I think I just realized I'm a bee with a minor in being a cricket. Yes, my expectations are way too high so I have piles and when I decluttered my shoes, I pulled out about 32 pairs to donate and out of those 32, there were up 10 really nice pairs that I've never worn that I want to sell on eBay. But now I'm starting to think maybe I shouldn't bother. I have never done eBay before!! Maybe I'm being too much of a perfectionist about the shoes. Argh! Maybe I should just go donate those as well.

Your serendipity story touched a heart string - my late daughter bought a special one of a kind backpack at a market and became friends with the girl who made it. After she passed away the backpack went to an op shop, where it was bought by another girl, who then went home and made a video showing off her op shop finds. In the mean time the girl who made the bag asked me if I still had it, and even called the opshop in the hopes that it was still there. Then a friend of her saw the video on social media, recognised the backpack and was able to connect the maker and the new owner. The cute bag was reunited with its maker, strengthening her special memories of my daughter and on top of that a new friendship was forged. I think my daughter would have absolutely loved the story that unfolded around the bag! 😊❤❤❤

I actually cried during this one. I am so happy you were able to help her with this makeover. So perfect! I hope she is able to find joy in going to her office to work now, and more peace in her life. Serendipitis moment: I was completely broke after 11 months of unemployment and somehow got "recruited" to join a quilting group at my new church. The ladies were so nice, but at one of the meetings on an already emotionally rough day, we were all asked to cut fabric at home to bring to the next meeting. That day I had $400 to my name, and rent was going to be due in a few days at $429. I got into my car after the quilting meeting and just started bawling and sobbing about how I didn't even have enough money to buy a pair of scissors. I sat in the driver's seat of my $400 beater car and burried my face in my hands and heard a "thump" sound. I looked behind me and saw that a pair of scissors had fallen out of somewhere deep inside the driver's seat and landed in the back seat. I burst out laughing and things have been looking better ever since 😁 To this day, I have no idea where those scissors came from. I asked the previous owner if they were hers. They weren't hers, nor did they belong to the owner before her. They may have belonged to the bull rider who owned the car before that owner, but I guess we'll never know 😆

Cass, I cannot even begin to express my appreciation for the help that you gave in this video! I can now officially say that I AM a BEE!!! I had a custom couture wedding gown business, also making custom garments for myself and many clients for over 40 years which I operated in the homes I have lived in. My current home is very small and limited which makes it challenging to manage a workable space and storing the many fabrics I have! The Pandemic put an end to that business. Yet, I still continue to sew my own clothing. Despite my attempts to "de-stash" my fabrics, unused patterns and sewing notions and hauling them off to charity, I AM STILL drowning! I saw myself in Seana today and I became really emotional! Thank You Cass for being so inspiring! Wishing you were here in person to help me! Since you are not, I'll try to work this out and hope to make progress as best as I possibly can 🙂

OK we used to have a sweet dog. She had been passed from home to home and we were hoping to be her forever home. One day though she started to become aggressive to my toddler. We tried training her but nothing worked, and eventually she snapped at my toddler. Being a bigger dog, we realized how dangerous that could be and we decided to rehome her to a child free home. I posted a picture of her online not listing her name or anything about her except her age and that she needed to go to a child free home. A woman messaged me, and asked me "is her name Ava?" Which it was, and I found out that this woman had our dog when she was a puppy and couldn't keep her due to living on a military base where the dog would often escape. But now, she was retired and getting ready to move out of state and she was just wondering what happened to Ava and missing her and she saw the post! When Ava saw her she was so happy and I didn't charge them a rehoming fee or anything, I was just so happy to see Ava happy.

If she finds that the open closet is distracting for her bedroom being a sleep oasis (if she has any cricket tendency) a great way to simplify if visually is the ceiling mounted curtain rods IKEA carries and full length curtains. I used them in the basement at the bottom of my stairs so people coming in the back door didn’t see all the stuff in the shelving unit that was there along with the plumbing coming in and out of the house. It looks so much neater now but the freely gliding curtains pull easily and completely out of the way to give full visibility when needed and quickly and easily pull closed when you don’t want to see it.
@Annie-lv8sn Жыл бұрын
She won't cover the closet. She's a bee and she clearly had it open from before and tolerated it. Now I'm a 100% cricket and did exactly that- a curtain in front of my closet cause my cricket brain can't have it any other way.

I think this has to be one of my favorite organizational videos of all time. First, for what it meant to the homeowner. I loved her response and what it meant to her. It showed that you really took what she liked into consideration. Next, because it wasn’t an over the top budget that most people don’t have. It was realistic and reusing everything she had with just a couple of add ins. Lastly, because of what you said about Home Edit. I think what they do is beautiful and I love clear bins but you’re right, it won’t last that way if it doesn’t suit the organizing style of the homeowner and how they work. Great job! Serendipitous moment. In August 2018, I went to visit my parents in NC from Maine. They moved to NC in 2013. We visited often, but moving as well wasn't really an option. While visiting my Mother mentioned that her rear neighbors had moved, but hadn't yet listed their property. We went and looked at it. And from the moment i walked in i knew I would live there. Called my husband and told him, he laughed. Got home days later and told him we were moving. December 2018 we moved into that house. We sold out home in Maine in 4 days with a 6 week closing. My husband had a Job in NC in November and lived with my folks until the kids and I followed after the closing. The home owner in NC had 2 buyers fall thru and the house was waiting for us. We made the moving expenses money back in sale proceeds as well as a 20% down-payment. My children went from average students to honor roll in their new schools. We were so blessed.

Btw, I love your big heart Cass and beautiful personality that makes everything you try to teach us painless. You’re so amazingly sweet and really have a way of removing so much stress associated with decluttering, and/or organizing. You always keep us grounded and never put expectations that are out of reach, but rather ones that are for todays moms/women! Thanks for keeping it real!❤

I'm a Bee too, so I related to a lot of what happened in the video. However I have been far more brutal with letting go of things I no longer use. I'm 70 and don't want my children to have to deal with it when I die. Plus I live in a 924 square foot house, which is way less house than I used to have. I've noticed that people relate to me like I can take on their projects to fix (darning socks or mending clothes or fixing broken furniture). So I have a new thing I need to do. Say no when I need to say no. If I do their stuff, I can't complete my own projects or finish all my own decluttering. I have had a plan for my craft/office room that is similar to this setup. Seeing it has given me ambition to complete it. I don't know what it will cost but $300 would be a good budget for me as well. Thanks for all that you do Cas, it's very helpful.

OMG... this is me, and after I do organize something I don't want to touch it for fear of messing it up again ugg

I haven't taken the test yet, but I must be the type that needs to see everything because those closed cabinets are stressing me out and it's not even my space!

Without being religious or anything I have a very strong belief in serendipity. I will spin any negative thing into a positive and I love when things happen perfectly without planning. Life is beautiful!

This is just what I needed to let go of things and to remodel my work space. Regarding the end of your video. I was probably 2 years already living in my current home, when we got to meet the wife of my husband’s coworker. After a few minutes of the conversation we found out she grew up in this neighborhood and her best friend use to live in my current home. She immediately contacted her friend to let her know as her father had passed away a couple of months and they made so many memories in my home. A few months after, they came to visit and told so many fun stories. She cried as she remembered her dad when they lived here! It feels so nice that I was able to make someone happy just by letting them come in to home! God is good!

So well done! I’m so grateful for your insights. As a perfectionist, I’ve seen these same traits in my decluttering and organizing, too. But I use Dana’s “better is good” mantra and it stops my brain from spinning. Yay for a fresh start! P.S. I love the shirt and necklace you wore on day 1!

This was SOOOO INSPIRING!!! I totally relate to Seana and the perfectionism and piles. I also am chanting to myself the motto from your podcast: GETMO!!! Amazing job, Cass!!! Thank you for sharing all of this. I’m learning so much and you have made a positive impact in my life. ❤

Such a great video with realistic, real-life results. I crave these types of videos which involve real people and not spending thousands of dollars on an organizing remodel. Although I love watching the home edit, most of us don’t have thousands of dollars to spend organizing a space. Thank you so much for all you do, and the inspiration you provide. I have to tackle my craft closet as it is overrun with lots of good intentions! I am subscribed to your channel. However, I will be visiting it more often than I have been in the past. Thank you again!
