Canon rumours kept me waiting for years with so many fake announcements. While Nikon did a superb pro D500 no reply from Canon so you might as well say Canon apsc is only for the enthusiasts or vloggers etc. They want you to stick to and pay FF prices. They don't seem to get apsc has its purpose even for pro users. If the 24mp Canon R3 was a stacked crop sensor (apsh 1.3x) would have owned it.

The AF on the R6 II is already better than on the z6III. My buddy owned the R6 II and got the z6III when it came out, but returned the Nikon because the AF, while good, was a step back in reliability from the Canon. Also, the dynamic range was 1 stop worse. And even for video, the R6 II beats the z6iii for rolling shutter despite the partially stacked sensor (check out Tony Northrup's video on this). R6 II has no overheating in 4k 24/30 and the 4k 60 is oversampled and super sharp and gives long record times (unlimited essentially in my climate). Hi Simon, this seems to make (mostly) a lot of sense. The original R6 already inherited the at the time rather fresh sensor of the 1DXiii with as most obvious difference a cheaper AA filter. Now the R3 sales is no doubt torn apart by the R1 & R5ii, bringing the R6iii as a mini R3 allows to easily write off their early investments in stacked sensor tech. And it will indeed have easy play with a partially stacked sensor. Additionally I do expect it to switch to the new LP-E6P battery of the R5ii, and it will also enjoy the new grips. Finally getting a CFxB card is great thing, while it stresses my disappointment the R5ii didn't get dual CFxB .. I'm really wondering how much it will hurt not getting the Digic Accelerator .. Based upon this, it's probably likely the R7ii may also get a stacked sensor, CFxB card, new battery .. and presumably also no Digic Accelerator. Being mostly focused on birding, I'm not yet swapping my R5 for the R5ii because depending on the specs adding the R7ii (and keeping the R5 for landscape etc) could be more affordable. When the Digic Accelerator only makes sense for selected sports and postprocessing, but is not required to keep tracking a little bird behind branches, then I'd be ok with that. But when the Digic Accelerator does make a big impact I'd better save up for the R5ii anyways. Really wondering whether (after a firmware update ?) you'd be able to configure images of bird species (instead of bride and groom etc ..) in order to give focus priority to some rare birds you're after instead of focusing on the common birds inside the same flock of birds ;-)

Thanks. If it has the R3 sensor and battery, that would be amazing. And probably frustrating to some potential R5II owners. I'd buy one. It will likely have the R5II battery, though. And some sensor downgrades relative to the R3. Still tempting for a mid-range non-birding amateur like me.

A partially stacked sensor would certainly separate it from the R5 II and R3.
@rumrill50205 ай бұрын
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker Yep. Although I've been reading about issues with low ISO dynamic range and flickering in the Z6III. I don't know enough about sensor tech to know if this is related to the partially stacked design or just that particular sensor. And as an amateur it would probably be meaningless to my usage anyway.

I was hoping the R6 III would try to compete with Sony's 30MP sensor but it doesn't look like they are interested on that. I find 24 stacked or not to not be enough. I was hoping to substitute my R with something of equal sensor quality but faster and better quality of life but I guess I am going to have to end up with an R5 II despite thinking 45MP is way to overkill for what I do. I would love to switch to sony but it is too late for me and I am a fan of canon's speeds.

Feels like Canon and Nikon are punching down the price of stacked sensors. Sony’s A7V hopefully has a 33mp fully stacked sensor, 20fps full RAW with a fast read out speed to really make a statement.

Hey Simon, honestly i couldn't care less for video features pass basic features for hybrid use however i do agree with you on editing from the card. When i am running and gunning i normally pull the card and edit on the fly then put it back into the camera. Unfortunately Lightroom makes it difficult to edit like that so i use camera raw inside of Photoshop for that purpose, no need to create catalogs, collections, liberties, sessions or none of that stupidness i just need to open Photoshop go to open look for the folder and select the images i need to quickly edit Apart from my lightroom and Capture One rant I'd like to see an LCD mode screen like most of the previous canon cameras had. I love the Z6 for that, but for some reason Canon has only put it in the more expensive bodies like the R5, R3 & R1, why i dont know, id really like to see it in tje R6iii. At this point only time will tell.
@LukeChristo5 ай бұрын
Canon need to stop being strategic and just unleash fury. This could cannibalize the R1 but not really because that is so niche. If they want to get back market share, release more of the hybrid lenses and make the R3m2 45mp and $4900. Or they need to come out a 36mp sensor and put that in the R3m2. I use the R3 over my R5 because it's such a joy and the files look better. The bump in MP would just be to appease the masses. Now that would disrupt things.

@@dropshotfandirkk.9384 If you are in the UK there are a few grey importers advertising who can deliver the lens immediately. Do a web search. That’s the route I went when I couldn’t get one through the official UK Canon dealers. It’s a case of balancing availability now against the risk of it not being bought through an “official” channel. The much cheaper price of a grey importer also needs to be taken into account. I’ve had the lens 6 months (so I would by now be half way through Canon’s own warranty), taken thousands of shots, and there has been no problem. It’s a great lens and has become my “go to” for sports photography.

The R6 Mkii should not be confused with the R3; at the advent of the R6 Mkii it was the only mirrorless in the Canon line with cross type autofocus... Something the R3 doesn't have; This is a different processor than any of its predecessors, and it is not scaled down R1... The R1 is superior in many ways... However the R6 Mkii may have been the best Canon autofocusing camera at it's release...

I don'y buy it. There is huge demand for the R5 II world-wide. I see this with preorders. I think there is just a very vocal minority on this one. The R1 on the other hand, it's always been for a very niche market. People were expecting a Z9 like camera.

it's pretty obvious what will happen Sean. Canon will discontinue the R3 since it is 98% of what the R1 offers and at a significant discount. They won't want that eating into R1 sales. They'll re-use the R3 sensor for the R6III, saving money on tooling etc. The faster sensor readout speed of the stacked sensor will improve AF performance too, without having to include the AF AI chip or cross type AF. The cross type AF will trickle down in 4-5 years to the R5III and they'll roll out an improved AF setup to the R1 II. Again, using the same EVF as the R5 makes sense - discontinue the original R5 so that it doesn't eat into R5 II sales. Re-purpose the original R5 EVF to save R&D costs and tooling costs, etc. This improves Canon's bottom line when it comes to manufacturing costs and makes them more efficient, increasingly important in this market which is becoming tighter & tighter due to the rising cost of living crises in nearly every major Western country.

Sounds like Canon desperately trying to catchup again but only rumours which is sad at least announce something competitive. What happened to the old class leading Canon? sure nice to finally get a 4K120 but when it's just a rumour and we already have it on Z6III and the Z8 which will be marketed at probably already around the same price I can get a Z8 GBP £2,669.00. Here is what my local cam store is doing ... Get it now old non stacked R6II instant save @£1,999.00 real price £2,779.00. When you factor in the lenses Canon is too far behind on Nikon especially long tele pf type. It's a shame Canon old days had a superb class leading DO lens with the 400mm@F4 DOII LIS. Now Nikon is killing it with great price stacked cams and pf lenses which are equivalent to that DO lens. Even if Canon did produce new DO (DO are like PF both Fresnel type lenses) lenses you can be sure they will not be affordable.

What all these companies are doing is using a high end camera to divide up tech in cheaper versions, so basically its recycling, easy way to make more money with 1 spectifc tech that already exists. cheaper version means you can buy and they make extra money per tech inside. This is why changing a camera as soon as a new comes out makes zero sense, always make an upgrade every 7 years. ( my view) Anyway a lot want the r3 or r1 so how to we get an r3 or r1 for cheap? well make a cheaper one with cheap materials that's all and keep the tech limited to a certain percentage so most cheaper cameras are just hybrids.
