Now those are bunch of lovely blooms. Lots of orchids that all look healthy and ones that if I had the space I would surely have. I can just imagine the fragrance that some of these blooms would put out. What an amazing orchid grower you are. As well as a mentor for me. Just thought I would let you know that two of my phals are putting out some bloom spikes as well as all the phals are growing leaves and lots of roots. My Dendrobium is putting out 3 new growths and Cat. is putting out lots and lots of new roots where the mature new growth is. It is all amazing watching nature grow. Have a great Day/evening.

Hi Annabelle, very lovely pink with white edging Miltoniopsis nice colors. I like the yellow in the Miltonia Sunset. The Phalaenopsis Zheng Min Pixels has such nice colors and its so cute. Oh wow look at the yellow on that Phalaenopsis Yaphon just beautiful. I do like the Phalaenopsis Joy Fairytale, but not sure how it would grow in my environment. Peach Phal. is so nice love it. Nice free gift orchid. I like the Vanda too. Thank you for sharing and congrates to the winner Tina K.

Hi Annabel, you orchids are amazing. When I watch your videos I almost want to put everything in self watering/semi hydro. Everything looks so lush and vibrant and those in bloom seem to have lots of blooms. I guess you feel this is a good long term way to grow orchids. The reason I say this is that some you tubers who once grew semi-hydro seem to have disappeared. Perhaps other factors such as feed lead to some decline there. Things seem to be great from what I see on your channel. I always enjoy watching. I guess in the end there are many ways to grow orchids. Have a great week!

Hi Lucy! Thanks! 😀 I think for sure it can work long term, but as well as orchids, people change, and something that worked for them to start may not be worth the maintenance long term (me and moss 😂 ). I guess we are all just trying to find the best way to grow orchids in all our different environments with all our different lives and schedules and what we can keep up with 🙂 Like you say anything can work, in the right situation or environment 🙂

Hi Anabel I am so glad you mentioned about the pink tone around pseudobulbs of Miltonia sunset. Mine had that and I was worried. Then I purchased a Miltonia Regnelii var xanthina and it had the same pink pseudobulbs. I didn't have purple rings just rosy pseudobulbs. I too figured it's a trait not the dreaded "F"!🤣🤣
@TheOrchidRoom4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I do think it's maybe a trait with some orchids 🙂 I feel like Fusarium is maybe better identified by a combination of symptoms, dehydrated bulbs that won't plump, wasting away, apparent inability to absorb nutrients, root / growth death for no other obvious reason, and the purple ring... Rather than just the purple ring 🙂
@hillbillyorchids4 жыл бұрын
@@TheOrchidRoom Yea I agree. But my Miltonia sunset came a great distance in the mail on very hot days. It took it time to come back also. Once it did it sent out 5 new growths that are doing great now. I was a little worried about the rosy pseudobulbs and the condition of the old pseudobulbs drying up. It was in a bad shape for a while at first. Then turned around. The Miltonia Regnelii I really thought had the dreaded "F" but it took right off without fail. So still makes you think.

Nice blooms as always! My Miltonia Sunset is spiking now. I love it. I guess it is not really common here in the US... Love Lou Snealy! From all the Lou Snealy I ve been watching. I guess mine is not.... some sort of Neo hybrid....🤔

There seems to be some variation in the Lou Sneary depending on what type of neo was used as the neo parent, so maybe yours is 🙂 Lovely fragrance!!

Lovely video Annabel! My Miltonia Sunset is fragrant, mostly during midday. It has a subtle fragrance like honey, and I agree, the fragrance just makes it better 🥰 I thought the Sunset wasn't fragrant but kept thinking that fragrance would make it evenbetter, and one day I caught it during mid day 🥰
@TheOrchidRoom4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ulla! Apparently, just to confuse me, there are two sunsets. One is Miltonia sunset, one is Milmiltonia sunset, they have separate entries in orchidroots and diff parentage 😂 I wonder if the sunset that has some miltoniopsis in is the fragrant variety? Very confusing!

I recently repotted my Miltonia Sunset, and was so happy when I saw growing root tips everywhere. She has now dumped most of her existing roots 😪 thankfully she is putting out new roots from the newest pseudobulbs, but I had hoped for a smoother transition to S/H with all the growing roots 😅
@TheOrchidRoom4 жыл бұрын
Oh no! Sometimes you just can't predict what they'll do 😢 Really hope she gets those new roots down into the media quickly! 🤞🤞🤞🤞

Some miltonias and Miltassias do have a purplish rhizome. It is not a fusarium. To bad many people jump right away to conclusion that it is fusarium. You have a very nice collection. Enjoy watching your videos.
@TheOrchidRoom4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! 🙂 I agree, I see so many posts where people panic and get told to throw the orchids away. Feel like if there are clear other symptoms, wait and see, if not it's probably just natural colouration like you say!

Excellent review! I’m amazed by the variety of orchids that you grow. Congrats to Tina!! I’m hoping you give me some advice on growing tolumnias. I generally use organic media because it works for my space. I’ve potted mine in fine bark with seramis/perlite and small amount of moss. In your opinion, is this likely to work? I understand that you generally stick to inorganic with semi hydro but I really would value your opinion! Thanks.
@michaelmccarthy40774 жыл бұрын
There are two things that drive me crazy about Miltonia Sunset. #1) I cannot get it. It sometimes shows up in certain grocery stores on the west coast. On this side of the country, forget it. #2) That hybrid is actually a Milmiltonia (Miltonia Goodale Moir x Milmiltonia Norma MacRae). The blooms of the true Miltonia Sunset always have spotting on the petals and sepals and they are flatter showing the pointed tip, the lip is smaller and it is typically only purple with some white.
@TheOrchidRoom4 жыл бұрын
There are two Sunsets listed on orchidroots, the parentage is missing for Goodale Moir though.... One is the Milmiltonia sunset, which appears to have spotting on the flowers: bluenanta.com/detail/100947860/hybrid/?newgen=493279&tab=sum The other is listed as Miltonia sunset, with no spotting: bluenanta.com/detail/100029185/hybrid/?tab=sum Extremely confusing. Was there initial confusion with the cross that has lead to two entries on orchidroots? Is it a mistake? I didn't know the answers, so I didn't address it in this video in case I drew the wrong conclusion... From the info on orchidroots it appears the Milmiltonia has spotting on the flowers more frequently, unless they have provided incorrect images...

Beautiful blooms! Oh I wish I could grow miltoniopsis 😭. I’m surprised they all grow so well in inorganic through your British winter.. do you have to constantly heat them?
@TheOrchidRoom4 жыл бұрын
I keep the orchid room a bit warmer than the rest of the house, but not with additional heating. It's enclosed and full of lights, so don't have to use a heater with the grow lights heating it 🙂 I shut the door over night to keep the heat in, so min it drops to is 17-18C nights, 23C days. Very important to not let the warm growers below 18C nights for long in LECA I agree 🙂 Think that's underestimated alot. Also the lighting factor definitely helps them keep going. The only orchids I keep on heat mats are my Rhy giganteas, because they live in a colder spare bedroom that doesn't get heated. The rest of the house often drops to 15C days when we aren't home so I used to have to use a little oil filled radiator in the orchid room over winter, or heat mats, or both, to keep them going. But the grow lights replace them apparently 😂
@smallshebear4 жыл бұрын
@@TheOrchidRoom I thought the Miltoniopsis were cooler growers 🤔😅🙈
@TheOrchidRoom4 жыл бұрын
@@smallshebear Mine all live at intermediate to warm 🙂 When I say warm growers, I mean it's important for my phals and Vandas not to drop below 18C semi-hydro. My Miltoniopsis, Phals and Vandas all live in the same room. All my orchids, with the exception of the Masdevallias and Restrepias, live in the orchid room at the temps mentioned. The Miltoniopsis hybrids available commercially are more resilient than the cool growing species, they don't seem to mind it in my setup with self watering systems. Got up to 35C in the summer last year. Technically, the species are mostly cool to cold, with the exception of the roezlii, which is listed as warm growing. So the hybrids that have some of the warmer growing species in will be more home temp happy 🙂

I just love the fragrant Phal. I have 4 of them: Bellina Coerulea, Jadegreen sweet, Sedirea Japonica and Yaphon Oh Mygod. I notice the leaves of your orchids are so beautifully shiny. Is this due to the addition of Si in your fertilizer? Thanks for sharing your gorgeous blooming orchids.
@TheOrchidRoom4 жыл бұрын
Me too! There are so many gorgous fragrant phals out there too! I couldn't really say why the leaves are as shiny, but silicone is supposed to toughen and thicken leaves to make them better conditioned and more pest resistant. And I do use it with every watering. So maybe? It's such a hard thing to identify with these sort of supplements, but my orchids are happy so I just keep going 😂 I did think of trying a controlled test, but it would be a very long term project, and I'm not sure how easy it would be to measure!
