I want you to try and do this. So I landed a craft in Ksp on a hill with a heat shield, Science Jr., and the Mk1 pod. I decided to topple the craft over and roll down the hill. While I was rolling my Science Jr. broke so I stopped but noticed my heatshield rolling down the hill ON IT'S SIDE! So I switched to it and watched it and when it came to a stop. IT FRICKIN STOOD ON IT'S SIDE!! I subbed for you so I want you to try and do that.

+Aurilio Camposeco Lol well a rescue mission may be needed, I have to admit I don't play career as it want in game when I started playing Ksp. If you have an extra seat then you could sent a small craft and your kerbal can return in the same craft. Or you could leave your kerbal there 😂 Rescue missions can be fun and may be worth it for the science

well there were parts of the mission that went wrong, ran out of fuel on my ascent, had to get out and push. but she got home alright. i wanted to reuse my tug for another mission but my pod had no heat shield and my tug had one on the bottom for braking so i had to destroy it in the atmosphere and undock when the fire stopped, it was a pretty eventful mission. only my second time bring a kerbal to duna and back, first with no fuel tank mods.^^ P.S.- i hit Kerbins atmosphere at 4 Km a second

Really enjoying your videos. Sadly it's getting me excited for Kerbal but I don't seem to have enough machine power to run it. I'm using an antique 2007 Core 2 Quad and a 2011 Geforce 560Ti. They're old but still manage to run some relatively modern games, but Kerbal is appallingly slow and lag ridden even as pure stock. I assume there's just a lot going on in the simulation and it's too much for my rig. Really need an upgrade!
@Orb8Ter9 жыл бұрын
James Duffy Kerbal is one of those games that uses a lot of processing power for simulation, there is a physics bar in the options menu could lower that and some graphics and see what happens worth a try. Im using a Geforce GTX 580 struggles slightly from time to time but its ok for Kerbal
@JDtheHutt9 жыл бұрын
Orb8Ter Thanks, I'll give it a try. It really struggles and takes ages just loading to the main menu though so not too hopeful. I'm also usually a mod monster in games but I think that's not an option here. Going to try just Engineer Redux, Docking Alignment, Alarm Clock and the new asteroid official one. Hopefully I'll get launching soon, watching through your Odyssey series in preparation.

Orb8Ter Seems to be working now. Tweaked the graphics down, have it fullscreen rather than windowed and fixed a missing font. It was also running as 64 bit for some reason and seems 32 bit actually loads and runs faster and with less stability issues. Working my way through career mode now!

The problem is that the parachutes can't open on career mode because aero forces and heat allways destroy before you deploy them
@Orb8Ter9 жыл бұрын
I use the same physics settings in sandbox mode as career, you need to be traveling slow enough for the chutes to be safe, problem on Duna the atmosphere is thin so you don't slow down much so you are either going to use high altitude chutes or rockets to slow down to a safe speed for parachute deployment.
@antonioklaic27409 жыл бұрын
+Chuck Norris physics in career mode are identical to sandbox, you only have to plan your flight the right way, slow down using your engines as you do when landing on Mun and Minmus and deploy chutes when you slowed down enough.
@alyosha1199 жыл бұрын
+Chuck Norris if you right click on the parachute the game will tell you if it is safe to deploy it.

So... how hard is it to land on Eve and come back?
@Orb8Ter9 жыл бұрын
Andreycs0 Very hard in fact I havent returned Kerbal from Eve yet :( landing is the easiest on Eve all you need is a parachute, but the gravity is higher than Kerbins and the atmosphere is very thick, for comparison you need around 4000m/s to get into Kerbin orbit for Eve orbit you need 6000m/s. So you need to send a large launcher to land on Eve so it would be best to launch multiple stages into Kerbin orbit first to make your massive ship (at least thats what I would do)
@firefox32499 жыл бұрын
Orb8Ter An orbit around Kerbin requires 2000-2500 m/s -.-

Hi, i can't seem to lose enough speed to open my parachutes and land. I am coming in at around 1500 m/s. I did add 4 extra science juniors on each FL-T400 fuel tank. Any tips how can get it too land?
@BrandyJr9 жыл бұрын
+Sebastiaan Nijenhuis Well, the easiest thing would be to target a higher periapsis for the aerobreak maneuver (try something around 15-20k depending on your speed and ship). That way you will only "close the orbit" the first time you enter the atmosphere and on the second round (or maybe even third) you will have bled off enough speed to actually land. "Drogue chutes" can be deployed at higher speed btw., but aren't as effective. A combination of drogues and normal ones, deployed in different stages, helps really well. :) But be careful with parachutes on Duna. I had cases, where they wouldn't open because of the low atmospheric pressure. You can (and should :D ) lower the min pressure of the chutes, in case you come down on a higher terrain.

Hi Orb8ter! I hope you will not mind some constructive criticism :) I guess The biggest thing that bugs me, is that design decisions you propose in this tutorial make sense for sandbox mode, but are quite inefficient for career. For starters: your ship did not include scientific equipment. For the tutorial to be "good" for career mode This should really be a part of Your design. Secondly: in career mode You should be a bit more concerned about reclaiming parts (returning them to Kerbin). You lander already had a dozen of chutes (to land on Duna), so why discard all the radial tanks, big tank and engine? Makes little sense... Thirdly: there are a couple things worth mentioning for the career tutorial as well. One is of particular importance: the CREW. it actually makes perfect sense to send three Kerbals to Duna, if they are at leat level 1 Pilot (can hold pro/retrograde), Scientist (huge benefit of being able to collect science from experiments and reset MaterialsBay & Goo for multiple uses during a single mission!) and Engineer (only he can repack chutes!). Hope You don't take these as your regular internet hate :). I honestly keep thumbs up for You and want to see Your tutorials getting better and better. I hope that You will find honest feedback useful. Keep up the good work!
@Orb8Ter9 жыл бұрын
Stanisław Grabowski No I like criticism :) Ok yes you have found my kryptonite I havent completed career, I started KSP when only in sandbox so got used to it, when I started career it was before everything was balanced so never completed it. I will keep that in mind about adding tips or something for the career player but I was more interested in showing how to say get to Duna which should be similar for most types of craft, Thanks for the feedback its great when I do I enjoy making these videos when I can and still new at it, Cheers :)

Anyone else having an issue with the chutes being destroyed at 400m/s?
@GamingRepublick7 жыл бұрын
Are they actually being destroyed? Like to the point of them exploding. Because for a long time i thought my chutes where getting destroyed because the icon would turn red in the staging area. That is just the game telling you that you are going too fast so if you deploy them now they will rip off. Once you slow down more the color will change back to white and they will work as normal.

Bro wtf. That's like the size of rockets I use to get to Mun and back. How are you so fuel efficient? That lander probe is what I would have designed for Mun
@Xenro669 жыл бұрын
Immortalcheese Ikr haha. My rockets are absolutely massive XD
@Orb8Ter9 жыл бұрын
The trick is to do your burns at the optimal times, though I learnt through trial and error. I'd build a rocket with just enough fuel and fail A LOT but rather than build a bigger rocket I'd fiddle with the design, try the mission differently untill it was successful (a lot of Kerbals paid the ultimate price for my stubbornness). And a note the more fuel you add then the mire fuel you will need to get that into orbit so rockets get big quick.
