented by the media, there are many opposition media products criticising Orbán and the government all day long. Orbán is an anti-communist, so it is strange to accuse him of building a Soviet Union in Hungary. People are free to express themselves, whatever views they may have. The current government is conservative, true, yet, today we have free elections, that were never a trait of the Soviet Union. So, can you elaborate with a few examples of how is the Prime Minister taking back the conditions of the USSR? Please note that the communists are in the opposition, MSZP is a direct descendant of MSZMP, the one-party of communism that ruled up to 1989. DK is a relatively new party, branching out from MSZP. So, how is the Sovietization occurring? I'm asking you as a Hungarian, so you, as a non-Hungarian may enlighten me about this.

Hungarians are proud to be so and clearly love their home grown culture. Nothing wrong with that, we should encourage that here in the UK, proud to be British. Trouble is that's not the agenda in the UK and indeed being positive about it is actively discouraged. The woke and cancel culture that exists in the UK is a form of fascism - aggressively denying your right to have a voice whilst labelling you far right just for being a patriot.

I live in Hungary and know the truth, but You don't. You don't know much about what is Orban's politics really. With Orban HUNgary is on the descent, while he won't educate the people because he can win with votes of the very poor and such people who have not much true information about the country. Last weekend more than 20000 people experienced that how the lies of the government worked by the very simple people (who cannot understand the country and the World). In the last few years more and more country develop better than HUngary, because of the government and corruption (highest corruption in the EU). The government lied very much using the state TV (poor people and most of the people living in villages watch only that); that state TV channel is propaganda channel and "party TV". The government perfectly use what Goebbels told about the propaganda: they should tell the lies thousand times and the people will think that's the truth. Do you know, that 40% of the people who vote for Fidesz (government) think that is true what the russian propaganda tells. Today I's read that one of the experts of the government told in a TV that the russians try to watch for the civil people, while the truth is that the russians purposely killed the civil people. The people who follows independent websites, news experience that for years the government tells what the ruissian propaganda tell, that's why I think more and more people think that Brussel is against Hungary (while the oligarchs of the government "stole" billion HUFs from the money that EU gives to HUngary) and we have be friendly with Russia (the country that's soldiers purposely shot residential houses, hospitals, schools, and civil people. etc. UNderstanding the propaganda I'm afraid that Hungary won't be the member of the EU within 4-6 years. The not well educated people think (because of the propaganda) that Brussel is the main enemy, opponent. I'm fed up with listening that Hungary has to battle with Brussels and I'm fed up that we can't hear what the problem with what Russia does. Hungary is the betrayer of the EU and the country that represents / act for the Russian interests in the EU.

I love the Hungarian people and found myself in Orban's Hungary, albeit for a day, enroute to see Black Sabbath in Vienna a couple of years ago. It was a beautiful place back in the day but what has happened under Fidesz is hard to believe. Budapest is by far the cleanest, most well functioning Euro capital I have ever been in. An excellent programme, well produced and full of useful insights into a government/culture under which I would be pleased to live and certainly more so than under our current too blinkered political governance. Overall the West and in particular in our case the Anglosphere, has lost its way with no notion other than some undefined and unreasoned utopian ideal, of where it is heading. Australia, Canada, UK, USA, NZ are all on a similar confused path - all heading for 'net zero' which will be zero in all senses as there will be nothing left. I hope Hungary keeps to its path of traditional concepts and that others will consider returning to these ageless roots of nationhood. Mr Whittle's comments that the ferocity of western criticism aimed at Hunagry is closely related to Hungary's success has much veracity. Viva Hungary and the NCF.

Why we all don't enjoy cultural & social links with them is a mystery. Their greatest national poet from (our)Victorian times wrote a ballad about their failed 1848 rebellion under the Austrians but masked it as Wales under Edward I. They stage musicals about Robin Hood & Sherlock Holmes.

That's not truew. I live in HUngary and know. IN HUngary the 1st is the propaganda; the government don't want to lift the people up, while the government knows that stupid and not well educated people will believe that they lie. That worked during the campaign. THey perfectly follows that Goebbels knew how the propaganda is working. HUngary has the highest corruption in the EU, the education reached its end and only Bulgaria is behind us thinking about the level of economy; other countries overcame HUngary. That's the truth.

@@gyorgyigabor "while the government knows that stupid and not well educated people will believe that they lie" So, the people voting for the other side are "stupid" according to you. Also, when you say that they - we - are not well-educated, you display your lack of knowledge in terms of English grammar. So, if I, a FIDESZ voter am stupid and not well-educated, how come that I'm much more fluent in English than you? "THey perfectly follows that Goebbels knew how the propaganda is working." It is very very simple. We did not want the opposition to form the new government, because they have shot at people in 2006 who were protesting against the government that turned out to be lying in the morning, evening and night. Probably on the afternoons they had a siesta. This opposition also called Hungarians in Transcarpathia "Russian-friendly", which is equal with incitement against it. This same opposition destroyed the Hungarian economy between 2002-2010 while they were on power. This opposition formed an alliance with Jobbik, a party famous for its anti-Gypsy and antisemitic rhethoric. This opposition actively worked to make sure that Hungary will not receive EU funds. This opposition actively incited against Hungarians in Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Ukraine in 2004. This opposition contains MSZP, the direct descendant of the communist party, MSZMP. The leader of this opposition said that the alliance led by him represents communists and fascists alike. "HUngary has the highest corruption in the EU" If everything is stolen, then how come that the wages increased, the GDP is increasing? The education may have reached its end for you, but not for the Hungarian nation as a whole.

Having lived in Eastern Europe during the first decade of the 2000s, I came to understand how these nations lived under post war communism and how that produced particular ways of thinking and seeing both their immediate world and the one that developed around them. Its impossible to explain fully or even partially for that matter, how their thinking is so different to ours. As an average Brit, the things that did stand out for me were how friendly people were and yet they seemed very reluctant to ever bear their soul to you, no matter how close a friend you may be. I always felt that no matter how friendly people were, there was always a feeling that under certain circumstances that friendship could be dropped immediately if they felt a situation warranted it. I also found them to be reluctant to ever talk openly about things like corrupt individuals. So, it constantly felt like individuals always kept a certain reserve as if still expecting the secret police to be listening for them (I dont know if that was the reason). I also witnessed that what appeared to be a close community & culture on the surface could also contain times at which someone well known to you could equally be drinking with you while stabbing you in the back at some point.... and even when caught, it wasnt openly spoken about in that community! Such things and much more made me realize just how differently Eastern Europeans think & act compared to say Brits. So, it seemed to be a case of , dont ever expect them to think like you, they just dont! So, I guess what Im saying in a long winded way is that I believe there is absolutely no way we Brits can expect to learn much, with any true understanding, from Eastern European nations when it comes to cultural/social values, attitudes and political actions undertaken by them. The gap in thinking and reasons behind actions is too wide and complex to truly understand, and therefore highly unlikely we could or would ever replicate their cultural & political actions. Although, many of the everyday values these people hold today, are the ones we in Britain used to hold? I agree with Hungary and would love to live there if I could :) Having said all this, I thank you for going to Hungary and producing this video, it is excellent and I commend you for going to these lengths. My sincere respect.

Thank you for this post and it does speak to some of my concerns here. Chiefly, while I fundamentally agree with Hungary and Orban's stance on cultural and ideological issues, do these really form the basis of everyday life for normal Hungarians? It's ok to show how beautiful Budapest is and the work that is being done, but it's a capital city. Ask normal Russians about Moscow and they'll say well it's stunning because it eats all the money! Here in the UK we see lots of Hungarian people seeking asylum. Why would this be if Hungary is such a fair place? I'm not suggesting it isn't (I would go to live there at the drop of a hat!) But maybe there are other things at play at ground level that aren't being discussed here in the documentary, such as local government corruption etc. So while I'm happy that it looks like well to do people seem to do ok (they always do), but I worry that the real story for everyday Hungarians is quite different. If love to hear from some, not least of all because Hungary is extremely attractive to people like myself. What is the real story at ground level?

I lived in France, then in Germany, then in Britain (South Yorkshire), then again in Germany. Living was much easier in all these countries, however in the first 2 countries I was not counted as equal, and I often felt I'm considered as lesser human being. May you never experience that feeling. In Britain it started the same but I saw and experienced that the traditional core values of my hungarian upbringing made me unique there. The natives were suspicous, but once they knew who I am really, I felt their respect. They invited me to their home, which was a great honour for me. I mean, when I invite in someone into my house, to sit with me and my family on Christmas and eat dinner with me that someone surely has my trust and respect. But what were these core values I think about? Unconditional respect for elderly people, and help them if they accept it. In general treat other people with respect even if they don't return it. ("It's not your certificate of poorness" as I was being told) Help those in need of it and expect nothing in return. Be hard-working. Be genuine and honest. Don't judge by the look and by the words of someone, but try to walk in their shoes and then judge by the deeds of the person. "Sober farmer thinking" ("Józan paraszti ész" in my native tongue which I can't translate to english. Maybe it's what my older colleagues and friends described to me as "common sense".) Also I'm from the first generation after the soviet era who was able to learn english (able=not prohibited) and my mother literally worked 4 jobs to finance a proper teacher and extra classes. I mean, after a brief 1 month hm, let's say "acclimatisation" I had no problems with communication in Yorkshire. So it was also a good point in the eyes of englishmen.

@B Daniel. Do you speak good French and German? If not, it made being accepted by the French and Germans more difficult. Generally speaking, they can be snobs if you don’t speak their language well. Also, feeling “lesser” may be a Hungarian thing, going all the way back to the humiliation suffered from Trianon....which, passed on from generation to generation, lives on in the hearts and minds of Hungarians. Nonetheless, to their credit, Hungarians prove again and again that they are an astute, well-informed and talented people! I live in Hungary and what you write is not true ! The last election proved this.

Another excellent program from the NCF. Budapest and Hungary in general is certainly on my list of places to visit. Thank you Peter and your team for shedding a light on this beacon of how life could be if we weren’t so squeamish and ashamed of our history here in the UK.

I don’t understand why multiculturalism means destroying cultural identity all over the World. The question is whether this rage against Hungary is routed in cultural differences or economical. The answer is, the economical dissent disguised as cultural. Orban is hated by the west because his economic policy is also very patriotic. He doesn’t let Hungarians be ripped off by certain globalist financial actors. And he is punished. Hungary has been economically punished. The globalists try to prove his policy is wrong and set example for those who disobey.

I am hungarian and I am afraid we will lose everything we have worked for in the last decade in the upcoming election. Sometimes I feel we are against the whole western world because we have different values... and the pressure will crush us :( Or if the opposite party wins the election, the whole well-functioning system will fall apart. Hope not, but it's very frustrating to live like this everydays...

Promote ethnic consciousness for native Europeans is the way back - you bet the liberals will call this renewed sense of identity and ethno-centrism as "racist" - maybe it is according to their theory, but that is what is needed for survival.

Ethnicity has less to do with it. Look at the big city progressive bubbles, all white British, yet they still hate their own culture and heritage... It's much deeper than that. It's Culture. It's the sum of many-many small, conscious and concentrated efforts towards a clear vision. The UK has no clear vision. Just wishes. That's not enough.

@@hoptenon ethnicity has everything to do with it because it's a small tribe of ethnic people waging war onto all the others. It has EVERYTHING to do with it. Our ethnicity and our Race is being attacked by all others. So don't be tricked into thinking it doesn't matter. To our enemies its the most important thing.

Peter, this is, in my view, your best production yet. It warmed my heart to see a nation which was dominated by others for so long doing what we used to do and should be doing still. I shudder at what is happening to our country and where it is being taken. I am much nearer to the end of my stay on this planet than to my arrival here just after WWII. I fear for the future of those younger than me. (and I'm NOT talking about the climate hysteria, more the budding communist uprising that is systematically destroying our society and it's historic values.)

Hang on a minute, this is not how things are done these days. Where is the verbal self flagellation? Hellfire, I have worked it out - the Hungarians are NORMAL! Imagine the UK government cabinet sitting round watching this and blushing at each other. As countries go down they will look at Hungary and say to themselves 'if only we had...'.
