We did a lot of the same stops this summer but in reverse. We leave Palm Desert in May and head north. We spent 2 months in the Canadian Rockies and it was absolutely spectacular and came back through Nelson in mid august and headed to the Oregon coast. We also camped on the pier at Salmon Harbor and it was pretty crowded but there are some terrific beach campground between there and Florence. Tillicum is a favorite and a stop at the Hilltop café in Waldport for the best hamburger is a must! I avoid the 5 Freeway always and opt for the Hwy 395 for the Sierras. We are mapping our route for Canada again this coming summer and will be exploring Vancouver Island and taking advantage of your videos of all the great areas you've traveled to. Thanks for them and welcome back to the U.S. and the desert.

Love the shot of all the seagulls in the lot near the end. Some day we would love to travel the west coast either or down. We look forward to getting to the desert again this year. On our inaugural visit last year, we met some fantastic people and hope to connect again this year. Your videos inspired us to travel and live the rv lifestyle full-time. Thank you.

Seven Feathers is such a great place to stay! People are always so friendly. Every once in awhile we splurge and pay to stay in their, amazingly well kept campground. Glad you had, relatively uneventful travels, aside from the impatient traveler.

I know that underpass in Marysville very well , the company that I drive for has topped out two trailers there. I had to go down and recover one. Nice drive around Ellis Lake except for the traffic in that area. Take Care and have fun in your travels 😉 !

Thanks for the tour through my memory. I have lived in several areas that you went through. I was raised in Tulelake east of Medford. Then my teen years I lived in Bakersfield and would go out into the desert hunting turtles. Then I worked in Rocklin not far from the Thunder Valley Casino. All of those years we would RV around the areas you went through. Loved seeing snow on Mt. Shasta!!! Happy RVing!!

Hi Ray and Anne, As always we are enjoying your videos. We will be heading south in a couple of weeks from Powell River via Victoria to Port Angeles. Thanks for the tip about vaccinations to board the ferry, we too thought all that was done. We are curious about your entry into California, was there a vehicle inspection or check stop of any kind? Thanks, Suzanne & Peter
@LoveYourRV
@LoveYourRV Жыл бұрын
Yes, most highway entrance points to California have agriculture inspection stations. Sometimes they are manned, other times not. We went through on I5 Sunday, and nobody was even there. Generally, they either just wave you through or quickly ask about the fruits and vegetables you may be carrying and where you bought them. They can search the vehicle but hasn't happened to us. The sheer volume of traffic makes it pretty hard to check everyone, so the odds are low of getting pulled over for an in-depth inspection. Cheers, Ray

@@LoveYourRV OK Thanks for the info, we are concerned about the diesel vehicle being a concern for them.
@LoveYourRV
@LoveYourRV Жыл бұрын
The CA residents have some sort of smog testing, I think as I see ad signs around for smog checks, but haven't heard of visitors having to have that done. The only thing I'd be remotely concerned about is if you have deleted your diesel emissions system. Not likely, but could be pulled over if it was obvious. But IMO a very remote chance given the traffic volumes.

Do you have trouble with mice etc getting into your RV or truck? What works the best?
@LoveYourRV
@LoveYourRV Жыл бұрын
Sometimes over the years, but not a huge issue as we tend to move around a lot. Forest mice and little desert kangaroo rats (which look like a mouse) like to come in the trailer sometimes looking for food. Best thing is to make sure they can't access any food and they usually don't stay around. If they do I trap them. I've blocked off most of the access points but occasionally we get one or two if an area is infested. The truck gets attacked generally by either pack rats or squirrels looking for nesting materials. If in an area where they are a problem, best thing to do is park the truck in an open area not near a bush, open the hood and use lights above and below the engine to discourage them. Rodents like cover hide behind. Cheers, Ray

Do you need snow tires for that pass?
@LoveYourRV
@LoveYourRV Жыл бұрын
Most of the signs I saw said carry chains or have traction tires. Sometimes when it gets bad I think they go with chains only, not sure. There were several long areas before the passes with signs saying chain up area.
@herb7877
@herb7877 Жыл бұрын
Just FYI... at times the "Chains Required" sign is out when the snow has stacked up or is coming down strongly. If you are towing a trailer you have to chain that up as well. A REAL PAIN ! I usually will hole up in Ashland for a day or two and then go over. 95% of the time on dry pavement. If it starts to snow when I'm real close I'll push to get over before the signs go up. Makes a longer day but will not chain the trailer. Too much work and and clearance issues.

I find natural beauty and good friends that I enjoy in all the US states I visit. Great country! Some of the best friends I've made live in CA. There are parts of the state that don't appeal to me like the major urban areas, too busy and crowded fro my taste but I'd never say the whole state is bad. I find it one of the most beautiful states to explore, with such a diverse and rich geography.
