Os rotativos tem algumas peculiaridades quanto a capacidade cúbica comparados aos motores ciclo Otto, 2.6 num Wankel seria algo 5.2 num motor de 4 pistões.
@lazzer408 Жыл бұрын
A 2.6L rotary is equivalent to a 5.2L 4-stroke in rotational displacement. A 5.2L will pump half it's displacement (2.6L) in one rotation. The 2.6L rotary will pump all of it's displacement (2.6L) in one rotation. In both cases, 2.6L is pumped per one crankshaft rotation. It's not difficult to imaging a 5.2L (spinning at >9k) to produce 930HP.

If they had not had the LM accident and the weight of the war (a German car killing 80 French ppl 10 yrs after the war, not good, regardless that it happened bc of an English driver Mike Hawthorn), then Merc would've dominated too with their desmodronic valvetrains.

+6Twisted The FIA introduced new '3.5L' rules for the 1991 World Sportscar Championship which meant a new type of sports-prototype. At the end of the 1991 season, all engines (including Wankel-type engines) were outlawed and, as per Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile's earlier decision, 3.5-litre Formula One engines became the new formula for the 1992 season (An effort from B. Ecclestone to get big manufacturers and their money into his precious F1). In the year 1992, Mazda entered the MXR-01, based on the Jaguar XJR-14 and powered by a Judd unit. The older Group-C cars now had to deal with numerous restrictions, giving the new Group-C+ cars an advantage. Peugeot took the victory over the Toyota TS010. The #2 Peugeot finished third and the (Oreca) Mazdaspeed MXR-01 took 4th place. Places 1 to 4 were all based on the Group-C+ regulations. Although the 787B is an astonishing car, it was made and entered after the organisation published the rule changes in the late 80's. Mazda was using Wankel engines in prototype Group C junior class cars since 1983 (Mazda 717C).

It would be interesting to see how rotaries compare to piston engines in terms of horsepower per litre(quart) of fuel burned. 900 hp requires a certain minimum amount to fuel to be burned because there's a limit to the amount of energy in any fixed amount of fuel. You can get big power by burning the minimum amount of fuel efficiently, or by pumping larger quantities of fuel through the engine quickly. I suspect rotaries tend toward the latter, but it would be fun to see the numbers.

Carpenter well torque shouldn't really influence differences in speed at all right? @Carpenter928 жыл бұрын

Carpenter i think in the event that they could create a reliable and fuel efficient wankel, if would win 9 times out of 10. v8's only distinctive advantage is how studied and researched they are so that the cars can be tailored to them, and the hybrid would hit a peak top speed that would probably be lower than the others. Wankel torque would give it a clear advantage in the pulls and out of the corners, but the v8 might pull ahead in the straights.

Mazda was banned because the FIA wanted to switch to 3.5 litre V10 engines. (like the F1 ones). Then it was polluting and not fuel-efficient. The things developed in the races (like KERS) are usually used for normal street cars. Sorry for the grammar.

Additionally 1991 was NOT the only year rotary engines have taken part in the 24hr of Le Mans as mentioned in the video. They had rotaries in Group C/Junior Group C since 1983 and before that they were racing RX7s in the GT class. Incidentally they were 'banned' well before that race and Mazda always knew it was going to be their swan-song due to the ending of Group C and the introduction of a new formula that didn't include rotaries and was limited in capacity (3.5L, conventional piston engines IIRC).

@Argoon19816 жыл бұрын
Yes they sound good, yes they have very good power ratio for the size but In this day and age being fuel efficient is very important, fuel is very expensive, this engine is not fuel efficient because it doesn't burn all the fuel that goes into the combustion chamber and throws it out the back, that is a serious flaw, this type of engines also burn oil has well, oil that also gets thrown out the back from the exhaust, etc. IMO this kind of engine are pretty much dead and for a good reason.
